Hello Steve, thanks for the kind words about our Owuru motor. We were thrilled to meet so many people at Eurobike this year and to witness the enthusiasm for the tech. We can't wait to present to all an eMTB with our drive unit, it's just so much fun to ride.
I annually look forward to this segment from Embn at Eurobike to see what new tech is out. It is very interesting, in particular i am looking forward to seeing new gearbox drive motors with belt drive and lower weight, higher density batteries 🤔
Hepha - love and look forward to the, like a ‘dropper post’ raise / lower handlebars for my urban bike as a recipient of neck & back injuries from motorcycle crash. eMTB not so sure, but could be great. We are definitely in the golden age of e-bikes, so good to be alive.
I'm pretty sure the future is some type of gear less electronic CVT. There are many ways to achieve the gearing effect electronically. Far fewer parts, cheaper, lighter, smoother
That Owuru eCVT is basically what Toyota used in their hybrid cars since the Prius (until the recent change to hybrid max powertrains). If done right that should be almost bullet proof.
It's a nice thought but unfortunately looks like the future is increasing complexity and incompatibility. Bikes will become as complex and proprietary as cars
If you meet Claus Fleischer from BOSCH, please ask him what this is all about: The new gearshift and the new range extender don't fit my 1 year old BOSCH, but I can cycle to the dealer and pick up the new Eco+ manually with cable. New Smart+ for Dullis? 😉
thanks for the coverage....so many interesting drive units love your channel, together with sam's bikes and loam wolf the best 3 eMTB channels imo, but for news and tech EMBN is the best one thinking of getting my first eMTB for few months now but not sure if now is the right time... when all this new tech hits the shelves in 1-2 years noone will want to buy the heavy outdated current bikes and I can't spend 6-7k on a new bike every 2-3 years ;o]]
Esteemed company! Thanks for watching :) It's definitely a dilemma of judging when to jump in! You don't want to miss out but don't want to buy just before the next big development! If it's any comfort, e-bike tech is in a really good place right now and given some of the deals available out there in bike shops and from dealers it's a decent time to take the leap!
Great to see continuous innovation, love the gearbox motor combos, the future for sure. Battery tech is what is really holding everything back, time to move past lithium!
i live in Belgium, after some research on tech evolution also different and many possibilities, much of tech evolution in 2025 but only higher segements.
Thanks Steve, top quality video as usually! Who needs shitty tv broadcast when we have quality channel like yours :-) Please, don't stop filming and making videos, keep'em coming...
Right, go back to the Whistle eMTB and have a look at the Bosch CX motor. The plastic surround around the outside is what's missing off these "taped" up Bosch motors, making them look smaller and different! It's just the same motor; this surround just more than likely didn't fit the bike's motor mount, so we'll probably end up seeing these bikes with the one like on Levo's Brose, that plastic thing!
Let them evolve and innovate before being absorbed by big brands or becoming inhouse motors for frame manufacturers. Now is the golden age of e-bikes and won't last much long.
@@embn I do my daughter rides it occasionally otherwise it’s a spare. My main bike is a Trek EXe now which I much prefer but the Merida was a perfect introduction to e-bikes- reasonable money, great spec, rides brilliantly.
The chain on that MGU model was way too big and Heavy.....Pinion MGU is still the combo to beat....and good luck with that.... Pinion has the technology all figured out and the Drive Belt is key for strength and operation!
You can try our Owuru drive unit in Decathlon stores and witness the result yourself, depending on your country, you can book a test-ride 😉 The Btwin LD 920e is equipped with this tech. But we are already working on the next generation for eMTB.
Now the real challenge, a universal battery system (200, 400, 600 and 800W) with the same charger. Better start doing it now than later under pressure from EU.
I watch your vogs hoping you'll give some Information and revues on fully equipped bikes with mudguards lights rack and stand but you never do. I noticed a bike at the end of the vlog hoping you'd pick it out but you guys aren't interested. I don't think this is fair because bikepacking e bikes are something lots of people will be interested in. Please don't ignore this field of e biking. Thanks.
The trouble is, these innovations and advances are great BUT, can the average rider afford the bikes? I thought my Rail 5 was pricey at £4150. I'm sticking with that at 70 for at least another 3 years and then I might need summat with a gyroscope to keep me on it! 🤣
I was gonna say, is this supposed to be a new model :/ as that's the 7k model with 600wh. I actually have the 7k on order at my LBS with the 8150 derailleur and shifter sitting there ready to be installed when it comes in.

Zf probably will launch it's own MGU. This compact design is perfect for a gearbox in paralel shaft

How many gears on an all-mountain e-bike make the most sense, in your opinion? 7, 8, 9?

Too many motors. This leads to way too many and different mounting requirements. This must be fixed. Quite a problem.
And too many brands. The numbers manufactured by each brand is small and it keeps the prices very high.
