    #16 I quit caring what other people think of me and/or my ways a.k.a. idiosyncrasies. But that came with age of 60.

      The peace of quitting this particular thing is intoxicating. Today, dressed for fishing up at Benoit Bay I got a genuine compliment from my son because I quit caring what other people think and was rewarded by my son.

      @@franklinhopkinsjr1065 I am a few months from 60 yoa and wonder why it took us so many decades to let go of being concerned with what others thought. Maybe our parents' parents' society imparted this?

    I used to struggle with the clean home until I saw a quote and it completely changed my view, the quote: a home should be clean enough to be healthy, but messy enough to have been lived in. We were constantly tidying after our kids to keep the house looking like a show home as opposed to our home. Ps thank you for the videos, I've stubbled across your channel and really like the videos and the formats.

      I don’t like housework, though it’s necessary. So, I clean 1 thing per day outside of my usual tasks which are floor, and loading and emptying the dishwasher . Today was the living room fan.

    When I stopped junk food (chips, etc.) I HAD to have an alternative, so I eat either air-popped popcorn or raw nuts in place of chips, etc. I still get the salty flavor and crunch, but it is much healthier.

    I don't go to grocery stores anymore. It's prefer to take this time for me. I prefer to create a list and ask for delivery. No parking lot, no highway, no road rage, no cashier, no pit stop before getting on the formula one highway. LOL I just prioritize what is important for me. What is pointless is going to be no.

    Putting a time limit on my research/comparisons helps me avoid time sucks and analysis paralysis. For example, when I homeschooled 3 kids K-12 sometimes a curriculum in a particular subject wasn't working for a specific kid and I needed to replace or supplement it. It's easy to get sucked in exploring every possibility that exists, but instead I gave myself a certain amount of time (I can choose hours, days, weeks, months, or whatever) to do the research/comparisons and when the time's up, I choose from only the things I actually had time to look into. Prices, products, services, approaches, techniques, systems, etc. can all be compared this way.
    Goals and actions that help me reach them can be thought of in terms of whole and parts. Generally speaking, destinations, philosophies, motivations, and such can be though of as the whole, while techniques, actions, schedules, practices, tasks, routes, modes, priorities, and the like can be thought of as parts. The parts make up the whole. For example, getting in shape is the whole that is made up of parts like nutrition, portion control, and exercise. So when you're stuck it can sometimes helps to analyze what you need to focus more on, specific parts or a clearer whole.

    I agree with limiting the people that can call you, very little social media and actually taking a step back from constantly learning all the time or working. When I was working for 7 days a week every week for like 6 months I realized I was making pretty good money, but basically was a recluse who ignored friends, family and even my own health. Some of these productivity gurus on here act like working all the time is good, but seriously I look at a lot of these folks and they seem like they don't have any life at all outside their media they create. Taking time to destress and enjoy life should be on everyones list at some point during the week

    I am a 55 yo woman who always tries to save money by doing part of the work, before workman get here. Mostly moving furniture and light demo, like flooring removal. We just got new carpet. I did move the furniture myself, but this time I decided I’m not doing carpet removal because it would take me extra days to do. Then I would have to haul it away and pay somewhere to take it, because you can’t throw it in the trash. I asked the carpet company to give me a breakdown of how much the removal and take away was and it came out to $175, 😊which to me was worth having the work done by them for pay.

    I agree about most of your points, I disagree on going into a conversation and telling the person 'I'm wrong' imediately or telling yourself that you're wrong all the time! How is that good for your self confidence? If you can't take yourself seriously, then how are other people going to? I'm not a big fan of 'I'm always right' either, but you can have your opinions and be open to other people's opinions without crashing your self worth to the ground! But hey 'I could be wrong' 😁

    Many interesting points and I definitely agree with some. The second tip ("Stop saying yes") doesn't really resonate with me however. I have found that life offers super-interesting paths and experiences if you allow yourself to be spontaneous and say "yes" on the spot without giving too much thought to it or checking your calendar. At least in my case, saying "yes" has blessed me with fantastic friends, unique experiences and overall a much richer life. So my advice: manage your time of course, but make sure you still allow yourself to be spontaneous ... and say 'yes' more often than you say 'no' or 'maybe' 🙂

    • @eckehareckbert2731
      @eckehareckbert2731 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Agree on this. Sometimes always saying NO is selfishness coz sometimes u need to learn human adaptation or adjustment, or sometimes it may not be valuable or significant to u but it is for other people and bringing joy to other people. If u feel bad of what is to come, then say NO

    • @pamw47798
      @pamw47798 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Indeed. This channel is a handbook on selfishness but I'm guessing that will hit him when his kids get older. I hope. There's a balance that's sometimes hard to achieve but I have found living according to : "do nothing out of selfish ambition but in humility, value others above yourselves" to be more fulfilling.

    • @virocman
      @virocman 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Totally agree. Saying 'no' has been the default for me for most of my life, so learning to say 'yes' instead has helped me leave my comfort zone and have some of those positive experiences you've mentioned. However, I also know people who say 'yes' to everything, and find their life just absolutely filled with projects they're constantly working on for other people, and learning when to say 'no' would make a pretty big difference for them in having more time for things that are important to them. Seems like everything in the world requires a balance.

    The "saying no" thing just to give you time to think is my husband default mode and I can tell it's the worst to be on the receiving end of. I can never plan anything or get anything started when I need to and then when he gets back to me I've mooved on to something else and he gets frustrated cause he actually wanted to participate in wathever I asked about. If you need time to think it through juste say that. Don't say no and then expect people to still be available after you've taken your sweet time to get back at them. (I know I seem bitter but dont worry, husband and I have found a workaround. I still think it's rude and selfish to just do to everyone.)

    I always love your videos, Gabe. Systems over goals resonated with me. My only gripe: Grammarly. I know it's your sponsor, but as a grammar and literature teacher, I'd like to puke on Grammarly. These aren't skills that are foreign to any of us. We learned them in school. We have just lost the practice in using them and have allowed ourselves to buy into the myth that we can't learn to spell or to apply the rules of our own language. It's no different than learning anything else. It takes effort. Grammarly isn't making us bette writers; it's convincing us that we're something we aren't.

    So watching videos is bad ??? But you create this video for people who are looking for the same thing?

      Most of the videos are basically not meant to be seen. I 'LISTEN' to most of the videos,while cooking,making bed ,doing dishes and gardening.

      Was looking for this comment. I think it's about moderation and balance at the end of the day.

    You have some quality content but this video is a prime example of one annoyance I could mention: the number of "like" as a filler word is insanely high. I would highly encourage Gabe to count it. I know it's more and more common and perhaps native English speakers don't even recognize it; however I am not a native and probably this is why it sounds very annoying to me, I just notice at every single mention.

    It would be WAY more brave if Gabe only wears like yellow clothes.
    Now he’s just looking like a guy who enjoy rock’n’roll-lifestyle (which is very nice, but totally different from all these life tips❤

    Hi Gabe, I could not quite figure out how to change from PCS to Mint Mobile. Who do you suggest for auto insurance for a 2005 Nissan Xterra? Thanks for all you do!

    It's kind of contradictory of you to say that you used to spend a lot of money on unnecessary amazon shopping while at the same time being extremely frugal..
