  • The history of Bangalore dates back to many centuries back. But if we talk of the mordern Bangalore, It was founded by Kempe Gowda of the Vijayanagara Empire, who built a mud fort in the year 1537. Kempe Gowda also referred to the new town as his "gandu bhoomi" or "Land of Heroes".
Kempe Gowda's successor, Kempe Gowda II, built temples, tanks including Kempapura and Karanjikere tanks and four watching towers that marked Bangalore's boundary. Bangalore was later under the control of Marathas, Wodeyars and British.
Today, Bangalore is the hub of IT and other Multi National companies.
Within this city are certain places which are lesser known and not much known to the people. 'In my series, "The Other Bangalore" I have tried to bring to you these little known facts about the capital of Karnataka.
K R Market in Bangalore is one of the biggest markets of flowers in Asia.
Flowers from this market are supplied to all parts of India and even exported to other countries. Different varieties of Flowers are available for religious and other occasions. My visit to this market in my recent trip was very interesting. The market starts very early in the morning by 3.00 in the morning and finishes by 9.00 in the morning.
The place is a must for all those who want to see Bangalore beyond the usual tourist places.
