    'IMPORTANT NOTICE"
Hi All Todd is up to his eye balls making lots of great vlogs for when he is in Aus., so I am sending out a bit of a warning for anyone thinking of arriving in Lao now the border is fully open. Lao has been hit with massive fuel shortages which means most fuel stations are closed. I have no idea how long this will last, so would advise anyone that will be coming here to check out the 2 main papers "Laotian times", and "Vientiane times" for update information.

Absolutely agree with you. Laos is a wonderful country with great people, but as a tourist destination, I don't think it will ever reach the heights of Thailand's tourist numbers (a few years ago pre-pandemic). Thailand just offers the best of many worlds, the countryside, the metropolitan city, and beachside resorts among many possibilities. You have a choice between the old ways of life in rural areas and major cities with all the modern amenities a foreigner could want. In 2019, Laos had something like 886 thousand tourists that visited the country. Thailand? Nearly 40 MILLION.

After this video...maybe not so much. Amazing how quickly things change. My friend in VV showed me the small river bungalows on the Nam Lik and they looked lovely. Until I saw they might be somewhere near this mess. Looking forward to seeing your experience on the river hotel. Safe travels and thanks for sharing.

Looks like a lot of fun ! I have to say I have never seen crowds of people sitting at tables, eating and drinking , knee deep in a river ! Keeps them cool in the heat I bet ! I went to Laos in 1992 or 3. Only Vientiane was open to foreigners then and Lowang Prabang (excuse my spelling !) But to get there you had to take a government package tour which was way beyond my budget at the time. Foreigners weren't allowed to go more than 15 km outside of Vientiane at that time. I spent about a week in sleepy (at the time ) Vientiane and headed back to Thailand and on to Vietnam. Great video Todd and am subscribing ! One of the primary reasons Laos hasn’t been deforested is the millions of cluster bombs that still remain after the “ secret war” during the Vietnam war. The US military dropped 260 million cluster bombs. 60-80 million still remain. If you go to Luang Prabang visit the UXO ( unexploded ordinance museum). As a American Marine Corp. veteran it was a disturbing acknowledgment of my country’s actions. We helped rebuild Europe and Japan after WW2. I believe we have a responsibility to correct the wrong that we have done in a country that we were not at war with. Seeing is believing. Sadly we did the same thing in Cambodia. But visit the country, it’s beautiful and so are the people. And the food is delicious.
