I grew up in the 70s, so have loved your videos on Vintage 70s. I learned to sew by watching my Mom. She sewed almost all of our clothes. Sadly, she didn’t really have the time to teach me as she was busy running a household of 11. So I was kind of self-taught, but my love of sewing came from her. Unlike you, I did not save any of my makes, which now saddens me😢. I wish I would’ve kept what to date I believe was one of my most successful, perfect makes. A Princess seam mini dress with pearl buttons. I loved that dress and wore it a long time for many years.

Hi Marisol, My mother never sewed. I too had to learn on my own. I wish I saved my makes. I only saved this dress because I kept it hung in my closet in my parents house when I was growing up and it was my favorite. Your comments touched my heart. We both have such a love for sewing. I thank God he gave me the talent to sew and experience such joy of sewing and to share that with others. It's truly the only time I'm really happy is when I'm busy in my sewing room. Thanks for watching.

@@sewlovelywithgrace the dress was definitely Saturday Night Fever glamor. It’s so awesome you’ve hung onto it for so long. And you’re right about being happy in your sewing room. That is my place of happiness and solace as well. At times my poor husband comes in and checks up on me or comes in just to give me a hug. He knows this is my piece of heaven. I think I’ve finally watched all your videos.I looked into possibly signing up for the Vogue swatch pamphlet and the review on the bias binding machine was very helpful. As we live on a very tight budget I’ve made up my mind that I don’t need to spend a lot of money on something I can do manually.

@@marisolreyes6502 Well the way the world is today, I am blessed to be able to escape into my sewing room and create and be alone with God. I will show it when I do. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy the rest of the week.

Hi Grace! I just watched this video as I'm making my way to watching all your videos :). I own that t-shirt pattern you're wearing and have made it like five times. But, I've never made it with the sleeve bands and I have to say seeing it on you I love it! Now I want to make me some more with the bands. LOL. That blue 70's dress reminds me of my sisters back in that era had dresses just like that also. I guess that was a hit style back then. Very nice. Thank you for sharing!

I love your t-shirt and the way the stripe on the cuffs accentuates the rest of the shirt. You inspire me to start sewing more with knits. I've been eyeing the Mimi G sewing school, too, but am not sure I have time right now. If you do take some classes, I'd love to know more about your experience. Have a great rest of your weekend!

Great top w/ NL 6216!!! Love the look of the sleeve banding. Like how you got the stripes on the bands centered. Great job!!! As far as use for more of the fabric, my vote is for the long sleeved top. Haven't yet seen your '70's video; just recently found your channel and am enjoying it! Your disco dress is so typical of that era (I graduated high school in '77). When I think of disco, I think of Saturday Night Fever and the soap opera Dallas. On a couple of episodes, Pam and Bobby Ewing went to a disco to go dancing. LOL!!! I never got into the disco craze. The song Disco Duck was so stupid (my own opinion) that it turned me off of that whole experience, but I enjoyed the music a lot. Nancy Zieman was the best seamstress ever and you were so fortunate to have met her. Been watching her old PBS programs posted on YT. Love her pattern fitting video and have watched it several times. Thanks for sharing your videos, patters and plans. You're doing a great job! 👍🏼👍🏼🙂

Hi Dori, Thanks! It's a great top. I plan on making more and I might make the 3/4 length sleeve Butterick top. The 70s were a fun time musically and it's when I learned to sew. I watched Nancy on PBS and I was so fortunate and thrilled to have met her. She's quite a lady. I'm glad you found and are enjoying my channel.

Nancy Zieman was my sewing teacher, as I was able to attend her Sewing with Nancy Sewing Weekend at Beaver Dam WI for 32 years. Of course, Nancy's programs at Sewing Weekend were the main attraction, and she was so full of fun telling her blonde jokes.
She was a real teacher explaining each step or tip in simple detail. She is greatly missed. I have enjoyed your Friday Sews and look forward to more of them.

Hi Grace, amazing video this week, so full of great content 😊. 6216 is the most favourite pattern of mine and like you I add the cuffs but not the pocket. Yours looks stunning in that stripe and fabric, well done! I recently recommended to a friend who was a complete beginner and she was so thrilled she did it she now has the sewing bug 👏🏻. The trousers are great too, give them a try. I will warn against the long sleeve version though as no shoulder seams. It takes a huge amount of fabric to create it, but I suppose perfect for a beginner wanting to try sleeves without too much hassle! I have made 6650 a couple of times and it would look great on you. the only thing with the striped fabric is you have to bear in mind the ties and how you want to place the stripes. I made it out of a border print once and it really didn’t work. Great pattern and so easy to do though. Loved seeing your dress from the past, I only have one thing I have made for me kept in the loft, a red ball gown I made in the 80s 😂 What was I thinking!! Some great advice re fitting Grace, thank you ❤
