I know I know, people have strong feelings about Jimmy Swaggart, especially regarding his downfall in the 80s. Everyone from pastors, to Ozzie Osbourne were taking shots at him. This video is not intended to take shots at him, or his critics, it is intended to give you a look at a bible that his ministry released and decide if it will be helpful. I use study material from people with whom I disagree all the time, I also don’t shy away from controversial figures. MacArthur is controversial in his own right, some would even argue that Al Mohler is. My channel is designed to give a balanced view of all sorts of bibles and study materials, provided they aren’t so far off the wall I can’t be objective. With all that said, here is a quick look at the Expositor’s Study Bible that has several very unique features.
The blood of Jesus takes away your sin, if you repent, and accept Jesus as your personal savior, making what Jesus did at the cross the object of your faith.
The Expositors Bible is a great asset for learning and is scripturally sound. His Bible Commentaries are most of what you need to understand many mysteries of God and His Word. His emphasis on Jesus and Him crucified drives home the importance of Jesus and Him crucified. Try it, it will be a blessing.
Of all the colors in the spectrum, why J.S. chose red to highlight his notes is beyond me. It contends with the words of Christ, for those who enjoy red letter editions. And to have his-or anyone else's notes-conjoined with the scriptures themselves, is just too intrusive for me. It's like trying to drive with fogged up windows. And with his belief in pre Adamic theology, I wouldn't recommend this Bible. Especially to new believers. Great review, though. God bless.
I type a lot of studies out and find that particular notes with a white background stand out (without hurting the eyes like orange or yellow text) in red. If you read through the Expositor's Bible, the red commentary notes actually do not intrude. It'd be similar if some who bought one of the Scofield study Bibles which was one of many to market Jesus' Words in red, to say the color distracted. Blues, greens, or other text colors are flat and would not be very well separated from scripture too. Red clearly makes it so that we understand his notes are commentary but not to be confused with scripture. Pre-gap theory is not a requisite for Salvation nor is it ever presented by any theologian as fact. Jimmy Swaggart is in a long line of Christians who do believe in it. For those who don't know what it is, it's textual criticism in-depth look into a pre-Adamic world based on a gap in Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. It's very plausible and should be studied only by those well rooted in their Faith and theology. The state of the Earth in Genesis 1:1 / 1:2 does imply from the Hebrew text that the Earth had indeed existed prior to God's creation of Earth for mankind. This bothers many folks but I'll leave this there. God didn't create Satan but rather cast down the angel Lucifer who after being cast out of Heaven, dwelled in the pits of Hell (where as a result of the fall became Satan). We know this event occured prior to Genesus unless someone could bother to explain how Satan was already in the garden of Eve before the creation of man? Isaiah 14:15-15 is a prophecy given of this fall which clearly was Earth prior to the creation of man. At no point in scripture do we read of Lucifer falling during man's creation. Again, whether someone believes in pre-gap or not is no reason to dismiss them. It still is a theory and we'll never know in full in this lifetime.
My husband and I received this Bible from our family last Christmas! We love it, I hate to search study Bible notes on the side and bottom of the page. This is way easier. Throughout the red commentary notes, Swaggart placed reference verses and even talks about some of the books in Catholic Bibles, like Maccabees. He is very in depth. We love it and it smells so good. (I smell my Bibles, I don't know if other people do, but I do! Haha)
I had the bonded leather twice, the binding tore apart. I didn't put anything inside of it. Just tore apart from lots of use. I'm getting the signature edition Saturday.
I have The Lady's Edition of this Bible, blue bonded leather. It's a very well bound, high quality volume. Jimmy Swaggart offers some new and unexpected thoughts here and there. I don't agree with his every thought, but I always gain new insights whenever I peruse this bible for even a few minutes. I just ordered the Spanish Edition, $50, half price sale via his website. The Spanish appears to be verbatim commentary from the English version, which should yield an excellent Spanish study course !!! Side by side reading. Thank you for your great review !!
My issue with this Bible is that Swaggart mixed his commentary in with the inspired Scripture. While I’m not a fan of study Bibles in general, they do serve a purpose for folks who want ‘everything’ in one volume. My fear is that it’s too easy to put Swaggart‘s comments, in this format, on the same level as holy Scripture, especially for a new Christian.
I can see that point of view, but it is all laid out very clearly in the intro. It is the listed reason he put it in red letter. But again…point taken.
Chad… As I said, my issue is more with the format and not the content. For what’s it’s worth though…. Swaggart did change the KJV text here and there. Nothing that I am aware of that is an issue, but it’s not a true KJ text. I have owned this bible for many years and am well familiar with it.
@@REVNUMANEWBERN maybe some are unnecessary but it doesn't make it bizarre by any stretch. You using 'a zillion examples' to make your point is bizarre because there's simply not that many in regards to what you're referring to. If someone were to pick up that Bible and want to know what a particular verse meant, without context, his commentary would be sufficient for that reason alone. No need in knocking someone's work for the Lord, unless it was contradictory to God's Word or hindered someone from learning.
I love the Expositor’s Study Bible. Jimmy Swaggart is the greatest evangelist this world has seen since the Apostle Paul. Despite what anyone may think, he is a great man of God.
I live in Houston and i drove all the way to Baton Rouge, Louisiana just to buy the Expositor Study Bible, when to his church and bought it and drove back to Houston 😂😂
Not for me but very intriguing. Agree with your policy on giving a wide variety of theological positions in study Bibles a fair hearing on the channel.
@@sandygraves He does use scholars in Greek and Hebrew as he states in the book. But since you must have the book already , you already know this. If you do not like this book, which book do you like instead?
I would not mind reading one because like you I’ve got no problem reading a study Bible from someone who I disagree with (and I disagree with Jimmy Swaggart on a lot). I just don’t really want to give his ministry money to get one.
It's good bible, and very well done. I know that people don't like it because of the red notes and where they are placed, but I see that as a small issue. I mean, if he wanted attention, he could have called it the "Swaggart Study Bible", like some other well know preachers have done, in naming theirs after themselves. As far as his past failures, we all have them. Thank God that He is a forgiving God, or else we would all be in trouble.
All far short of the glory of God. If God kept a record of our transgressions, who could stand? I appreciate Swaggart's commitment to the Word of God, and the primacy of the cross. I probably won't buy this Bible but I am thankful he is not promoting a health and wealth gospel that minimizes sin and makes Jesus an option and not the only way to heaven
While I understand your point and I am no Swaggart apologist, he makes it very clear what is his commentary and what is scripture. It is very odd that he chose red letters considering what they’ve represented the past 100 years, but even that is an invention of man.
No he does not. Stop with your lies. Black is King James Scripture, Red is his explanation /commentary. This brings a whole enjoyment to studying God's word!!! Sorry you do not like it. What study Bible do you like and use?

Its going to have a Pentecostal bias. Swaggart believes in a pre-Adamite earth just as Finis Jennings Dake believed. Finis Dake influenced Swaggart in many ways. I love his music not his teaching. If I had to use the Bible then I would if stranded on a island.
His secretary typeset it? Wow! I agree that it's a little weird to have the notes right in with the scripture. But at the same time you don't have to jump down to the notes and back up to scripture and down to the notes... I really appreciate that you feature lots of different Bibles.
