    I loved the Highland Cattle. We saw them last year as we went over Applecross Pass. They were on the road too and seemed to like all the attention from the tourists. I love Skye and seeing you enjoying it so much makes me want to go back right now. Thanks so much for sharing your trip with us. xx

    I think the Scottish Bureau of Tourism should hire you as some sort of ambassador for the country. Two thumbs up from Texas and the photography gods owe you the proper (crackin?) light for the next shoot.

    Elgol is such a dramatic place. Whatever photos you get can't ever replace actually being there. For me, the one thing my photos do is to inspire me to keep going back to Scotland.

    Well done Kim. At your first stop on the road to Elgol there is a lovely waterfall behind the building in the distance. Looking forward to Sligachen. I camped there a year ago and some lovely shots of the bridge and waterfalls and the wee single cottage.

    Kim you just have to hold workshops to be able to afford the accommodation in some of these stunning locations.

    • @kimgrantphotography
      @kimgrantphotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've held workshops in other parts of Scotland before but they didn't sell out so once you add travel and accommodation I was out of pocket. I stick to my local regions now as there's more demand (Skye etc is very over saturated with workshops). I'd love to branch out to other locations again in the future though ☺️

    A great video, Kim. Lots of laughs here, especially with the rainbow ending up in the poor coo. (In Glenlyon, the Highland cows' tongues precede their heads if you leave the windows down..very refreshing.) However, I'm 12,000 miles away and your videos will have me leaving our cows and heading back to Scotia soon; it does get expensive. Looking forward to the next vid.

    Nice one Kim. I've had some great shots from Elgol, but the best have always been 'storm shots' (it's Skye after all). I camped up top on Sgurr na Stri, the mountain in the centre, for dawn shots of the Cuillins, its probably the best viewpoint in the UK. Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip. Regards - John

  • @frauleindaniela

    Great to see you so enthusiastic Kim! Elgol is a super nice spot indeed. But I wonder on what you were waiting for. The snowy mountain was nicely lit at 8:38 and this honeycomb mountain was lit in lovely orange tones in 10:03 with the mountains behind. I don't think it could get any better, do you?
    But since you didn't get the image you wanted I'll guess you have to come back! ;-)

    • @kimgrantphotography
      @kimgrantphotography  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fräulein Daniela I sure will have to go back - thanks! The great thing about photography is that we all see the world around us differently and see opportunities where others don't. Great that you saw dome potential where I didn't ☺

    Such a shame you didn't get the sunset, it was looking so promising. I met the coos 2 years ago at exactly the same spot

    I remember thinking my lungs and calves were going to explode as I walked up the side of the hill in the background on the left of your frame. However it was worth every footstep to fall asleep on the top with a cloud inversion below me. The next day was just as punishing as I walked the entire ridge to finish at the "Slig" pub 19 hours later.
    If you ever go back to Elgol take the boat to the Camasunary Bothy and spend a night there. Not many people go there for one of the best photo ops on the Island.
    You could walk to the Bothy, but you'd have to negotiate the Bad Step. You Scots have a flair for the understatement when naming such obstacles. 😀

    I just Love that place and the road to it. We have a photograph on our wall of Loch Slapin and the Mountain Blaven that we managed to capture many years ago on our Bronica 120 camera. We have captured it since on our DSLR but the light has never looked as good as the first time we saw it. Thanks for another interesting Vlog ;-}

    Hi Kim, Yahoo!! I've finally been to a place you've visited. My wife and I stayed at Coruisk House, you probably passed it on the B8083 . What a beautiful place, not only to stay, but to photograph too. The whole area is out of this world and we'd love to travel there again. No wonder you were so excited on your video. There's so much photography opportunities, it's unbelievable! Some parts of it actually reminded me of the Lake District (have you been there?)

    I can empathise with your enthusiasm... My wife and I visited all over Scotland on holidays for several years... We live in the centre of England and it's so exhilarating when getting to the West coast of Scotland... When coming back home England seems so boring with no mountains to look at every which way... Wonderful as always! I agree with those who noticed lots of other good compositions while you were waiting for sunset. I guess the solution would be to have two body/lens systems so you could set up one for the ideal sunset shot, then use the other for "grab" images while waiting. (Also, do images of Highland cattle qualify as "wildlife photography?")

    Kim I do like your enthusiasm but feel at times you miss out on so many photo opportunities whilst expressing your enthusiasm to your Vlogging camera, mind you it must be frustrating if you set your mind on a particular image and it does not happen. Cannot beat a shot of a Highland Coooow though. I have been twice to the Isle Of Skye both times by coach, but managed some great shots via the coach windows.

    • @kimgrantphotography
      @kimgrantphotography  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Derek Nash I've always said being outside and enjoying it is what matters. The photography is just a bonus ☺ When it came to Elgol I did have a very specific photo in mind but sometimes I do shoot several images. I just react to how I feel on the day. I never put myself under pressure to get images - I personally feel that would take the fun away. The enjoyment must always come first! 😊
