    I got the 2016 Mazda 3 last year.... and omg it blew me away. This is the car for anyone who want their car to look like a Lexus, shift like a dream, and have more bass than Ultra. It's a wonderful decently priced and safe car that looks wayyyy more sporty than other cars in its class. I highly recommend upgrading to the base speakers, tinting the windows and adding black rims. Mine is white and I can't rave about it enough!

    I still have my Mazda 3 after 14 years, no rust very reliable turn key and engine starts all the time, hardly any faults with the car in the 14 years, good work Mazda.

  •  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I was fortunate enough to buy a 2017 just like this one in June 2024 with only 7200 miles on the dash! Best car I have ever driven and I've had Ford, Honda, Cadillac, Lexus, and Mercedes and for the money you can't beat Mazda! In the process of switching all my vehicles to Mazdas, I have 2 Miata's and this Mazda 3.

    I've driven the 2017 Touring Hatchback from Charlotte to Virginia Beach. I have to say, I've been in many cars such as Ford, Honda, and Nissan-but the Mazda 3 Hatch was by far, the most comfortable ride I have ever driven in. The simplified design interior layout, drive handling, and comfort were my biggest things. It's a tough call when it comes to its speed pick up because other vehicles have outmatched but with that being said; it makes up for it in gas consumption. I highly recommend this car to anyone who likes to enjoy their driving on long rides or would like a car that handles very smoothly, especially on those tight curves. Hope this helps!

    Nice review. I just bought the 2017 Mazda3 S GT. I looked at a number of compact hatches and found the 3 the best combination of value, economy, practicality, and driving enjoyment. The price reduction from 2016 also increased the value proposition, and made the decision even easier! One of the vehicles I looked at was the Golf GTI. Although I've always admired the car, it was 40K CAD when comparably equipped! Sorry, not spending that much on a compact car. I don't know what VW is thinking; 40K for a GTI puts it within 2K of a Golf R that has ~50 more horsepower and AWD. A real head-scratcher. Anyway, I love the 3. It's got more than enough power for me. The interior is beautifully done and it feels like a premium vehicle when compared to most of its competitors. Cheers!

    • @svenschwingel8632
      @svenschwingel8632 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Over here in Germany, the average buyer's age for a factory-new GTI is 45. But since the "hot" hatches are much more appealing to the younger customer base, it puts VW (and any other manufacturer, for that matter) in an awkward market position. At 45, men usually care about other stuff than compact performance cars because they usually go for practical aspects and tend to buy SUV/Station Wagons. Which is why the Golf R Mk VII is also available as a station wagon for the first time.

    Really great review. May I suggest that when you are driving the car, you might invest in one of those smaller microphones that people clip to their shirt? That way you can get a little less road noise and your voice is a bit clearer without needing to be a bit louder. Plus it would make the video seem a bit more professional I think.

    Not sure how I feel about the electronic switch for parking brakes...

    • @Teeb2023
      @Teeb2023 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am sure... I hate them. I had a Jaguar S-type for a few years, and it was problematic to say the least. If you inadvertently tried to disengage it too soon after starting the engine, it would fail to disengage, effectively immobilising you, requiring a battery disconnect / reconnect, with all the hassle involved with that; resetting radio codes etc. That, and the loss of the tactile feel of a real brake.

    • @alexm2404
      @alexm2404 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hate them. You need to have something that links you directly with the wheels. Now days everything is electronically assisted. I need them to be mechanical and to feel that is there and I'm in control. There are a few exception, though...

    • @svenschwingel8632
      @svenschwingel8632 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Market analysis shows that sales of the hot hatches aren't nearly as high as we are made to believe. Take Volkawagen, for example. Performance-wise, their Golf GTI and .:R models are very good. But while aimed at the younger customer base, the average age of a guy who buys a new GTI (over here in Germany, that is) is 45 due to excessive pricing for well-equipped models and aftersales service. And at that age, most typical Volkswagen customers care about other stuff in their lifes than performance cars. Family, a house of your own, you name it.
      Bottomline: the hot hatches cost manufacturers money for development that has to be subsidized by sales of volume models. Which is why, if you match engine power and overall equipment like leather seats and stuff, a Golf will cost you up to 8500€ more than a Mazda 3. List price, that is. And there you have your reason why Mazda discontinued the MPS series.
      And in the end: what's keeping an owner from visiting a reputable tuner?

      In the UK the huge insurance costs for under-25's has killed the hot-hatch market. So as Sven has noted, it's 45-year-olds buying them. But by then most 45-year-olds have families, committments etc.

    Back in August, I bought a 2017 Mazda3 SP25GT hatch (that's the 2.5 litre) here in Australia, where, month by month, the 3 is frequently the top selling car in the country, certainly for private buyers. It's fascinating seeing just how much the model range varies between different countries. I think we probably get the best model range of anywhere, except maybe Japan, and more standard features. I love my 3. Nice review by the way.

    • @aidanpapa6565
      @aidanpapa6565 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ChikoPikafull hehe Mazda 3 is bulletproof. Australia spec cars are insanely speced due to the super competitive small car market over here. The features in the Mazda 3 sp25 gt or astina is amazing. I don't have one but know heaps of people in Melbourne with these cars and zero problems. Maybe the mzd system plays up a little but that is it.
      Here in Australia the top selling cars every month is Ute's and big trucks lol. Weird aye

    I tested a gt manual. It had the 18" wheels. It was not loud loud but not quiet on highway. The wheels are way too large it needs 17's or 16's even better and more tire and softer grip. The noise in the cabin is mid band and effects conversation volume needed. That said, it is amazing car to drive. It has serious punch. Ultra low starting torque and shifting is a feather. The problem is the gears are too tall between shifts. It needs a lower final drive. It is clearly obsessed with fuel efficiency, which I couldn't care about. It has no cd player yet does have a bose system. I have retail audio cd's and truly hate having to rip them to 320k size which kills the quality

    I test drove Grand Touring 2.5 4 door with manual. It is such a nice vehicle. I had to get used to the clutch. I've only ever driven older vehicles with a pretty heavy clutch, I almost stalled it a few times. Shifting is excellent, as we all know. My favorite bit about the manual though is that either because of quality, or electronic control, you don't get that whiplash effect when you let off or depress the throttle in first or second gear. It is a smooth transition. If you let off in first in our Corolla... actually just don't. I also think it is the best looking compact hatch this year. I like the Focus a lot too, but I need a break from Ford. I have not had good reliability from several of their vehicles. And the golf would totally be an option if it wasn't so damn ugly. Sorry, it looks like a grandma car.

    Guys please be careful if you buy the manual Mazda SP25 Astina, I got a brand new one last year and I was not happy with the transmission. Changing gears NOT smooth as a new car should be. To make matters worse, on the 3rd gear, the shifter vibrates heavily when I accelerate and you can hear the vibration which ruins the whole driving experience. Mazda confirms this is normal. I have complained to ACCC and Victoria Consumer Affairs. They gave me instructions on how to deal with Mazda from now and will support me in forcing Mazda to fix the issue.

      Sadly, as much as I'd like it, it doesn't really make sense for road use... if you want a diesel-like engine, go for the oïl diluters equipped models or simply change your mind and take it with an auto gearbox.
      The 3's chassis clearly deserves an MPS tune, though, with AWD and similar output to previous generations ones. Anyone wanting more than this 2.0 NA engine on the front wheels alone is totally wrong.

      Nils Breckoff: So 2 things, #1 the Grand Touring and 5-door 2.5T come with the 184hp 2.5 engine and the lightweight driving dynamics added are a major upgrade and kicks better at lower RPM's. #2 and more importantly, The Mazda Speed 3 IS coming! I work for Mazda and talk about this with all my reps on a regular basis. The new Speed 3 will come equipped with the 2.5 Turbo that's found in the new CX-9, it will produce at least 300hp stock but may have an increase depending on what grade fuel you use. It will also have at least 310lbs of torque at about 2000 RPM. oh and the AWD found on the new CX-9 and CX-5. Also with the confirmation of the 2.2L turbo diesel coming this fall to the CX-5, we might just see an addition of that carried to other model!! So, no worries, They ARE coming! Hell, even the new addition of the RX's will be coming down the road with the RX-9, a 540hp non rotary coming by 2020!! They first wanted to make practicality a statement when they took their operation back home to Japan. Now that its taken root, we can expect to see their global racing circuit produce the things that drive them, which is already happening as examples of their newly designed high pressure turbo found in the new CX-9 and the all new predictive AWD in both the CX-9 and CX-5!! So in conclusion.....they are coming!!!

      Jean-Marc Chevalier: Mazda's 2.2L turbo diesel is making its debut in the late 2017 CX-5, already confirmed. That will hopefully trickle down to other models depending on how the CX-5 does.

      That's great, but there needs to be a 2.0/2.5T or 3.0 6cyl Speed 6. Accord and Camry both offer 6's that do 0-60 in 6 seconds or less. The Mazda 6 is a beautiful and superb handling slow car. If it were class-competitive in performance, I'd be behind the wheel of one right now. The second car I ever owned was an '83 RX-7.

    6:16 Autonomous braking is standard in the lower Touring models but in a package for the higher Grand Touring? That doesn't make sense, but, by golly, that's what the press release indicates.
    I wonder if that is a typo, a cut-and-paste error from last year? It seems so: if I use the Mazda website to build a Mazda3 GT without any packages, then Smart City Brake Support is listed a standard feature.

    • @LorenWong626
      @LorenWong626 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Low-speed autonomous braking called "Smart City Brake Support" is standard on Touring trim and up. Higher-speed autonomous braking called "Smart Brake Support" is part of the i-ACTIVSENSE® Package available for the Grand Touring trim.

    • @voodootrois
      @voodootrois 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK separate systems makes sense. The video narration not make this distinction, thanks Loren for clarifying this. I now see in the video this is indicated by the "SBS/SCBS" menu title on the car's display.
      I guess low-speed SCBS uses standard (cheap) video cameras, while high-speed SBS requires the special (expensive) front-facing radar that's also used in the adjusting cruise control.

    • @LorenWong626
      @LorenWong626 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. The narration was confusing.
      According to the Owner's Manual, Smart City Brake Support on the 2017 Mazda3 uses a Forward Sensing Camera and functions between 2 and 18 mph.
      Also per the Owner's Manual, Smart Brake Support uses a radar sensor located in the front grille and the Forward Sensor Camera and functions at speeds over 10 mph.

    • @LorenWong626
      @LorenWong626 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, the Smart Brake Support system on the 2016 Mazda6 and 2016/2016.5 Mazda CX-5 enabled those two vehicles to get a "Superior" Front Crash Prevention rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

      Ty, although the Civic hatchback carries an expressive, aggressive body style-the interior between the Honda and Mazda sets them apart on different spectrums. Mazda simplifies their interior, especially the center console where the screen and command controls are, it nearly resembles higher end brands like BMW or Mercedes. The Civic's interior just seems a bit unenthusiastic, a bit predictable in my opinion…If only it had the Mazda's design.

      paych GeRonimo No but I own a 2006 mazda 3 2.3l. Which has close to the same HP. The speed3 was one of the most powerful fwd hatches at the time when the first gens were released. Im just saying for that price range for them to not boost power and fuel efficiency unless you really want a 3 might as well spend your money on a genesis or charger or anything other.

    • @Lyka-clock
      @Lyka-clock 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The68VeeDub I guess, even though talking something like Charger has little to do with why you purchase a Mazda 3. The other cars in that class do not do better on price with high trim options. You can get a turbo with the Civic but the dreaded cvt is attached to it. I also think there's a big difference with todays 2.5 high compression direct 4 cylinder engines then the 2006 models. If you test drive the 2017, you might be surprised.

    • @darkshadow851

      ... Camaro rs gets better mpg? Uhh, what? Just looking at the specs right now, it claims 26 for highway alone. When I drive conservatively (which is of course, how these numbers are gotten to anyhow), I can easily break 40mpg in my 2014 Mazda 3.
      I'm assuming you're just going for hyperbole, but still.. that's a bit too extreme of an exaggeration.

    I disagree with Chuck about the popularity of 3. The passive reactions to the much changes in competitive dynamics - such as price adjustments and option rearrangements - won't help 3' slow sales. Mazda will need dramatic changes in 3's designs and power delivery to reclaim the King status.

    i dont get the point of a heated steering wheel, most things in these cars now these days make no sense and are unnecessary. to me anyways. im 27. i just want a car that has good fuel economy, good handling and that lasts more than 10 years without major expenses. i dont own a smarphone, never owned one and ll this extra tech in cars is so pointless to me. they need to lower new car prices for people that dont use all of that stuff and will never use all that stuff in cars. or make a cheaper model without it.

    • @TheAndyw77
      @TheAndyw77 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      West Indian Aiyah totally agree with you, but the reason car manufacturers install all these unnecessary gadgets is because most people who constantly buy new cars want these items. I too just want a new car under 20k with above standard mpg and reliability. They can definitely manufacture these vehicles. The sad truth is that they just don't want to since they'd lose money.
