I absolutely love this piece! It is very steampunk-esque. This no way shape or form needs to be relegated specifically to a kid's room. I could see this peace used in a million different ways! Hands down in my top five with favorite pieces you have done.... Maybe even in my top three!

Great technique to utilize blue and red! I have a foyer table that is Barney purple thru no lack of effort trying to blend! I will redo with this method and I have all 4 colors!!!
Barney purple may be a slight exaggeration…😂 Love it! The kids make it even cuter. Best stage props ever!

Watching your videos helped me work through my impatience and self hatred when it comes to creating art. I always feel so discouraged when i cant seem to create something amazing in a short time, esp when other people make it look so easy. But watching your videos i started to really enjoy seeing the fun (and hard work!) you have through your process. Esp in this one you said to “trust the process” a lot, and it helped remind myself that too. I want to enjoy creating again and getting lost in the process, and not obsess over the end goal.
I really love that you opened up and said this. I know so many people pump out pieces super fast, I do not, I do one piece a week and give it everything I have, to me each piece of furniture is a canvas, remember these three things...
1. give yourself grace
2. quality over quantity
3. trust the process

Awesome!. Before I learned about textures and "proper" distressing. I used a scraper like you did here. It worked just fine for me. Love this piece and I love working with transfers. I used them alot in art classes in elementary school. I am so happy they are making a comeback after 30-35 years.

My husband came into the garage last weekend while I was painting his nightstand. The convo went like this-
Him: what are you doing?
Me: you said you wanted me to do your nightstand like I did mine.
Him: yes. As in the same colors.
Me: I am. This is the same colors, brushes, and even the same plates.
Him: it's green. Your nightstand isn't green.
Me: trust the process.
Him: ok. I don't know about this.
2 days later after it's dried and I have put it back next to his side of the bed and "staged it"
Me: how do you like it??
Him: you had to start over didn't you?
Me: I said trust the process.
Him: the process works I guess.
He really likes it!

I’ve got the belles and whistles for the balloons, too, for a twin-sized headboard and had planned similar red/blue but wasn’t sure how to blend them so I didn’t end up w/purple. Needless to say, I haven’t started that project yet. Thank you so much for this one! I am much less nervous about tackling it now.

Hey Crys'Dawna! Watching your video now but wanted to share a tip I heard from another furniture artist. Instead of using Goo Gone or the like, she uses Lemon essential oil to remove gooey stuff - dab it on and let it sit for about 10 mins and then scrape off. Seemed to work really well and no harsh chemicals. My hubby has COPD so anything I can do to protect his (our) lungs and general health, we'll try. Love love love your work. Thank you!

I love it! And doesn’t it match a desk you painted for you son in an earlier video? But you used the decoupage tissue? It was really great too. I have a piece that I want to paint in blues for my grandsons (10) but I’m trying to think of a theme for decoration. I might have stained that top with a watered down red. This is fantastic - I'm trying to do a piece right now that has that same moulding detail and I'm thinking I might want to give this a shot. I blew thru the veneer on the top though and I don't know what to do about that😕. I'm still learning.
About how long does it take you to finish something like that? I'm agonizingly slow and my dear husband is getting annoyed - I do as much as I can after work & stuff, I'm just a plodder I guess.

Don’t be hard on yourself!! I work on one piece a week and that’s usually how long it takes me, I wait the proper dry times and such as well so don’t let these people who do these fast flips fool you, either they aren’t waiting the proper time for things to dry or they aren’t really telling you the truth about how long it takes them :)
If you blow through veneer you can try to use gel stain to stain the top orrrrr your next option is to paint :)

I know it’s so hard to have kids through IVF and surrogacy :( we went through the infertility thing so I feel for you. I wish people who wanted kids could and it wasn’t so hard and expensive then you have people out here popping out kids who don’t want them :(

Your kids are adorable...and the piece came out so cute! I see you used one coat of BOSS I’m glad you did because I often wondered why It says to use two coats on the jar.
If I am not using a super light color and it doesn’t bleed thru my first coat of boss I generally stop. If I am going to have bleed thru 9/10 it will show through that first layer fo BOSS :) if it does then yes I use another layer :)

I thought you were getting a little too nuts with the red, but nope. I love this finished piece. I think it would have also looked nice with a whitewashed finish top, even if the red did bleed through?
