    • @chipkyle5428
      @chipkyle5428 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@scottloar Yes, and that's a very interesting fact. thanks. And Sounders "bed down" together during the daylight hours in shallow dirt depressions the individuals root in dense brushy "safe" areas usually dark and covered with briars. And when the pregnant sow prepares to farrow (have her pigs) she'll make a "nest" under a fallen tree top or very dense Yaupon bushes usually covered with briar. She'll carry dead grasses and straw in her mouth to line the depression for as many as a dozen stripped piglets. Amazing animals. Almost perfectly designed. Their weaknesses are poor A/C systems - they need water to cool themselves often. They don't jump as well as other animals. They have fairly good eyesight but don't use their vision well, because they rely so much on their acute hearing and sense of smell. But very smart and cautious. Smart a dogs.

    • @scottloar
      @scottloar ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chipkyle5428 All true. Because swine easily become overheated and their skin sensitive they must cool off, thus the typical image of a pig wallowing in a mudhole. In truth they are no dirtier than most animals in the wild although their poop smells to high heaven, only out-stunk (is that a word?) by humans'.

      The federal government is very concerned. However, most family farms are in red states and Republicans want federal "hands off" federal mandated acts in red states. The feral hogs are found often in great numbers on lands controlled by the federal government. These things are now being found in Canada. It may be partially due to weather getting warmer or genes for long thick hair now recessive in domestic pigs that are being triggered by being free.....or a combination. But you're right they are a nightmare. Pigs are very intelligent, very fecund, adaptable, and they omnivorous and not fussy eaters. A sow can farrow 2 litters a year. If you see any on your land .....try to kill them!

      @@JaimeGarcia-pe7bj I think the reason they are moving further north is because of the Russian boar genetic stock that was introduced.
      The video claimed that Texas has the most, but I think that is probably because Texas looks for them while California tries to pretend there are no wild pig problem in their state. Tx encourages hunting and allows any legal weapon to be used. Ca fought hard to keep restrictions on hunting until they noticed that wild pigs destroy nature as well as farms.

      Well, I don't know about research, but i'm sure we could conclude a few probabilities. There is an impact, but I don't think its enough to notice anything negative. nothing I can think of. If anything, I see a few ecological positives. But many negative problems with humans. I suppose that humans are also part of the ecological though.
      They eat mostly vegetation. They are not an apex predator, but have the potential to be a predator, but I doubt they are good at it. They can't catch deer. Maybe rabbits could be a good pray for them. Rabbits, another invasive species. These hogs can kill all the rabbits they want to.
      I could see a major impact if they introduce the perfect predator for these guys. Its interesting I think. Would need to be big, and fast. Bears might naturally fill that spot. Give enough time, and bears have all they can eat. They are very fast, big enough to kill the biggest bors. Growing bear populations may become another human problem.
      I'm curious about the rate at whiich these bors are evolving intelligence. I think thats very interesting. They breed like crazy, they are already very smart animals. they kill 60% of them every year. Looks like an enviroment for rapid evolution. Give it 200 years, you might have some crazy smart pigs. Only the smart survive sort of situation.
