Mexico City has experienced earthquakes higher than 8, at least peripherally. In 1787, there was at least one quake estimated to be in the neighborhood of 8.6. A similar one today would be worse than 1985.
Its amazing how much those skyscrapers survived. Mainly Torre Latinoamericana. That skyscrapers is almost 70 years old, and it holds so well. I wonder if Torre Mayor would survive 9.0. Also when you mention 1985 earthquake, they for the first time find out, that those skyscrapers are the safest building when earthquake like this happen.
@@EarthquakeSim its amazing what they can survive. I have seen document Build From Disaster and they mention 1985 mexico earthquake. It was so mindblowing when they mentioned that most of low, medium and tall buildings falled, but skyscrapers survived.
@@dragonlukasmapping805 It was mostly buildings between 5-19 stories that collapsed. It all has to do with how the ground resonates in each earthquake. In the 2017 one, the buildings that fell were almost all 3-8 stories, with some exceptions.
For a month now I have been experiencing an earthquake swarm that is affecting my country in southern Italy, and it is not at all pleasant, although the tremors are mild I feel them very distinctly since the epicenters are very close to me, it is not at all pleasant... Anyway nice simulations as always!!!
I ordered a survival kit for 5 people about two weeks ago. Even though Sacramento is not that seismically active, the Bay Area is not that far. And also the earthquakes in the North Coast and Nevada were felt here. You never know one day Mother Nature will throw a curve ball my way! I love your videos. Always enjoyed studying plate tectonics. Keep it going sir .
In the background there's the Latino Tower, that skyscraper resisted many of the strongest earthquakes in the history of Mexico City since it's inauguration in 1956, like the earthquake of 1957 where the independence angel fell, the earthquake of 1985 one of the strongest ones in the history of the city and the 2017 earthquake. There's a legend that says that if in one earthquake the skyscraper falls, it would mean the end of the world.
I am Mexican and I confirm that the earthquakes of 85 and 2017 did leave us with a great indelible mark, thank you for making this video in this great city, I have been waiting for it for a long time. And even our iconic Latin American tower resists more than others. 🇲🇽😎🗿
On behalf of my country, Mexico, this simulator is very offensive since it reminds me of the tragedy of 1985 and 2017, which I invite you not to recreate such offensive scenarios. en nombre de mi pais.mexico es muy ofensivo este simulador ya wue me recuerda a la tragedia de 1985 y 2017 lo cual te invito a no recrear ecenarios tan ofensivos . 😡😀🐦

1985 Mexican Quake lasted for 3 Minutes of Shaking on 9/19/1985 Thursday
I can't imagine how that would feel. I would be terrified.
@CatatonicOne Is terrible 3 minutes is way to much
@stevesibaja3123 I imagine it felt like an eternity.
