    UG,
    The two-shot blend turned out very nicely, and I agree, light is THE thing.
    Job's a good-un making Elgol your bitch! Those shots are magnificently stunning. Given the choice of the first series, I prefer the wider shot. Gotta say the shot of the Thrift foreground is my pick of the lot, though.
    Thank-You,
    Mike

    I really like that cropped shot from the Fairy Pools you ended up with. Also fun we ended up focusing on the exact same waterfall. I had to check an extra time as I had much more water when I was there :)

    That drone intro was stunning mate. Skye coast looks amazing from the air. Good to see Paul in the video. Also nice VO bits filling in some context to the video. The self critiques work really well over your images. Loving the crop image at 10:15. Great video Adam!!

    Adam ....Skye as I know it is ruined 100% by tourisms and by the ignorance of the tourists

    • @QuietLightPhoto
      @QuietLightPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      Skye was ruined by putting a bridge across to it and not putting in the infrastructure to support tourism. Put public toilets in and people will use them, don't put anything in and people will shit all over the place, same with garbage, campsites and so on. It's one thing to enjoy the tourist $'s but another to put the facilities in place so that tourism doesn't wreck what you've attracted people to come and enjoy. Most of the roads on Skye are single track yet tourism has done nothing to curb the folk who bring large campers over, why not limit the size or limit the amount of cars on the Island. I don't think it's just the tourist who spoil the landscape but some pre planning might have helped. But yes I do agree with you.

  • @AlexBerger
    @AlexBerger 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's nuts. Three years ago, the pools were largely empty with a couple dozen people spread out across the area, max. Was there about when you guys were, and between the new parking lot, the various other path additions, and the hundred+ folks spread out across the valley...have to admit, I never got out of the car, turned around, and went and found some other streams elsewhere on the island. The pools themselves are so intimate, and Scotland itself is so wild - it's a challenge to experience it properly with heavy crowds. Especially with water levels so low because of the summer drought.

    Smashing video again Adam. Glad the light appeared. Round rock shot: I prefer the wider angle close up of the round rock. More focused, simple. The rock and sky aren't competing for attention. However both shots are really lovely. Not sure if you're back.... finally raining here in Vancouver! We need it.

  • @garyives1218

    15:40 At first, I thought I'd have to give it a bit of thought, but after second look I pretty quickly preferred the wider, more open perspective because the "orb" still has a commanding presence in all of it I feel. In the closer up I feel the additional lighting and prioritization of the orb is a bit harsh and does a misjustice to it's truly gorgeous surrounding. Beautiful vid. Thanks again.

  • @roykropp155
    @roykropp155 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Personally, I prefer the uncropped version of the Fairy Pools complex. There is some imbalance in the water, but I think that this is somewhat offset by the spread of the cascade on the left and the slightly off-center placement of the peak. One's eye has more "space" to move and explore this version--left cascade--peak in background--right cascade. In the cropped version, I find the main interests too centered. The eye goes from cascade straight up to the peak and then straight back down. There is less exploring of the image. Sometimes, simplification is not the answer. Very nice photos and discussion as usual. Thanks.

    Sgurr an Fheadain is the pointy hill behind the fairy pools. Sgurr Na Stri is the similar shaped hill looking from Elgol. And if you can be arsed walking the 4 miles each way and across a wide river to get to it, the 1,500ft climb up to the top affords some of the best views in all of Scotland. Thanks again for doing all the dreary editing the make this fine videos.

    The Round Rock.... I was already thinking there was another composition I liked even before you asked the question.. I like the round rock with the craggy backgrounds... and there is a pano crop that eliminates almost all the sky, keeping just the green background cliff on the right at 13:52 and again at about 14:21 the transition slides into what I like best, (although keeping a just a little bit of the cropped bottom line at these points) except in my preferred crop I would want to lighten just a little bit the distant mountains to give just a hint of texture... on my screen they look really black and almost blend into the sky... close to what you have at 15:23... but in the earlier scenes I prefer the relative size of the boulder... thank you for asking P.S. the closing shot of the seaside cottage looks like it would be a great B&B...

    For what my criticism is worth (hah!), the images with the Egg of Elgol both felt a little too tight. I much preferred the image with the flowers because it showed the expansiveness of the area. I could FEEL the distance and the scale much better. That's not to say any of it was bad, it most certainly was better than anything I've produced, but I couldn't help feeling like it was all a bit smooshed.

  • @MattSchulze
    @MattSchulze 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's a tough one, I do like the brighter area of the sky because it mitigates the broodiness of the sky and tells the story of the weather clearing, but the ice age boulder gets a little lost in the wider shot.
    I prefer the prominence that you gave the boulder in the tighter shot but the sky comes off too gloomy, particularly as it was such a nice sunset light. Ah, you just have hop on a plane to go back and get ....

    As a wildlife photographer trying to learn about landscape shooting I appreciate how you go into what didn’t work or what would’ve made a shot better. Details like that are just as helpful as settings and filters used and how to set up the composition.

    Great shots. I actually like both the shot with the white clouds and the closer cropped one without. Thanks for the insights.

    Beautiful photos, great tips and always very good video. So I am thinking (seriously) about signing up for the March 2020 event in Kanab Utah. Since you are slated to be there, very interested in going, mainly to get you to sign my Uncle Grump Ugly Mug. Only hesitant due to Nick is also going and little concern about driving around and possibly have him behind me if I have to make sudden stops!!!! ;-)

    The tighter shot of the egg works best for me with those light conditions. Wider had the light cooperated. U.K. Summers make for very long days, eh? Carry on!
