Last year, Gateron has launched so many amazing switches... CJs, Box Inks, Cap V2s and on and on. This year... They start it off with a BANG with the new Oil King Linears. I know... the name is stupid. BUT... the switch... it's KING.

I think it is important to also mention the effect of the long spring. It feels snappier, and returns faster than a normal spring. It evens feel "tactile," somehow, due to the higher initial force. Might help increase typing speed.

I feel that what sets apart a clone switch manufacturer is when they evolve from simply taking specs given to them by customers, and start to actually do their own R&D to make their own unique innovations to the switch market. Kailh was probably first to get past this point when they created Choc and BOX switches, but Gateron really seems to have taken well to the specific concerns of the enthusiast community, at least as far as they play to their strengths with linear switches (not to mention that Zeal's new Clickiez uses the Cap switch design as it's base). Outemu seems to also be on the cusp of taking this leap, and we may soon be seeing JWK take their own liberties with switch design beyond just the recolors and materials combinations. I'm really hoping that this will lead to even more exciting times ahead for new switches.

Great to see more concrete numbers being added to switch comparisons! One note, from some recent Gamer's Nexus vids, it seems any time that acoustic measurements are being taken that the device should be placed on a stand or something at a set distance as opposed to being held in hand.

I think the way GN did is the correct way to measure an accurate db reading, but when it comes to the tonality and pitch of the switch, the closer the mic is the better. When closer to the switch tonality and pitch (most likely) drops off/changes over distance. My only critisims for his testing on this part would be that he held the reader in his hand rather than place it on a stand (since vibration and movement of the hand is sure to change the pitch of the reading).

@@JPMedia1 I'm trying to understand the intended tone of your post. The first half makes it sound like you're setting up a refutation of bringing up GN and their methodology with respects measuring sounds from switches.

I bought the Gateron CJ switches based on your review for my Keychron Q1. I love the chattering sound of the switches when typing.

Your reviews were already my first choice above the other keyboard TH-camrs. Now you're using science!? Amazing. I don't know how expensive they are but if you had a force gauge to measure the push force of the springs it would've been the icing on the cake.

Thank you so much jong! Will try to get to more switches to include! I actually do have a bunch of switches I'm testing out, but I usually don't do a review on one unless it stands out for a reason. Glad that these Oil Kings did!

Love your intros lol, they’re fun all the while not being super cringey at all.
I would love to hear a range of pitch tests across every switch you have and perhaps you can even make an ultimate guide on switch pitches! I would love to know if certain switches are actually high pitched or low pitched and I think the test you did will be way more accurate than sound tests on TH-cam, even if your method might not be 200% accurate.

I'll keep using the new methods to keep building more and more info! Hopefully at the end of all this, there is a nice collection of info as comparison!
