Hey Jacky, I’m so excited when I saw the notification from my phone that your TH-cam was updated!!! 🥳 your last video was uploaded 2 years ago😂 Agree with that surrounding surroundings is important for language learning, I’ve been studying in Russia for nearly 8 months, it’s not easy to get a opportunity to speak English here i think, but I don’t want to give it up(to be honest, long-term view, I thank English is more useful then Russian) 😆so I study it and use it online continuously:) Hope your journey of Chinese learning goes well! Go for it! By the way, it's happy to hear that you agree with the preservation of culture, hope you will teach Chinese to your next generation😂❤

This is super sweet, thanks Colin! Excited to hear that your English (and Russian) studies are going well. Definitely been a while since I’ve posted 😅 but changing that now!

love your channel man, I'm an American and my partner is Taiwanese-American. I hired a tutor from Kaohsiung for online lessons because I really think it's an incredible language and I want to show respect to my in-laws by returning next time as fluent as possible. Thanks for sharing your journey with us!

thanks man! Really appreciate the support. I love that you're trying to learn the language and get more immersed in the culture. Keep me updated on how your language journey goes!

@@Jackyye thanks Jacky, I would've given up months ago if not for my tutor. He gave me the confidence to keep going.

Jacky and Daddio, I am also looking for a Mandarin and Japanese online tutor. Do you have any recommendations? Jacky, thanks for sharing your story with us.

@@joefong5611 I've been using Italki so far and really like it. You get to choose your own tutor and the two that I've used so far (1 for Mandarin, 1 for Cantonese) have been really great. Would highly recommend. Here's a referral link if you're interested: www.italki.com/en/i/ref/f0DBBa?hl=en&

Thank you for sharing how you're trying to maintain your Chinese. ( I will try to check that podcast and tutoring site out, time permitting... haha) I definitely undertand the struggle and it is so hard to maintain that second language if we don't have it around us constantly. :( Forever a struggle.

Forever a struggle for the first-gen kids 😭, and that’s us having grown up in an area with a lot of asian people too. Can’t even imagine how much harder it is in an area without ANY Chinese people/food/culture.

I'm glad to see you post an update video. I speak Mandarin with my parents, and lately I've been trying to take the language more seriously. I'll check out 百靈果新聞. Good luck with your language learning journey!

I'm so happy to stumble upon your video!! Totally relate to this! Since moving away from China a couple of years ago, my Chinese has gotten really rusty. It does take a lot of active effort to maintain a language. My heritage language is cantonese too, but my Cantonese is so much worse than my Mandarin. Really would like to improve my Cantonese sometime (one day!) It's on my to do list for next year! All the best with your Chinese studies!

Thanks for sharing! It's SO hard to retain after moving away and especially so when it's not a big part of our lives in a day-to-day way. Wish you the best of luck with both your Mandarin and your Cantonese journeys. 加油 to us both!

I love that it gives me enough time to still do TH-cam! But no seriously, there's a lot that I like. Maybe I should make a video about it?
