When I played og ff7, I wasn’t that attached to her. She was cool and all and her death was sad but she was just another party member. Then Remake changed my mind completely, she might be my favorite part about the game.
This scene where Cloud watch Aerith walk ahead and he shed a tear is actually a very meaningful moment for OG players. The first time I saw it I was immediately crushed by emotion and had to stop playing for a little while... Very well made call back they did here because new player can't really get it. Sephiroth being Aerith's first love was actually an early draft of the story while in development ;) Also, Aerith is older than Cloud by one year ;p I think Claudia would have liked her, that's probably why Cloud remembered this memory after spending the day with her.
"today is special" probably meant its because the met each other again. which explains aerith's mystic stare. Theres like another explanation but is rather spoilery and getting deep into the story. Cloud's mom describes aerith more than tifa. Cloud was just trying to be a merc but tifa got him into avalanche and into all sorts of trouble. Aerith fit the description on the line about "when you're being a silly goose" which fit aeriths line about him not being sure about the way back to sector 7 and hed be too embarassed to admit and will just keep on going. As the story progresses, it made me think aerith fit the bill a lot more than tifa. Also the timing of the flashback of when cloud remembers it.
I think it can go either way. Though by that point Claudia already knew Cloud and Tifa had crushes on each other. Not to get into a canon couple debate or whatever cause I hate that shit
Happy your playing! Grew up on the 97 PS1 version and glad they made a remake. They did justice to a classic for current day and happy the new generation can play this masterpiece.

I found your channel playing through FF7 Remake and i’m so excited for you! Once you finish Remake, you HAVE to play the original. So much context that you miss from playing Remake. Its def necessary before you play the sequel!! 👏🏼 FF7 (OG) AND FF7 Remake are def one of my all time favorite games. Absolutely incredible. Characters, combat, story, everything is just perfection.
