This lineup represents Poison Idea at their best. Best output in terms of song writing and chops. They were very tight live with Slayer Hippy and Mondo teaming up with Pig in the rhythm section and the Vegetable on lead. I am from Portland and saw them several times during this era.
for real!!! I last saw Steve (Hippy) at the Dwarves show at Dante's. He gave me a bear hug and that was the last time I saw him....I wanted so bad to see him play drums for The Accused whilst opening for PI...couldn't make it

I saw Thee Slayer hippy open for Eyehategod with Thee Accused at Dante’s. During Eyehategods set Mike IX said, “whatever you do don’t give any wine to slayer hippy,” I remember Slayer Hippy got the biggest kick out of that and reposted it the following day. He did some amazing drumming on that Festish album as well!!!
The single best drummer I’ve ever heard is unknown to the vast majority of the rock music audience. It’s almost as big of a travesty as was his death. I didn’t know him well, so I don’t feel qualified to comment on anything besides his playing. I did, however, know Tom “Pig Champion” Roberts as well as anyone. The look Tom would get in his eyes sometimes when he spoke of what it was like playing with Steve said more than any words ever could. May they both Rest In Peace. The Darkness claims its own,
Great memories seeing them at the Pine Street for the first time in 1988 and the last time in 93 I think @ Portland Meadows with a couple other bands opening for Nirvana. Good times. They always put on the best shows.
If this is Vegetable on Lead, he his / was their best by the sounds of these tracks. They stand out a bit more than Feel the Darkness, i dont know who played lead on that, i always thought Pig played lead until now. Good EP.

I mean, listen to the lyrics for "...pre-op": scathing sarcasm! Ouch. Furthermore, I heard it was bassist Brian B, not necessarily Ian, who was the real loudmouth smartass (haha "ass"!) in Minor Threat. Supposedly "Small man big mouth" was written about Brian...but who knows. Anyone out there got the story on the MT/PI feud?
i think that Ian's self righteous straight-edge preaching got a little too much for the boys liking! Little did we know that "god gave me this liver, didn't know he was an indian giver" would come back to haunt us!
@@AceFurley I heard "Small man, big mouth" was Ian taking a shot at Springa SS Decontrol's singer. i guess Ian didn't like Springa very much as the story goes.
@@drewrocker9934 Timeline's not quite right. That song came out on an EP released in the summer of '81. SSD had just started playing their first few shows in Boston by then. Debatable that Ian would have known who Springa was when the song was written, although scenes were small, and Boston is slightly closer to DC than SF is to Portland, so maybe. But then again, there've always been hordes of little bastards trying to make up for their size. Without them the USMC would never hit its recruitment targets. It doesn't have to be any certain person.
