Aw what a poor little baby, im glad she was able to be saved. Thank you for all you do. Im sorry to hear about your mum. I lost my mum in December. You however habe such an amazing legacy, god bless you and everyone who helps you. You truly are earth angels 😇 ❤
What a lovely MOP! I wish that every time you needed it, you would have a compassionate, alert helper like her. All the flying fox babies are adorable, but IMO the black ones are up an extra notch on that scale. Thank goodness she is in good hands now. Good wishes to your mom and dad. I know they are wonderful because you’re you.
She may very well be an independent little girl at this age, try to self wean and not want a bottle, so she may go onto fruit early with a protein supplement and yoghurt, but she may also turn into a total snugglebunny and a sooky lala and be desperate for physical company and tactile love (stroking, grooming, petting and just hanging on her new humum). Blacks grow up faster than Greys; she's had 6-7 weeks of life with her mum, so she will decide if she needs loving or just feeding and having the humum be at a distance.
The only thing left in my life that brings me happiness is watching these little babies rescued from certain death and given a fighting chance to survive and thrive. Thank you for your commitment and certainly also your sacrifice., and indirectly bringing a very lonely person something to look forward to each day. To that, you have saved at least one human life without even knowing it.
Who'd thought Billi Maree would be so jealous and possessive. But when you're Harlow cute, even though Billi only heard and smelled her. I hope your mom is good and hope your parents stop rotating sickness. Blessings to them both. 🦇
Billi Maree has been very possessive right from the start, so Lillibet was moved to another carer a few days after she arrived in Seamorn's care. You have to remember that BM didn't know her mum except from in utero, because she was born by caesarean and mum was euthanased, so she has only know Maggie, me, and Seamorn as her parents and when she was with me, her eyes hadn't opened. I can cope with them rotating sickness issues, but I can't cope with them doing it at the same time.
I am re-watching this beautiful rescue of Harlow, bless her heart!!🦇🤗💕 Thank you Meg for everything you do for Bats who are in trouble. I hope your Mum is doing okay in O5/2024, I know you miss your Dad.😓💓
So very sorry about her Mumbat😓💔 What a wonderful MOP who contacted you to rescue Harlow & really helped out👍 Harlow is such a precious girl!!🤗🦇💕 I hope your Mum is feeling better too!!🥺💕
Harlow is a darling little black flying fox. Too bad you could not keep her, but sounds like she has a loving human mum with black FF sibling. Hope both your own mum is getting sorted well.
At the moment my life is too unstable to care for pups, so I was happy to move her along. She was also too big for my place in its current configuration; I'd need to stop making teats and set up an airer in the space.

Nah, I was messaging you yesterday and this rescue was 3 days ago now. I like figuring out how to get my bat. If you like tricky rescues, search in the YT search bar for Megabattie/Tarbi, Megabattie/C3PO, Megabattie/Tarzanna, Megabattie/Polly Wolly Doodle, Megabattie/Bruce TV aerial. I think my very best rescue was one where I accidentally deleted the footage. I commandeered a guy at a heavy machinery sales place (with his boss's permission) to do my bidding. We got a tray truck and a huge A frame ladder from the stationery warehouse opposite, and the guy parked the truck under the bat who was on barbed wire between the electricity pylons, and they held the ladder on the back of the truck, and I climbed and couldn't quite reach, so I used the arm of my cutters and dragged the barbed wire down where I could reach it. The guy climbed up on the ladder behind me and held my legs so I was better balanced, and I cut the wire to let the bat swing down to where it was closer to the ground. Easy peasy.
Meg, so very sorry to hear about your mum.Sending prayers your way. Here's to a speedy recovery! Thank God you were able to be little Harlows' angel. By the way, awesome name love it! Nora,USA💜🐾❤️

They don't do nice close up at home; it seems it doesn't deal well with contrast or close, and are heaps better in bright outside light. I'm hoping the new pair(s) will be better. The thing is, I am concentrating on the bat, not the videography. I have to ditch so much footage because it's not good enough or not framed well enough. I'm thinking about a frame for my triage trolley to hold my phone because that gives really good inside footage, but it's a work in progress and I'm a bit swamped at the moment.
Harlow, has had a couple of epically bad days, and she has a lot to tell you about it. It was funny to hear little Billi Maree had a big tantrum about her presence, and her need for some of Seamorn’s attention, I can almost see it. I love that you had a little cuddle and sleep with her when she was crying out her woes. I’m sorry your Mum is poorly, and glad it is not too serious, and is getting sorted out. It is difficult when all your time gets eaten up by various things beyond your control.🥂🖤🇨🇦
I'm OK Tamarra, but I have family commitments for the next few weeks and may be randomly unavailable without notice. Family first, bats second, Meg next, YT last... it's how it has to be for a bit.
My mom frequently has healthy issues, it's the kind of thing that gives us a good scary, even if it's not serious. Just one tip: centuries away, pink used to be a male color; there are even paintings with men wearing it. According to all the online sources, that pink is girly/blue is male started at the 50s, thanks to commercial campaigns, unfortunately. So little Billy Marie is possessive, uh?
Yes, I know that Pink used to be a male colour (who'd have known it?) but it helps if I have a lot of bats to colour code the boys and girls so at a glance I can see what I have in the incubator, specially when I have a lot of new little ones. Yes Billi Maree was taken on a tour of the apartment after Harlow left, to make sure there was no evidence left of the interloper. She is apparently back to her normal self now. She's going to minicreche this weekend. I'll drive her down.
How many recue/caregivers are available to you? And are there other care/rescue networks in the city? Miss Harlow looked very pretty on the lavender bunny. Grow up well.
There are lots of carers in Sydney but as with most things, I only work with the people who have the same general ethic and outlook as I do. I work with the local coordinators for the second wildlife group in Sydney, who will disperse babies through their network, so I don't know how many rescuer carers there are. You get to hear about people who do it a lot, but you really don't get to hear about people who just take a couple of babies per year. There are few rescuers for adults, and fewer carers who will take adults. During baby season there are a lot of (baby only) rescuers who crawl out of the woodwork and after the babies stop coming in they are never seen or heard from again until next season. I have 4 microbat carers I can use, depending on how busy they are, but only one always available. I have one occasional rescuer, 2 new maybe rescuers, one person who does logistics and can rescue at a pinch if it's just a pickup; I have Maggie at a pinch if it's just a pickup. That's about it. Other areas have other people; I have various people I'd drive to the opposite end of Sydney for because their care is so good. We figure it out as we go and we work with the people with whom we "click".
Not really - it didn't take long. The awkward ones are the ones where you have to fish around for an hour trying to hook the bat out of the tree and it keeps escaping or refusing to climb on. Try searching Megabattie/Stiltz, Megabattie/Pole rescue/Polly Wolly Doodle, Megabattie/C3PO, and the really awkward one, Megabattie/Tarbi/fishing line. And there's also Megabattie/TV aerial/Bruce and Megabattie/TV aerial/Ariel.
AWWW I LOVE these vids-- these little guys are SO sweet and cute.. It's my morning inspiration to see their cute little faces.. :) And YES- that is the way of things-- any time you NEED something that is the ONE time you WON"T have it with you-- no matter what it is.. tools, etc. doesn't matter.
