    Hi I went to do this on my 95 Chevy C1500 5.7L today but could not get the rotor off, she's super stuck on there. Any ideas for getting it off without damaging anything in the process? Thanks for the vid.

      Carefully Hammer it off into the side of the plastic with a wood chisel or knife closer to the side that will have the metal shim thing and just pry or pull after

    How would you know your cap and rotor are bad versus the entire distributor?

    • @3rdGenGuy
      @3rdGenGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ignition would still be spotty. like timing randomly moving around
      miss fires
      you can look on thirdgen.org for ways to test distributors.

    I need some help big time.
    Long read but you will get details.
    1989 Camaro IROC-Z with the 305 TBI.
    I had a misfire in one or more of the cylinders. I found three of my spark plug wires were burned, ripped and literally pieces of s***. So here is what I did
    Installed new cap and rotor from Standard, noticed my rotor was pointing at #4. Applied spark plug wires incorrectly and never started. I thought I flooded the engine. Pulled the plugs, only a tad bit of fuel was on the plugs so it wasn’t bad, but cleaned them anyways. I left throttle body open all night so fuel can evaporate. Tried again the evening, nothing. Starter fluid didn’t even help but it did ignite a small fire. I then tested the E3 spark plugs and had spark, but faint. Swapped those babies out with AC Delco but cylinder 5 was an absolute pain in the ass because the headers were blocking and rubbing on the wire boot. Exchanged those for Accel shortys, and bam. Easy fix. Still doesn’t start…
    I opened up the distri cap and see my rotor is now facing #3. Plenty of battery power and fuel, but this thing will NOT start. I have no idea what this could be. Someone has mentioned my timing is now off, but I never pulled the whole distributor out. Any help will do.

    • @3rdGenGuy
      @3rdGenGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      my guess is you mixed up the plug wires or rotor somehow.
      it's easy to accidently do.

      @@3rdGenGuy thanks for the reply and answer.
      turns out I did just that, you are right. The timing was off. I had to to get the harmonic balancer to get zero and make the rotor get to TDC. Then rewire it. Turns out I was off by one terminal all the way around. I’ve been starting it every morning to burn off at fuel that was sitting for a while.

    Hey I did the cap and rotor on my 87 350 tbi motor and I didn't clean it with a wire brush like you did could that cause the truck not to run might be a dumb question but I'm running out idea and can't figure out why it ran before I did it but not after

      Smog pumps don't rob horsepower. however they look ugly and take up space and weight about 15lbs. it's up to you if you want to remove it or not

      just swapping 1 wire will make the engine misfire.
