Being someone who speaks canto at home and grew up learning mandarin, I can totally see how challenging this is! My brain is wired to think in Mandarin when I read characters. I cant even imagine the rewiring I would have to do in order to think in a different way! this is such an awesome challenge and makes me wanna go practice some chinese now :)
I had no idea that the actual usage of words could be different in canto vs mando - i always knew that ping ying was different for a lot of words, and the inflections sounded different to my ear but wow thats a whole new level of complexity...
I still get super nervous before my Mandarin lessons, despite the fact that my tutor is chill. I think it's because of how "out of my depth" I am when it comes to speaking/listening still.

I feel that so much, it’s a weird new feeling to try and read in cantonese. Yes!! Time to 學習

Yahh it’s a whole new world. Like even between my dialect and the standard Cantonese, there are tonal and spelling changes across the same word
