  • The research I did contacting lots of scooter shops in the UK and Spain and the Vespa Forums is that there was a shortage of supply of Vespa in the late 60’s so only 4 of these Vespa's were sent across to the UK.
They came without the rear spare wheel carrier and toolbox. This is what made them unique.
There are several libraries of Vespa Models but this one is not on any of them making more interesting….
This restoration is one thing but the story from finding it to handing over to its new owner is another…
The video is a back catalogue of photos taken along the way with a short video of hearing it running at the end. But the story goes like this…
During a break near the end of the Covid lock downs, with a pal of mine ‘Gee’ we took a trip to a local castle for a ride on our scooters, we met a couple out walking who got talking with us about our scooters, one thing led to another and I bought this little Vespa, it had been stripped down in around the year 2000 by its owner and his best friend but his best friend was suddenly taken from us so the owner lost interest and it then stood in the garage for 20+ years..
When I got it home it had light rust on the body, but it was totally solid everywhere with the bottom struts removed. I welded some new ones on and began prepping for the paint. The original colour was still on the petrol tank logged in the logbook as ‘Ice Blue’ which actually looks white unless put against white then it looks as if it has a hint of green…So we labelled it ‘Apple white’. I had some paint mixed to the nearest match and restored the body work and panels to the original looking ‘Apple White’.
The forks were completely gone so the strip down and replace with all new parts ensued. I took the head top and clutch cover off but decided it was all still original so to leave it unspoiled I cleaned them up and put them back on with new gaskets.
The very rare stator with only 2 coils also had a duel in line resistor that needed to be connected or the circuit would not connect as there was no resistance from the coils…These took and awful lot of research to find out how they worked. Sadley I couldn’t save the stator plate so a new one was sourced from Spain.
Another surprise is that the rear brake light dims when pressed rather than gets brighter. I’m guessing this wasn’t an issue back in 1969!
I reluctantly sold the Vespa (because I was buying a house) to a sweet old fella in the midlands as his first bike on the road after passing his test.. He loves it but we have a solid agreement that when he wants to pass it on I can buy it back, which I definitely will.
I hope you enjoyed the clips.
