2014 Mercedes-Benz E250 BlueTEC First Drive Review

  • ( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-250 BlueTEC is a surprising car. Not because it is powered by a diesel engine, Mercedes-Benz has been building and selling diesel powered cars since 1936 but because the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-250 BlueTEC is powered by a 2.1L twin turbo charged inline 4 cylinder diesel engine. That's a pretty small engine for such a big automobile. So how does the new 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-250 BlueTEC drive? In another fun and informative TFLcar first drive review Roman travels to Portland, Oregon to test drive the newest diesel car from Stuttgart.

I would like reviewers to stop measuring everything in terms of sportiness and driver feedback. Do it when it's relevant on a car with sporty pretensions, not on a diesel Mercedes.

The E250 bluetec turbo diesel literally takes off on the V6 and the fuel economy holy shit it's really and truly efficient I drove on a full tank literally all day the needle didn't move

Almost... I can spot several small differences here compared to a C-class.
The biggest selling point for this model is 35+mpg highway even with 4matic. In Canada where diesel is cheaper than 87 octane & nasty winters happen 1/4 of the year, it is a big plus.

I'm glad you enjoyed our Oregon weather, it's sunny from July to the end of September. Unfortunately the rest of the year it rains almost every day. We have some great roads here, and it's amazingly beautiful. Many manufacturers have press events here, so you will probably be back in the future. Visit Portland, it's a fun place. Great beer & food.

I appreciate the sacrifices you make to bring us these videos. Being feted by the manufacturer and driving around in desirable cars can be such a drag. ;-)

I don't understand why that autonomous system can disengage at high speed when hands are off the wheel. If you were not paying attention enough to grab the wheel, what happens? The car stops steering and you might leave the lane or go off the road? The car slams on the brakes?

6'2" in the drivers seat and 6'2" in the back seat? What are the chances? If you judge the E-Class by the legroom in the back while looking to buy one, I suggest you jump right to the S-Class Long Version, BMW 7 Series or Audi A8 L...

Note that Roman is 6'2'', the average American is 5'10, and the average German is 5'11.5'' most countries are around 5'8'' or less so it's not like everyone is Roman's height.

It's not like all diesels all crazy expensive, the base model gl-class is a diesel, and the GLK is only 1.5k more, 9/10 of a sec 0-60 slower but the engine is 1.4 liters smaller and it gets 24 city 34 hwy, the GLK gas gets only 24 highway. The E-Class used to be cheaper as a diesel, if I recall correctly.

The E Class is my favorite car. I love the current W212 Facelift. It's modern, bold, yet really modest looking. I agree the interior is a little dated, though I actually like it to an extent.
Seeing as this, being the E250, is the entry level model, there are going to be some things that are more attractive in the more pricier areas.
Of course, the E350 is the standard model with a 3.5 V6, while the E400, which replaced the E550 (due to low sales), has a twin turbo 3.0 V6.
Then you have your E63 AMG S Model.
Mercedes is planning on unveiling the W213 E Class, perhaps by the end of this year, and then debuting it early next year, in which it would go on sale as a 2017 model. We'll see the return of Inline 6 engines, and the E63 will swap the 5.5 V8 for the new 4.0 V8, which is currently being used in the AMG GT and W205 C63.

    • @TylerF35A
      @TylerF35A 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

***** Of course the 5 Series is shit! That's why the E Class continues to ruin it ;) Continues to win awards, is preferred over the 5 Series, looks better, is more powerful, is more prestigious, and is simply better.
So whine away, BMW Fan Girl :P

+BMW THE BEST! Yawn! Dream on, BMW Fan Girl :D
Now, we're about to reveal the W213! The W213 is the most technologically advanced production car to even come out of Germany.
Along with it is the next E63 AMG. The prototype has been destroying the Nurburgring! Now, we all know that the W212F E63 was an absolute M5 smasher, but this one they're making will probably render the M5 totally and utterly boring, as well as irrelevant. I've been in a 5 and an E63! The 5 Series was the biggest waste of my time ever! Such a boring, unexciting car! Shit interior, shit styling, shit engine. At least the horn worked!
Yuck! No thanks! MB? Yes! ///AMG? Absolutely! Audi? Of Course! Porsche? You Bet! BMW? Fuck Off!
Now don't cry, just because someone talks shit about your cars. Just because they aren't cool anymore doesn't mean you can't still be a fan!
There are plenty of Ford Crown Victoria fans you can hang out with! Actually, they'd probably whoop your ass too!

it hits the brakes. there is a lot of sensors that make it possible and very rainy and snowy conditions will make it not work. also you don't want to encourage people to sleep at the wheel or generally be inatentive only giving you a couple seconds without your hands on the wheel keeps you from distracted driving and keeps you looking at the road.

Diesel also makes more sense than putting a V6/thirsty V8 in a luxobarge because no one is racing cars the size of S550 and BMW7... They need the torque of the diesel to move the 5000 pounds of car, cargo and passenger.

  • @stephenhendricks6790

no double taxing. corporate taxes are based on income AFTER expenses, and payroll is an expense. so the owner pays tax on the salary he takes, and on the remaining profit AFTER he's removed the salary. you only really pay a "double tax" when you use the take-home money to buy stuff - then you pay the sales tax. so that's sort of a stacking of taxes. but corporate & payroll taxes are NOT doubled.

64k includes a tax shield for the owners. Businesses and rich people will buy this because they can write the car off as a business expense and reduce their taxes. Their real cost is 35-40k because rest of the money would have gone to IRS. People with jobs will buy this used for 25-35k after two years. Maintenance cost is also written off as a business expense. Most companies will buy a service contract and write off the whole thing.

I imagine they disable the functionality for liability reasons. Sure it sounds more dangerous to just shut the system down and let the car drift, but the fact of the matter is you're supposed to be driving the car. If for some reason you're no longer capable of driving, it's still your responsibility to stop driving the car.
