Guh, I just love the way Marie plays the Final Lair. Her Christine seems so resolved. Until the Phantom starts threatening Raoul she's very calm, like she knows she has the power in the relationship and the Phantom would never actually hurt her. Then when she says "Angel of music, you deceived me" she's not angry or really even sad, just disappointed in him. Such a unique portrayal. Marie has definitely never gotten the credit she deserves in the Phandom.
I like how he goes in to hit her, realizes who it is, and then doesn't. I know not everyone does cause he would never hurt christine, but that's kinda the point. That anyone else hed have hit (and probably strangled too) but since its christine he just cant
This is the problem I had with the movie adaptation. We never saw the Phantom (Gerald Butler) really struggle with his own humanity at this part in the finale, and it's the one thing the movie gets wrong on so many level. The Phantom was not a symbol of passion and longing desire. He was the symbol of rejection and unrequited love. It was the one thing I was hoping the movie would get right when it came out in 2004 and it broke my heart that it was nothing but glistening eye-candy.
Best "You alone can make my song take flight". That line is the biggest reason why Gary's one of my favorites (3rd favorite behind Hugh Panaro and Ramin Karimloo). I just love the way Gary sings it!
I love how at 9:25 Gary starts running about like the madman the phantom is by trying his best to make Christine look like a happy bride. Especially the little part with the bouquet😂
yep. he totally went in for that second kiss there... it makes me laugh when i see his arms all flailing like that. it's like "christine, how do i hold you...?"
I love Gary's Phantom, he still makes me want to cry after all this time. He has such a beautiful voice! I cried so much when I saw him live, and he still brings tears to my eyes after all these years. Thank you for putting up. (I think some is jealous that you got see them live, and they didn't.)
Gary is wonderful! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for showing this. Gary was an amazing Phantom and one of my top favorites ever. His cry at the end "You alone..." is heartbreaking and haunting.
I was at this exact show. Gary was and is incredible. I think that in developing his own Phantom, Ramin took more cues from Gary than any other previous phantom. They both add a roughness to the character that's fitting
I hate when they make him almost hit her, I've seen that interpretation a few times and it just bothers me. He is forceful, but he never almost hits her (at least in the book).
*sigh* Remember your first time. First phantom I ever saw live. Never gonna forget it (granted I've only ever seen two). Whether he's the best is debatable, but her certainly nails down the raw emotion and sadness of the Phantom. I've always loved how he pauses, as if horrified at almost striking the girl he loves, after "You try-". Never really seen anyone do it quite like that, and it was even more saddening when I saw it live. Over all, he's possibly the most heartbreaking Phantom.
@Melstrife I completely agree! No need for anyone to be jealous though, I've never seen Gary or Beth live unfortunately. I didn't record this, but I am thankful to whoever did so that I can experience how amazing they are! I did however see John as the Phantom two summers ago, and he was incredible. You are incredibly lucky to have seen him :)

Gosh, I love this) Every Phantom makes Final Lair different, but I truly like this one) I`ve never heard about Gary Mauer before, but now I can say that he is amazing! He have absolutely avesome voice Oh, and this Christine is awesome, she sings beatuful and acting tender and deep. Really good!
All phantoms do that... sorry it's been a while since I've seen this one so idk if he does it in some different way but if u mean in general, then that's everyone, not just gary
+Dan Grady A few of them did. Steve Barton, Ramin Karimloo, John Cudia (obviously lol), Gary Maur, Hugh Panaro, Brad Little, and Simon Bowman are a few that I know played both roles.
@r3dscarf I did get to see Gary and Beth live. They were my first Phantom and Christine to see live. The connection between them both was so amazing, there were no words to describe it. It is interesting to see John as Raoul, but its said that all Phantoms start as Raoul before they become Phantoms, and the Raouls are the understudies of Phantoms anyway.
For some reason when john Cudia sings with Christine on the boat I keep thinking hes the Phantom XD JUSTICE!!! but this was before he became a full time Phantom of coarse..
@@jws1948ja if no one ever uploaded bootlegs you would never be able to hear certain actors on stage. I think it’s completely fine to post someone’s performance on youtube, especially if there’s no official recording of them
I love his 'anywhere you go' and 'you alone, can make my song take flight'...Gary Mauer is a beautiful singer , actor, and phantom :)

I dig Gary Mauer, he's got the CRAZY down.
In my opinion he's by far the most underrated phantom ever
Katie Tucker Yeah I've been binging Phantom clips and he stroke a chord with me.

I was thinking about this recently too. Butler’s interpretation didn’t even come close

2:48 his reaction after she sings "In my mind I've already imagined our bodies entwining" was just superb
Best final lair I've seen
17:21. Yep.
I think I broke the button from clicking it too much
When the Phantom keeps on saying 'I love you' to Christine :'(
It's more heartbreaking when Elizabeth Southard is Christine, since they're really married
Katie Tucker 😮 Wow. That's an interesting thought!!! 😱 😁 😉
@@KatieT97 It is, I agree.
I've worked with Gary before. A great person and great singer.
yep. he totally went in for that second kiss there...
it makes me laugh when i see his arms all flailing like that. it's like "christine, how do i hold you...?"
This is the best final lair I've seen yet! Christine knows that the Phantom can't harm her so she's not afraid of him, THE KISS THOUGH!
I love Gary's Phantom, he still makes me want to cry after all this time. He has such a beautiful voice! I cried so much when I saw him live, and he still brings tears to my eyes after all these years. Thank you for putting up.

Just about the best acting I seen from any phantom...so emotional...he is such a sad little panda. Someone gives the phantom a hug already!
Have you seen panaro? Gary is definitely a great phantom but hugh panaro takes the gold for me in... most things when it comes to this.
The way he stopped himself from slapping Christine!!! AHHH BEST FINAL LAIR EVER!
Gary is wonderful! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for showing this. Gary was an amazing Phantom and one of my top favorites ever. His cry at the end "You alone..." is heartbreaking and haunting.
Love that he went right in for the second kiss!
I was at this exact show. Gary was and is incredible. I think that in developing his own Phantom, Ramin took more cues from Gary than any other previous phantom. They both add a roughness to the character that's fitting
I finally found a phantom who says the "make your choice" line in a way I like, I don't know why I've always hated every other interpretation.
In others, it seems a little too forced to me. I'm picky on that part too
Yeah, I noticed that too. He's like the only one who's figured out how to do it right.
I hate when they make him almost hit her, I've seen that interpretation a few times and it just bothers me. He is forceful, but he never almost hits her (at least in the book).
Heartbreaking.
It's the 'I love you!' when Christine runs off at the end that gets me :(

Wow....my two favorite scenes and one of my favorites Phantoms THANK YOU
Absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!!
The best Phantom of all time right here.
I just love how the 2nd kiss is much softer and gentle

Simply perfection - love Gary’s portrayal.
He was my first Phantom. He was marvelous. Saw him with Beth.
He has the most beautiful voice ever

Mannnnn... this Phantom is so good!!!!
I always wondered why they changed the lyrics from "the secret you know of the angel in hell" from "just take her and go before it's too late."
13:52 someone needs to gif Gary going in for that second kiss there
My first Christine! 8D I like her better in this one though than when I saw her live...
Wow! Gary Mauer is amazing!
Wow ! This is the best Phantom i've ever heard from a US Production :)
when he throws the mannequin off the chair lmao. I love mauer's phantom so much
All phantoms do that... sorry it's been a while since I've seen this one so idk if he does it in some different way but if u mean in general, then that's everyone, not just gary
So I see John Cudia is in this as Raoul, I assume Most people who play Raoul become Phantom?
+Dan Grady A few of them did. Steve Barton, Ramin Karimloo, John Cudia (obviously lol), Gary Maur, Hugh Panaro, Brad Little, and Simon Bowman are a few that I know played both roles.
Raouls (nearly) always understudy the Phantom, so a lot of them end up moving into the character eventually.
Gary is amazing! I love you!
Ilove you somuch miss

Great performance!!one of my beloved phantoms!!
Same I was like OMG no Phantom! wait.......oh Gaury great touch

ahhh 17:21 best moment ever, I'm in love with Gary Mauer. Anyone know where I can find other recordings of him??
Raise your hand to the level of your eyes, damn it, does Raoul ever take advice? lol
John John be great for swenny , pippin, and little night music hope he continues to act and sing
his second "i love you" is.... too sad.
My favorite phantom
Nice. :)
For some reason when john Cudia sings with Christine on the boat I keep thinking hes the Phantom XD JUSTICE!!! but this was before he became a full time Phantom of coarse..
What's up with the had movements!?
Talk about a belter lol
John cudia support with Gary mauer ending part
Umm i met her... Her husband is my vocal coach.
My 2 favorite Phantoms ever are Ramin Karimloo and John Cudia. Its fun seeing John as both Roul and Phantom
Ahh jesus christ 12:54. Way to ruin the moment =P
"You try....my patience....." *COUGH*
haha jk
i wanna see some broadway
17:42, keyboard player hit a wrong note:)
I know Gary mauer and john cudia both phantom but john cudia was raoul
Wait a minute......WHO DESLIKED......RAOUL
Gary parece que quer quebrar a orquestra entrando fora do tempo. Tem de haver uma sintonia entre a atuação e a interpretação da música
Stolen pictures.
what does this mean? ive seen it multiple times in comments on poto videos
@@courtroomegg It means it was taken on a phone camera without permission and published on TH-cam at a profit. So distasteful.
