    Another thing for the beginner artists here to consider:
    You don't always have to be confident in your work for people to like it, or for it to be considered good. The most important thing is getting stuff done. But, you can create artwork without being totally happy with it. If building confidence requires getting told your art is great, then find an art community where you can post things and then read about how to engage with people to get it seen. You don't have to be entirely confident in your wok to share it and get feedback. You can fake it until you make it with confidence.

    I’m starting out, one of my friends is a very good artist that started at an early age. She has a cute style and I’m very jealous and I compare my art to hers a lot.
    I have my own style. I doodle in class a lot, a few people have said that they think my art looks really good but I always have a feeling that they are lying. I practice a lot but it never turns out the way it did in my head.
    This video was sooo helpful.

      @@alanjimenez9282 ...Do you lie about liking stuff? Are you showing your art to the wrong people? Or maybe it's that sometimes it's hard to put words on what you like and having this problem makes people sound like they're unsure and it sounds like lying?

    • @aliyahblidner
      @aliyahblidner 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Same except none of my friends have been drawing like that. I just want my art style to be cuter and more dynamic and simplistic because my style is too stiff and hidden for me because I don’t even understand my own art style, I can’t connect with it, it doesn’t match with me at all and all the art sucks when I draw because of the style

    • @chickennuggetpaw1017
      @chickennuggetpaw1017 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Everyone has stuff they’re bad at drawing. Heck, I can’t even draw humans, I only draw animals. And I don’t color, because WHO has the patience for that. I’m not very good at anatomy, and I’ve grown to hate my own art style, so I’m stuck in limbo between styles. But the way I find confidence is to think of all the things I’m GOOD at and how far I’ve come! Now that it’s been a couple years, I’m sure you’ve grown a lot, even if you don’t see it. If you’re still into art, (I hope you are) I hope that you’ve found more confidence in your art, because your style is YOURS. It’s unique, and reflects all the things you like. So be proud. ❤️

    • @theautisticartist9370
      @theautisticartist9370 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you can see what your going to draw in your head, then if you practice enough, it might start to look exactly as you imagined.
      Best of luck to you!

    Looking at my past self, I drew a lot of pretty anime-ish stuffs & yes I got better over the years but I suddenly don't feel that I enjoy drawing it anymore & then I knew that I want to have my own art style. It does saddens me when some people tells me 'Hey, your previous art style is better than your new one! Why did you change it?' or 'You should've kept your previous art style. A lot of people liked it.' At that time I lost confidence in drawing & I got depressed. Things were getting rough back then & I hated my art but I didn't want to stop drawing. Now I'm still developing my own art style & I don't care what people say as long I enjoy drawing them. I also start saving inspirations & it really helps motivating me too.
    I'm really glad I came across your video. This types of videos always kept me going. Thank you for the inspiration. And your art is super adorable!

      yeul I have developed my style around a couple months ago and I got bored real quick. I noticed my art style is not good for animating or any medium of art. It’s not very cute, it’s stiff and rigid and it annoys me, and I wanted to try to change it, but my hands and brain don’t want me to change it so they don’t really let me draw pther styles because they don’t want me to spend days crumbling to bits over my art and throwing my sketchbook at my bathroom window while in breakdown mode, sobbing and scribbling with my copics and posca pens all over my god dayum body.
      Does anyone have any advice?

    Confidence is something that's hard to master. Same goes with Patience. I have suffered with a lot of confidence issues and it's been really hard. But, of course, I kept going. And if I hadn't had kept going, I wouldn't be the person I am today. This video, shows how much that confidence is a hard thing to master, and I like that :)

So im starting at the beginning and drawing other things than people now :) I have to kinda start from the beginning now and try to draw objects or like bugs and stuff, but honestly drawing other things and not people makes me feel better! :)

    I've been extremely hard on my art lately. My friend gave me a pretty harsh critique. She couldn't find a single thing she liked about my art(even tho she claims i'm a good artist) and so the negatives list is so long i struggle to find something to be proud of. It absolutely sucks

    • @effiedoozer7232
      @effiedoozer7232 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Right... Don't focus so hard on one person, even if they're your friend. I've had friends I rarely show a drawing to. They just have interests that aren't art related, or that are directed at styles that are nothing like mine. Also: sometimes I can tell someone is really skilled at something even if I don't like their art or even their personality!

    Well, while I was searching for "Introverted artists" I came across this video. Not what I was looking for but, there's been some valid points that caught my attention. Either than that, if you're looking getting into a professional career as an artist, you need to have a personality that other people are willing to work with. I'm having trouble socializing and just a lot of anxiety issues. Of course, I'm working on this but if any of you have this same situation and there's a certain book you read or videos you watch, feel free to recommend it to me.
    Have a lovely day guys!

      Zoie Cleghorn Some people don't share your same religious beliefs. You don't get to dictate what others are allowed to say. If you think I'm going to go to Hell, Jesus fucking Christ. So be it.

    • @hunchbacktortilla
      @hunchbacktortilla 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Zoie Cleghorn That doesn't mean that I think you shouldn't believe in God. You can believe in whatever you want, it doesn't bother me. But it's the internet, I'm gonna say whatever I want.

    • @taiinted5371
      @taiinted5371 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Don't be hypocritical, though. If you're allowed to say whatever you want, they're entitled to do the same. I can see how it can be disrespectful to Zoie if people say God's name in vain, and I don't think putting them down is making the situation better.

    Hey Kasey, sorry I have been missing your livestreams. I feel like you always know what to say on these topics. You are so professional in a personal way..... I know those are opposites but they seem to be "one" in you. You keep getting better, I notice it in your progression through out your videos. Good job Kasey, I hope to get better at drawing. Practice is hard to find time when I'm so busy with school work. Especially when all I want to do when I finish school work is sleep, not draw. I need to try. Thanks for motivating me Kasey. One really useful tip for people who are having trouble drawing well is looking up reference pictures similar to what you want your art to look like. Not tracing or copying exactly, but looking at specific parts of the drawing and how others have done it, and passing some of the usefull information you've learned onto your drawings.

    It’s such a good feeling to look back at your old crappy art and see how much you improved overtime.
    When you’re first starting out, I myself thought I was gonna be a perfect artist and get everything right and it was so much more difficult then I thought. It really does take years to master your art and for me it took about 7 years to get to a place where I’m happy. Yet I still have so much to improve on. But when I look back at my old art I feel good because I remember when I was younger I wanted to be at the place of where I am now and I made that happen. (I hope that last sentence made sense)
    So it really helps to look back at your old art because for me it gave me confidence to keep drawing and hopefully it does the same for others.

    Aaaaand now I just remembered something my old 2nd-grade teacher used to say, "Patience is a virtue. Virtue is a grace. Put 'em both together: get a very happy face!" Or something like that, I don't know, that was a long time ago, but it's definitely stuck with me for a while even though is till don't completely get it cause I keep forgetting the definition of virtue (Virtue: a behavior showing high moral standards)

    in order to get inspired and more confident i go back to my art that i liked at the time and hate now and then redraw it. sometimes i just cringe and laugh at it and see how much i improved and remember that i’m only 13 and i have a whole new rode of improvement that i’m going down. it helps me and makes me want to push down that rode!

    Your commentary on this topic honestly helped me a decent bit. Confidence is hard to build at times and this sort of thing is honestly really encouraging, especially learning that many others worked through the low points, too, and made it through. I think these tips are really helpful, especially to people who want to share their gifts with people but have trouble finding ways to get the confidence to do so.
    Side note: I honestly LOVE your style. Simpler styles are their own challenge altogether and yours is fantastic and easily recognizable!

      ...Some people are more sensitive than others to feeling accepted by others... I think you and I are different, but I can say to you that if your belief in what you do is well because you've made good decisions, it's so much easier to fend off the opinion of others.

    Any time that I find myself in an artistic rut, I watch this again to help give me a bit of a boost. Lacking confidence can be so overwhelming and draining. My favorite advice from this is to compare my art to my past work. It's a simple and straight forward advice but I tend to forget how much I've improved through the years. So thank you, Kasey.

    i have a friend named "Kooleen Cheska Fernandez" and she's a really great artist that i have completely felt jealousy on her
    at first i wasn't jealous at her because all i do is make comics but when i started in digital,i started to get jealous at her,i keep comparing my drawings to hers and worst,she keeps having more success than me!
    i keep asking to myself "why i wasn't her?,why she is more successful than me? why everyone prefers her,not me?"
    i've been making comics for 6 years,and i am 16,i am doing this for the sake of my future since i'm not good at learning and focusing so i'm focusing on my comics instead,but being surrounded by artists who are better than me,it's making me want to give up,especially my friend Kooleen is getting better and better that i can't keep up and surpass her anymore
    i use to think that i am the greatest comic writer of all of classrooms but not in the world

    one thing i learned in life is that when you judge yourself, you judge others. this can be applied to pretty much anything in life. if you hate yourself you see all the negative in people.
    in a similar way this applies alot to art too. if you want your art to look like others art, you judge their art. even if it is in a good way, considering what time and effort goes into it might help you on your journey. also, YOUR art is YOUR art. every single line you make, every tiny bit of paint spilled is part of what YOU made. no one will be able to do your exact mistakes and follow up with YOUR thoughts. whatever you do, dont be ashamed even if you hate it. when i create art i dont like, maybe i just didnt have the energy to create something great that day. just think about your art journey as a living thing - something that changes, something that has good times and bad times, your art is a reflection of yourself.

    I compare myself to others and that puts me down to where I don't even want to draw and I continuously think that it isn't good. When I found out my grades for art , they weren't amazing and when my parents asked why I thought maybe my teacher put my grades so low because others art is much better. I need motivation and confidence in art which I both lack alot. I also don't want people to think that I try to draw but can't.

    here's a tip from a young and aspiring artist ; don't focus on time. i started taking art seriously in november 2016, when i purchased my own drawing tablet with my own money. i was intimidated by all my digital art friends who were better. so you know what i did? *i drew so much i lost track of time!* i designed my style into something i wanted to see. then i slowly started to adapt how teakip and p666t drew their characters' feet into my style. then how scotch draws hands. and i'm not the best, but i'm better than i was in 2016. gosh, i didn't even know that i improved until my friend pointed it out to me last month! heck, i'm still firing and accommodating different thinks in my style today!! digitally and traditionally!!

    okay i just want to say something.
    if your not confident in drawing, and you end up drawing a part you dont like, or drawing something like as an example, a head or a face, that doesn't look like what you had in mind, just use it. because if you restart the whole drawing, then it probably means that your kinda not comfortable with drawing things your not used to drawing. you can redo the drawing if you want, but if you continue drawing things, you normally wouldn't draw, or doesn't exactly look good in your head, then you might get confident in your art.
    ive kinda started just going with it (what i mean is, by how i draw.) i started getting confident in drawing things, i normally wouldn't draw.
    so just try to use what you didn't like what you were drawing, instead of starting over. and you might be surprised at what you came up with.
    and yes i know most of this doesn't make any sence.

    Hey Kasey! Your video is inspiring to many who want to draw and helping them to believe in themselves that they can draw.
    I've been drawing on and off most of my life, i have big issues with my 'can do' attitude and having confidence in drawing. I wanted to become a good artist all of my life and tried so hard to draw, but i kept messing up on proportions like hands, fingers, feet, body, faces, etc.
    I tried looking at references and tried to improve...but i kept on hitting brick walls and i kept on getting frustrated and gave up. I know you need a lot of patience to draw but my patience limits are not great and i want to become a good artist and some day become a good animator and make my own cartoons.
    But those dreams are so far away and i fear i will never get there.... i have depression and it's hard for me to get out of it and have confidence with thing overall in life... i guess i'll never be good... I dunno what else i can say? It feels like I’m bothering you with this comment. But anywho...i'll let you reply if you wish....if it is deemed worth it...

    Really the best thing is to practice and work for enjoyment until you gain enough confidence on your own to feel competent and comfortable with your art. Like she said it takes time to improve which might seem daunting but you neee to realize if you get really dedicated, work regularly and just stick with it the time will fly by and you'll improve faster. Even the little achievements that keep you going will all add up and that time of becoming more confident will happen sooner than you think and encourage a positive cycle with an improvement mindset. For the people that are feeling doubtful about being good enough besides what i just wrote I want you to know that when you practice regularly you'll be alot better in a certain time like in 2 months or a year than you would've thought then you believed you could've been like rn. For example when I started learning to play instruments/make music and did it regularly i was alot better and confident in a year then me starting would have expected me to be. While I was enjoying it and keeping an improvement mindset the year in some regards flew by, didn't seem so long, and by the end of it i was confident enough in myself and that snowballs over the years. This also applies to other skils like making music in general, writing, etc. Now I can't wait to immersive myself and learn about drawing and visual art to. Lastly it's good to always be learning
