Hi both, I love filter tinkering 😊 I didn't think the bin would cope with it as I explained in your last video. The upflow is a fab idea, but with a 10000l pump with no variable control, it might be too fast for the upflow. Chris might need to built a double upflow, then that will be perfect 😊

Love your pond. I use a wheelie bin as a trickle shower after a pressured sump type filter. I've just fitted an upflow on my heater circuit. I used to have a blagdon 6000 pressure filter on there but it was a pain to clean. I'm really loving the upflow. So easy to clean. I did a similar thing as you with increasing the pump capacity. I used to run two pumps. A blagdon variable pump that was 6000ltr and a standard 5000ltr pump. The 6000 ran my filters and the 5000 ran the heater circuit. I've now upgraded to a 20000ltr variable pump (way over the top). The reason I did that was because the top of upflow is about 1.75mtr from the floor and I just didn't have the head pressure on the other two pumps. It runs through a oase Y piece so I can control the flow to each of the different circuits and I will be adding a second upflow as soon as I get all the parts. I've done a series of video's on the build if you are interested.

I don't use any floss as it is a pain and a chore cleaning it. You will need something to filter the poop first though or it will clog up the media just as quick as the floss and that will be a bigger job cleaning. Either a sieve, Upflow or a Pressure Filter would work. I use a Pressure filter at present but will be swapping to a sieve soon as my flow rate is reduced using a Pressure filter and a Tempest or upflow only works at a slow flow rate (5,000 to 7,500 LPH). A tip would be to fit a couple of Valves, either side a pump or any equipment then you can easily isolate them to remove or swap anytime.

    Hi guys.
I never use floss in my shower, but i didn't appreciate the rubbish I was putting over it until I built and fitted my upflow filter, you do need a certain amount of blockage in the shower media to grow the anaerobic bacteria that eats the nitrate, this bacteria won't live on plastic media, upflow filter before the shower will be brilliant, you'll be amazed at what it catches, and the clarity of the water, my 200 x 1000mm tube with 11 litres K+ media handles 8000 lts/hr, only downside needs cleaning every 3-4 days, but beats cleaning floss every day.

How to make things as hard as possible. 1) cut hole in shed 2) squeeze in baki shower 3) struggle to get anything in or out ever!!

Under gravity from the skimmer you would need a 3 inch or more feed to the bin for it to have worked on the 10000L pump. Think you are right in thinking upflow filter to the shower from the pump but as to weather you build one or go with the EA Tempest build one off Terrys plans and go with the Diy auto clean on it as well the Tempest only flows 5000L so would put you back to where you started. Thanks for filming

You will need a filter. If you can find a 2nd hand one going cheap try a large pressure filter until you work out what you want to do or buy an expensive very large self cleaning one if you are flush lol.
