Hello, Dave! I really like your scoliosis videos. I am a mother of a 13-year olf girl with (still) mild scoliosis and I truly believe something can be done. I myself have (double) scoliosis and was diagnosed with it also at 13 years old, back in the 80s. I've been reading a lot about scoliosis lately, to see if there have been any breakthoughs, new knowledge, tips, ideas... It seems that scoliosis just happens, it is "written" in our DNA and doesn't come as a result of, say, carrying a heavy backpack or this or that. This is very interesting to me, because I've always blamed myself (and my parents) for it :)
As a teenager I noticed that my pants were shorter on one side, and I always had to roll one hem up a bit. Only later in life I concluded that one leg was shorter. Some say that a leg becomes shorter due to scoliosis (rotation), and not precede it. This makes no sense to me.
I took my daughter to a specialist and I asked her to measure my kid's legs. She measured from the belly button to the bony joint on her ankle. But this is wrong, in my opinion. My daughter's feet are not the same height! One arch is lower than the other. The way I measured her legs was this: I told her to sit on the floor, bend her knees outwards, and put the soles of her feet together, close to the groin area. There is a crease that forms at the hip area. I drew a line through this crease with a marker. Then I told her to stand up and measured the distance between that line and the floor. I believe this is much more accurate, but I'm not a doctor.
I feel that if I put a small pad under the heel of the shorter leg, like the ones you buy at a regular store for a more comfortable walking, that it could slow down the scoliosis.
What do you think about leg length and its relation to scoliosis? Greetings from Croatia.

Leg length is definitely something we have to look at. Like you said, for it proceed the curve or is it caused by the cure....not sure. I will do a video on how to check for leg length. That should help. Thanks for the comment!

I am 60 years old and have had scoliosis since I was probably 8. Wore brace through high school. My curve was 56 degrees when I had surgery and had a Harrington Rod placed in my thoracic spine. Even after surgery it’s still 28 Degrees. My was same side as your wife. Now I have about a 15 degree curve in my lumbar spine going the other way. I’ve have a cage & 2 screws in my C6-7. Just found out my C3-4-5 are bad. Scoliosis Sucks!

Sorry you had to go through all of that. Definitely it is a sucky diagnosis. Hopefully we can improve on the available treatments in the future. Thanks for sharing.

Nothing can fix it, but it can be helped so it doesn't cause pain. I highly recommend Schroth.
