Among the many things that were lost in the conversion from Arcade to console, originally Jennifer could be heard saying "Please, kill me", and when that boss fight is over, she says "Thank You" and "Goodbye".
This had such a different vibe than nintendo! This game stopped messing around from the start and stayed that way, really opened my eyes to how expressive video games can be. TG-16 was such a great system too!
In the console version of Splatterhouse, some of it got removed and censored. For example: Rick's mask is red instead of white The church area was censored, so the boss had like an upside down cross, and the floating candles are supposed to be an alter for a place to pray When fighting Jennifer, she says, Please end my life and thank you but that was removed in the console version Some of the blood was censored
The whole "upside down cross" thing being "offensive" and "Satanic" does not hold up to actual theology. It's literally the symbol of St. Peter who asked to be crucified upside down because he was unworthy of emulating Jesus's death. But shee-ple just believe what they're told by "experts" even if they're nothing of the sort.
First time I ever heard of this series was back in a cheat code book for Genesis/SNES made by GamePro Magazine in the 90s. I saw a screenshot of _Splatterhouse 3_ and was like, "Whoa, that guy looks like Jason from Friday the 13th! Wait, do YOU get to be Jason, but he's a good guy? That's AWESOME!". I really wish we'd get a new one after the cliffhanger in the 2010 game 😞
I played this Namco Arcade classic for the first time on my friend's Nintendo Switch with a compilation called NAMCO MUSEUM. Even that playable character gives me the retrospective vibes of Jason Vorhees (FRIDAY THE 13TH) 😹🤘🕹️.
I remember coming home with this from Toy R Us when i was really young. I got the Turbo Grafx With Bonks Adventure and Splatterhouse. The turbos Grafx came packed with Keith Courage.
@@ryanschrafel9576 I guess something really IS wrong with me then. That's the only possible explanation for someone associating Splatterhouse with Duke Nukem before Blood.
Good port, even if it is a bit of a downgrade from the Arcade original. This game pretty much changed Namco's image. Before, their games had a very Disney-esque quality, with bright colors and cute characters, but the moment this game came out in the Arcades in 1988, that changed.
The Japanese version is the best way to play the PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 version. Rick retains his white mask from the arcade original and it retains the crosses.
At least the 2010 remake for PS3/XB 360 gave us a direct port of the arcade version. If you can stomach playing it long enough to unlock the port because the remake itself is a disaster. We should have heeded the warning because now those same stupid decisions are industry standard in the West.
I wish I had this for the real Turbo Grafx16 but man it's very expensive and the game itself too. But now I have this on my Switch on Namco Museum with Splatterhouse
Have you ever looked into flash carts? I have a Turbo Everdrive, and with how expensive Turbo cards can be, it has paid for itself many times over by now.
@@NintendoComplete they made an everdrive card for Turbo Grafx 16? How's that possible but.. other than that, those things can kill your systems or something because it only works for like those consoles that's built in 3 cart slots in one or something. If anything, it's a risk getting it but.. I want the Turbo Grafx 16 mini which that one has Splatterhouse.

Splatterhouse is an excellent port of the arcade classic. If you're a fan of blood and gross squirmy stuff, it's a must-play!
Great ports of arcade games were plentiful on the PC Engine but this is easily one of the best.
Yeah it's great but hard as heck.😬
@@TheBalanceable like most games from that period it sure is.
@@king-of-a-thing Yeah, good times.😏
how long down the line until you get the 3d one

I always loved batting enemies against the back wall and watching them splat. Good times.
As a kid I always thought this was Friday the 13th...I wanted this game badly
I was grateful that they made this available on the Wii shop channel.😅
89 or 90 this popped up in a corner store, always got love for this😁

@@ernestlemmingway1124 I did not know that. Sounds scary.
The red Terror Mask was a North America thing to avoid comparisons with Jason Voorhees

I was one of the lucky kids who not only owned this console, but also I had the CD-ROM console expansion! Good times.
Think I was the only kid in Queens,NY who had this console.
I was such a great fan of Splatterhouse, makes me wish it could be brought back, or at least a game based on it would exist.

many demons and undead were harmed in the making of this video

On behalf of the monsters and zombies who didn't get to be in the game, I would like to say "NOKTERON, NOKTERON, KAI BU DOH!"
This conversion was pretty great for the hardware, but I think it was really hampered by the small ROM size. I wish we got an enhanced Supergrafx port
Every time Rick turned to face a mirror, I heard Duke Nukem say "damn, I'm looking good." Is there something wrong with me?
I heard Caleb from Blood say "Waah! Oh, just me."

Shake it, baby. Can't be saving Jennifer with pee stains.
Extraordinary video.
Punch a knife, and win.
Can you imagine anybody adapting this to the silver screen?

The only Splatterhouse game that I've ever played was Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti for Famicom.
Great playing. Classic fuckin game !!
Thanks! :)
