Here's a tip for you. Chains have a quick link, when you buy a chain it comes with one that is the same colour as the chain. Buy a grey chain and a gold quick link, the gold quick link helps you find the quick link easier when the chain is dirty, gives you a starting / finishing point for oiling the chain, adds a bit of bling and cheaper than a gold tooth. Then wrap the grey quick link in cling film and out it in your puncture repair kit for road side emergencies.
Yep I do the same 😊Pete
I have bought some black an gold Connex chains, golden quick link included.
Very good chain anyway.
I got a black YBN chain - the quick link it came with was silver.
Yabbutt, the aesthetics do the ocd in my head in....
Maybe I’m autistic, because I can spot the quick link of any chain within a couple seconds from 5 feet away.
GPS works on a received radio signal. Magnet won't effect it. Thanks for the cool product ideas!
I think people are thinking about the grade and barometer sensors. but those should be resistant to magnets too.
I think he’s concerned it has a compass inside…magnets will affect magnetic north 😎
Not only the compass but also the data stored on it. Electrons spins can defer due to magnetic field thus resulting in loss of information. It might be very slow but on the long term there might be a risk of loosing event a part of the firmware..
Magnets seem bad for displays - been a while and tech has changed but I recall leaving swirls on early LCDs with magnets.
The magnetic compass is the only sensor that should be affected by having the magnets close by. I'd like to hear Garmin say it's safe to use before putting my head unit near it. Without the compass working you'll have to be moving before the map and compass can orient themselves correctly.
That tire clearance checker is so freaking geniusssss
One thing they don't tell you about rando bags is that electronics can overheat under that vinyl panel, Super glad someone made a solution! Gonna pick one up soon.
I like that magnetic garmin bag mount, that’s pretty slick.
With 20 rare earth magnets, it could probably double as an emergency repair stand using a highway sign post for those of us with steel frames 😮
Love the Crane bell for my roadie friend. Oilfield shop I worked in a decades ago, with first shipment of bare rare earth magnets at noon, by three, we had three first aid cases.
I got an old single speed/fixed gear last year that had 25mm Gatorskin tires. They were getting worn out so I replaced them with 28mm Gravel Kings, because that's the widest tire the bike shop guy said would fit my bike (though after getting them on, I think I could have gotten away with 30mm). The first thing I noticed was that the Gatorskins were quite a bit "taller" than the Gravel Kings - meaning they stuck out vertically from the rim a lot more. So yeah, tires can be tricky to fit.
That makes sense because the gatorskins are supposed to be more puncture resistant and help avoid pinch flats so the sidewalls and rubber overall is stiffer.
Something like those tire gages that you could just print and cut out to test with your existing wheels would be cool
You should do an interview with Hahn. From what I know of him he sounds like an interesting fellow. I would like to hear how he ended up in Spain. Last I heard he was living in the PNW near Jan Heine.
Modern tech is cool. Computers can now be close to powerful magnets. ❤
That magnet mount is genius. I put a pair of holes and just bolted it to the top of my rando-style bag with a cheap replacement insert, but I wouldn't want to do so with an expensive bag
(tip; you know what's approximately the size and shape of a rando bag, and has a top flap? Cheap soft coolers.
I just installed this exact bell in all matte black on my bike this morning and now I see it here. I’m so glad someone finally solved that problem and even better that it’s the E-NE coming from Crane which I already owned and loved.
I use bar-end shifters, so I'm stoked to get one!
Lol, I'm still riding 23's on one of my road bikes, if you've got smooth roads to ride on, nothing beats them.
Very cool solution to the computer problem - will look into it. Gotta be careful with those magnets around our automatic watches too!
WOW! I think GPS mount would be a great piece for anyone that rides. I'd love to have the tire measuring tool, but what I find when sizing up tires is that the fork is always wider than the seatstays... and quite often the measurement for both is quite different. Thanks for sharing, some great tips that's for sure!
I like the bell, now if they'll make something to make the overtakee(?) remove the earbuds and/or listen!
you kick them off their bike as you pass by, like in Road Rash for the Sega Genesis
Hahn also made (maybe still does) a gauge to tell you if your chainrings will hit the chainstay, or do you need a deeper indent (or longer spindle)? Also the clearance for the pedal end of the crank. You can do that with measurements, or just bolting on the actual crankset you plan to use, but Hahn's tool makes it quick'n'easy. I have two of the tire checkers because I bought an early one, then the v.2 was enough better that I just had to upgrade. I'm a fan.
Agreed…on the tire tester, if tire manufacturers complied to their own dimension numbers it would be great!
Nifty gadgets. Thank you. I have a couple of regular Crane bells. My favorite. The brass models are best because of the way they resonate.
The magnetic GPS mount can be easily replaceable by a topcap mount or even a regular one installed backwards, but it might be usefull for headlights.
... can be preplaced* / useful*
Magnet mount is a clever idea, but I noticed that the Garmin unit was shaking quite a bit. Maybe if it is on a more sturdy bag it would work better. Bell sounds very nice but it seems to be in the way of thumb. Thanks for sharing the cool products.
Problem with mounting that type of bell horizontally is it will be muted slightly when riding in rain. So make sure to tilt it a bit upwards.
1:00 i've been using a superglued velcro to do exactly the same with about 10 cents price tag and several minutes of my time. BTW, it weighs about 2 grams unlike this one. Plus, i'm able to superglue other velcros to... wherever I want.
How about you Velcro your behind to your saddle and keep your ¢10 to yrself. Have you thought about medication?
Back in my day 18mm (yes, 18) 130PSI was normal.
Was that comfortable in terms of road feel
@@bakerk5030 I was young and could handle it. Now, no way. 😅
that's wild, were they fast af? i bet if you hit a tiny pebble you'd wipe out
@@oculed1101 use to go down local mountains, 13KM distance with 800-900 meter drop and I lived. That was about 35 years ago. I'm much more civilized now.
My first bike I ran 20mm at 120psi on rear and 100psi front. Lol never again
i just can't read the bike computer when it is rattling. 😅 1:21
Exactly 😬
I love those bells. I mount on the top of the bar next to the stem however... I can reach the ringer quickly with my thumb, and it's super-stealth there.
Mine gets a lot of use on some popular trails. I have learned that if the people walking in the trail appear to be older folks, they might not hear the bell! It has happened to me a few times, including a woman just yesterday with a dog on a log leash swerving around ahead of me.
In fact, last year a group of older people were walking four-wide, pretty much blocking the whole path. Multiple rings as I got closer.. no response. I was ringing it until 5 feet away, and when I passed the guy on the outside he jumped and yelled Jeeze!! because I had surprised him. So four oldsters together couldn't hear the bell.
That garmin/wahoo mount will affect the navigation readings only in case your navigation device has a magnetic compass.
Thanks, Russ, and I still have a pair of 24mm road tires, not of my choosing, they came with a '90s titanium bike I bought at a great price in the used marketplace. Still, I could buck the larger tire trend and be an alt guy at party pace, whoa, 24s, gnarly, dude. Just tryin' to find my tribe. 😀
That mount is fine but seems a little hard to read when it's bouncing all over the place. I'd just attach it to the stem. The Airtag pocket is nice.
There are lots of instances when mounting it on the stem is not possible. If you've got a particularly short stem and there's no real estate or if you're using a bag with a rando elastic closure that would interfere with it.
I use the Garmin Mtb mount folded backwards over the stem. Out of the way and easy to see.
That would work except when using a randonneur bag when the elastic is pulled over the stem.
Those magnets are definitely going to cause issues with the magnetic compass on your computer. From some quick research it seems like some bike computers have them, but they might only be used when stationary.
Damn…. I think I may be a bike nerd. Because I think all of those are really cool.
Thank you for showing us how the road bike bell would ACTUALLY work on the bike 😊
My new bike bell is a Garmin Edge 1050 🙂
Stonger Magnets will effect an electronic compass no question on that happens with mine but the GPS itself it wont aslong as its calibrated each time its removed and fitted again ( going round in a circle 3 times normally works) Garmin themselves "Oh i dont know" so just be aware of the sats are connected to 3 at each time you’ll be fine for it triangulating m, but just keep it in mind if using stong earth magnetics like that less is more! They will permanently screw up an electronic compass and not a GPS that receives signals
I really like the idea of that bell mount.
GPS mount is cool. Looks like it's sold out and limited to Garmin and certain Wahoo mounts. Hopefully they're working on another production run and include the Wahoo Bolt models V1 and V2 or maybe an adapter.
3:11 GPS works via radio signals, so I don't see how some permanent magnets could cause issues with it. However, I would not be surprised if the compass (magnetometer) was affected, but I don't think that's typically used for navigation in these units. If somebody knows better, please let us know.
My Vittoria 38c Terreno Zero tires are 41mm
lol
@@oculed1101 And my Gravellking EXT 40c are 36mm.
The first one could put on a bag as standard without the magnets, it would attached by rivets. You could have holes in the bag for the mount and a blank plate when the mount is not in use, attach the mount by nuts and bolts.
I have a Trigger bell on 3 brifter bikes. Claris 3x, Sora 3x, GRX 400 it works perfectly in top and bottom position. I see they are a mk6. Meaning it has provenance. I do soft rings or multiple loud ding!
That tire checker is genius. I may try to 3D print one
Thank you. This was worth warning
I have a set of Clement Strada 23c tires mounted and being built on my Storck Special. Yes they are hard and small, but they fit the build and I like em!
You always find the best stuff! Love that magnet - genius!
8:41 I have one of those bells in chrome and it's GREAT with my R7020 brifters. I mounted mine on top of the tape. For my hands (I'm a skinny 180cm) it was easy to get it in a spot that doesn't interfere with top of the bar or in the drop hand positions.
The magnets are indeed strong 1:34 😆 haha
cool tire fitment tool. you can check for pedal strike too (shoe/pedal) strike
I would definitely purchase if it came with a Quadlock compatible mounting system
That tire clearance tool is a really good idea! The only tricky thing is the rim/tire combo is never that precise.
Great video. I like the look of all 3 of these, especially the Tyre checker
Like the magnetic mount, not sure about the bell though!
I used to ride 18mm (700c) on my adventure gravel bike back in the 1980’s and bruise the rim all the time with the average gravel profile of 50mm in size Downunder in New Zealand.
Now my only bike has 3.00” 29” tyres and rim combination for more speed and comfort
imo the best niche bike component is the White Industries Eno Freewheel. Probably more of Zach Gallardo product but I love the quality you get and how well designed it is. I hope that the design gets sold and produced by another company should White ever have to close their doors.
The magnets should not impact GNSS, but if your device has a compass, it WILL destroy it, be careful
Deffo gettin that bell. Well I will when my ACJ is fixed...
Thanks Russ. Interesting vid. The Garmin/Wahoo holder is an excellent product.
That stuff is cool!
Thanks Russ!
I’m waiting for the Bluetooth wireless bell.
Its called the Garmin 1050
The perfect bike bell already exists: canyon bar end bell 🔔
Key West, Florida here!🚴
Such great suggestions/products!
The first product seems cool but aren't magnets terrible for electronics? I feel like that would wreck your Garmin the longer it's attached to it
There's no way any 2.4" mtb tire has the same profile as that 61mm jig--not nearly flat enough. However, great concept and it will give you a better idea than nothing at all.
Also thin that before you can get a hold on this measuring device and spend money on it, you might as well just borrow a wheel with the tire in question on an try to fit it.
Thx for the information, I would love to have the excellent bike bell.
People rode bikes with 23mm tires?? Some still do! I have one for my rear tire on my road bike now, and I am over 230 pounds. Oh, and I am pretty sure Remco Evanepoel road 23 mm old school tubular tires during the Tour.
5:25 "23mm if you can believe people rode bikes with tyres this small"... less of the past tense please!
Also would not ride 23mm tyres anymore as 25s allow me to go down my favorite descent (2km, 5 hairpin bends) without braking. Also would not know what I need 28mms for. Everything wider does not fit my rim brakes anyway. But 23s do still their place in many applications.
Great!
I got fixed gear bike with vintage tubular 21mm tyres 😉
The bell holds for 1 season
What watch are you wearing?
Smart stuff!
Good stuff!
The first one - the magnet doohickey: It's a "Yes!" from me. Possibly even a "Hell yeah!"
The tyre sizing thing... meh. Maybe. But I'm not swapping tyres and wheelsets often enough to justify it.
The third one - the bell. Yeah, I'm out, with an absolute "Hell No." Honestly, just fit the fricken' bell to the bars below the brifters, and positioned so that you can flick it with your thumb while on the hoods. The added advantage of this is that it won't get in the way of your bar bag.
a niteize wraptor barmount fits basically every phone and every bar and is $20. and you can take it anywhere in ten seconds.
if the magnet stuff works for you in a unique setup, cool!
otherwise, there are far cheaper and better solutions.
Would the magnet mount work to attach a Garmin Varia to a saddlebag?
No
23mm HA!, I used to roll 700x18c Conti's on 20mm rims 130psi . Did ALOT of bunny hopping, crappy roads.
I Sti Do Ride a Tire that Small ! @ 120 psi. I dislike snake bite flats!🚴🏜️
Everybody with a 3d printer will be copying these tools.
Agreed! Wouldn't take much to reverse engineer it. I'm surprised companies that make printed items for sale don't also offer the STL file for a fee.
It's a copyright issue, what's to stop somebody downloading the file and printing copies for other people at a cheaper price.
You will find copies on auction sites soon .
@@ebikescrapper3925 they make money off of the initial sale of the STL. And same thing that's stopping someone from not buying any and making the same or something similar to their design.
@@ebikescrapper3925 I'm not advocating for ripping off someone's design and making them for themselves and their buddies.
But companies offering the STL for sale for personal (non commercial use). Could make them additional revenue. If I'm leaving in a couple days for a trip I don't have time to get it shipped but I have magnets, glue and a printer. Can just buy the file, print and assemble and go on my ride with their Garmin mount.
Nothing is perfect, at the end of the day the right thing to do is support their business not rip off their design.
I wish companies would sell .stl files. I would gladly pay
The tire width tool wouldn’t have helped me recently. Just got some RH Rat Trap Pass 26x2.3” 58-559 tires and mounted them on some vintage Saturae x28 MTB rims 3/4 inch wide. RH says they mount at 52mm way below the 58. On my rims they are 47mm almost 1cm less than the label. Does anyone else have this experience. BTW the tires are so good that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to choose another brand.
I like the idea of that bell. I imagine it might have issues if you tried to run it with Campy or L-TWOO brifters since they both have the little thumb trigger.
The warnings about the mount biting were too coy…we need photographic evidence
In Ukraine, we into war, gps almost completely blocked, we need to use paper maps
4:44 rad
Your head probably has a greater effect on the GPS by causing multipath error but with regular accuracy you'd never notice anyway
Finally a bell for drop bars!!! Sick of bike brands only catering to racer bros.
Hey, what kind of Bag is that at 2:11? THANKS :)
Do love the simplicity of the GPS-device mount. Do not love that it only works with a handlebar bag as I would not want to be caught dead with a bag on my handlebar😉. Also love the statement "we are in 2024" and while the statement is made you see a photo of a bike with 1970s-style brake levers.
The magnetic mount is exactly what I need. I was unable to locate it online. It seems Rossman Cycles is no longer in business, in Seattle at least, and the German website listed the mount only for Wahoo, and was sold out. Any tips on locating this great device?
It fits BOTH garmin and wahoo. I was using a garmin with it in the video.
23mm is The Hard Life
Lol still have a bike with 23s
Hi from Philippines..im so inspired in your bike expirements thats why im asking if Shimano slxm7100 cage fits on slx m7000 cage..cause im planning not to buy the whole m7100 rd instead im gonna buy only the cage... i hope this question got ur attention..tnx
€49 is a ridiculous price for a bag magnet
Seen what magnets cost these days?
You can harvest those same rare earth magnets from the hard drives of old computers. They’re incredibly strong; I took the paint off my refrigerator trying to remove one!
What the heck is 650b?
27.5"
GPS does not depend on Earth's magnetic field... your GPS device should be just fine.
I bought a bar end 🔔 for my dropbar. Brand name never2far. 20 euro +shipping
I like the tire gauge tool...needs to be updated for 29" though...
700c = 29
@@PathLessPedaledTV I thought 700c is 28”?
@@chrisbenten9971 they’re all the same.
29" is a fat 700c
Supple sighhh dahhhnnnnn bbbyyy!!!
