    A few years back Smith and Wesson built some .357 mag. revolvers that would not stand up to the maximum pressure as stated by SAAMI in loading manuals. They were able to get SAAMI to lower the maximum pressure in loading manuals. When loading for newer revolvers you will need to make sure you use a newer reloading manual. There is a difference in maximum powder charge in all my older manuals than there is in my newer books. It may only be a problem with newer S&M revolvers I don't know. Just be aware.

      Yes!! Always refer to as many sources as possible; start low and work your way up!! Not all revolvers can take the same pressures.

    WW296 is a good powder for 357 as well.

      Yes it is; being that they are the same powders!! (just different branding)🙂

      H110 requires magnum primers!! 🙂

    Worth mentioning is that H110 and W296 are the same powder so 100% interchangeable

      @@CloningersGarage I had a nice SS 686….6” barrel…. I regret selling it!

    I need to replace my front sight on my 686+. I was thinking about putting a vortex red dot on it, but idk if i want to do that or not. It is a few screws, easily restore it back to iron sights. Idk if i want a red dot or not on mine

    • @CloningersGarage
      @CloningersGarage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't know about that. I have red dots on my pistols, but I have not ever thought about putting a red on my revolvers. If you do let me know how it works out!!

    Is 16" barrel with 357 enough for a deer rifle?

    • @russellkeeling4387
      @russellkeeling4387 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends where you hunt. The firearm will have enough energy to harvest a deer but the law may not allow you to use it. In Colorado in order to hunt big game the rifle must produce 1000 foot pounds of energy at 100 yards as specified by the manufacturer and .357 does not comply.

    1400 fps with a 158gr bullet out of a 4 inch barrel is pretty impressive. I have a 6" 686 and I've never shot lead bullets out of it, so I may give the blue bullets a try. I also have a Henry .357 rifle with a 20 inch barrel and I'm really curious to see how they will perform in it with that 16.9 gr load. I'm looking for a cartridge load that comes close to maximizing performance in both guns.

    • @CloningersGarage
      @CloningersGarage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Work up to it as I did; It is over all published maxs. It would probably be really good out of that 20in. Henry. Let me know how it goes!

    What was the COL on those? Love the video btw.

      I don't have any to check right now, but I believe that for the Blue Bullets it was 1.625" when seated to the crimp groove. I am not sure on the red Bayou Bullets. I believe the norm is 1.59", though I have seated some 160g LSWCHP to I believe 1.66" which still fit in my Smith 686. That may be too long for some cylinders. I like how the 158g Blue Bullets shoot in both the .357 mag and the .38 Special.

      @@CloningersGarage Thanks for the reply! I ordered some Blue bullets and I was just curious where you had your COL at. I'm looking forward to working up a load for my little revolver!

      Yes, nice velocity from a 4" Barrel! It is stout. Brass ejects easily and no pressure signs. I do think I will stop there!!

      I love my Lil Dandy powder measures. I've tested the consistency of the throws while using it a few different ways. The most consistent is mounting it in a powder measure stand secured on a solid surface. But for plinking ammo, handheld is very fast. I'll even mount it on a turret press from time to time. I have 25 rotors. I store them in a 12 ga shotshell ammo box from MTM. Good vid! 😊

    I see you are left eye dominate also, Blues were shooting better for sure .

    • @CloningersGarage
      @CloningersGarage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, I'm actually right eye dominate, but with my contacts in I have to shoot as if i am left eye dominate in order to see the sights. So yes I can see how you would think that. I actually have moved to shooting mostly red dot optics on my handguns due to this. (my contacts are left for near vision and right for far) With red dots I can just shoot with both eyes open; much better with my aging eyesight!!

      @@CloningersGarage I can see where you would say you are right eye dominate but with your contacts you are in fact left eye dominate. Just giving you crap is all but I did like you video and look forward to seeing more !
