Woodturning - GIANT Log to Bowl
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 21 ส.ค. 2021
- In this wood turning video I attempt to turn a giant monkey puzzle log into a beautiful looking wooden bowl. Monkey puzzle has some really interesting branches growing through the entire log giving plenty of characteristics to the piece. It was also spalted at many places what further enhance the overall look. Carved tiny feet to the bottom and added my branding logo. Finished with few coats of Danish oil. 😊

That's a beautiful bowl. The grain is amazing.
Повезло пеньку стать красивой вещью, а не сгореть в огне как многим. Молодец мастер, мне очень понравилось.
I'm so glad you didn't waste a lot of the top part of the log the lower log is beautiful with its built in circles. Such a beauty to see.
Love the innovative foot. You’ve given a good idea for the next pots I throw.
I've seen several people turn these and they never fail to impress. Good job on the piece 👍

Muito obrigado :)
I thought it awfully odd the natural placement of the branches, so I looked up Monkey Puzzle Tree. I have only lived in the South and have never seen or heard of one before now. Its nice that you can repurpose into such a beautiful creation.
Thank you 😀 It is also called Norfolk Pine. Here in the UK we call it Monkey puzzle
I met a Native American guy once working on a wood carving where the wood was bright yellow, unusual grain. He told me was Bodarck, aka Osage Orange tree root.
Nice work, David. It turned out gorgeous!
Thanks Lucy 😀

Very cool! I have a few monkey puzzle trees that are growing around where I live. I always wondered what the wood looked like.
Thank you 😀 has some great characteristics and easy to turn. Bit soft so very sharp tools definitely needed
Good work
Thank you so much 😀
Great bowl, love the Norfolk Pine, (Monkey Puzzle Tree) always good looking, keep up the good work. I had the opportunity to turn a large platter, looks like a large sunburst.
Thank you 😀
Monkey Puzzle and Norfolf Pine belong to the same family (Araucaria) but are different species. I agree with you, It's a lovely piece. 😁
Нам в школе мастер по шее бил когда стамеску обхватывали пальцем. Техника безопасности однако.
How good was that? What talent. Well done sir.
Thanks so much 😀
Beautiful! I really thought he would make a lid from this piece of wood he cut off on the lathe.
Thanks so much 😀 i will turn that piece one day. I still have it..
Nice
Thank you 😀

Nice looking vase, not sure where the bowl went.
Thank you, Merry Christmas!
I've also heard it called Monkey Fist. And also from a smaller tree where they just turned around the knots But that looks beautiful and a wonderful job turning it!!!!
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Thanks a lot 😀
@@DavidsWoodturning You are very welcome!!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💜💜💜💜
Love watching wood turning videos and seeing all the cool things being made. My only "gripe" is when large pieces of wood are used and turned down to either much smaller pieces or hollowed out. Just seems like so much waste. My cost-conscious brain just can't comprehend it. This particular piece I feel like could have been made into a set of like 3 different sized bowls. How cool would that be! I'm sure there's a reason it can't be done that I'm not aware of, but I'd love to figure out how to make it happen.
I get what you're saying, but I reckon this particular piece made a great feature of the features of the wood. And the wood was such a funny shape it might have otherwise been chipped or burnt.
If what you're thinking is concentric, nested bowls, you may like this: th-cam.com/video/sQilVX_3HoQ/w-d-xo.html
Although it used resin, which is an acquired taste...
@@davedavem yes! 100% what I was thinking. I wish more people did this! I just hate wasting such beautiful pieces of wood that I know can be turned into so many cool things!
Thanks for your feedback. I do have the bowl saver coring system to reduce waste however as it was an end grain turning it puts loads more stress on my lathe when coring it out with the system so it does not worth risking braking my lathe.
ШИК
я в школе на трудах такие горшки делал.ни чего особо сложного..
Is that Norfolk pine 🌲? Looks like it. That wood makes beautiful bowls.
Yes it is also called Norfolk Pine 😀
Very good I just found this have rung that bell and subscribed
