  • I've used the blade attachment for the Echo SRM 225 many times over the past couple of years and thought I'd share with you the step-by-step instructions to remove the string trimmer head and install the blade attachment!
If you have questions throw them in the comments and I'll do my best to answer them!

Excellent video. I just bought a SRM225. I want to convert to a blade for now. You don't mention using the green washer in the kit. Another video recommends it, and claims the washer is needed. The shaft of my trimmer head isn't long enough to accommodate the nut and then allow the cotter pin space to find purchase in the hole. How necessary is the green washer?

Thank you. The kit I bought included 3 different bottom plates and was not clear at all which model echo trimmer uses which plate! They expect you to measure the length of the shaft yet it’s buried somewhat. Best I could tell my SRM225 I bought earlier this year has a 42mm shaft. Definitely not longer and not much shorter. So I ended up using the shorter collared plate AND the small collar ring. Seems to fit well. I wish I’d watched your video before I took the string head off. I ended up disassembling mine way more than I needed to!

Put one of these kits on my SRM 225 this afternoon. It was around $50 at Home Depot. Appreciate your excellent tutorial vid that I viewed before doing the attachment. The instructions included options for various other brands so was more complex than how you laid things out. Adds a bit more weight down at the end there! I plan on using it this week at one of my accounts. Will report back with analysis...lol. Cheers!

I have been using the blade on my srm225 and when cutting the scotch brooms growing in high grass I have problems with accumulation of grass in the space between the blade and the blade shield. Since the grass twists also around the long necked upper fixing plate, the machine after a while stops working. After opening it up and cleaning it I can continue working till it happens again.
Installing a new cotter pin every 15 minutes becomes impractical. Is this just a congenital defect of the machine or is there a solution to it? I use also a Stihl with a blade and this does not happen. Any practical solution to the problem ?

I agree with the other commenters: much better than Echo's printed instructions (awful! And hard to find online). I 'saved' this for future use.
One point of order tho': I have Echo's 210 and 225 line trimmers. For some reason I also ended up with two blade kits. Both require that I install the cylindrical washer (comes with the kit) below the bottom flange. When I mistakenly installed the blade without this washer the other day, the blade would not spin.
