I agree with you how pastors are not required to be married. The Greek for "husband of one wife" means one woman man, someone who doesn't commit adultery, someone who's loyal to their spouse, someone who is not a womanizer, someone who is not a player, etc. The Greek for "Husband of one wife" means someone who doesn't commit adultery. According to 1 Timothy, the 3 main criteria for being a pastor are being able to teach the Word of God in a way people can understand, being able to lead a church, and having good Christian character.
When 1 Timothy 3 explains how pastors need to be gentle, be trustworthy, be spiritually mature, be a good role model, be the husband of one wife, be honest, etc, Paul is trying to make the point that pastors need to be people who have good Christian character, and when Paul is explaining how pastors need to be gentle, trustworthy, spiritually mature, a good role model, husband of one wife, honest, etc, he is explaining what it means to have good Christian character, and he is explaining what good Christian character consists of.
Paul and Timothy were pastors of churches, and Paul and Timothy were never married, which is strong evidence how it's not a sin for single people to be pastors.
