The locomotive / streetcar crash may have occurred when the loco was backing up. It would explain the angle of impact with the streetcar and then the loco was moved to clear the crossing.
So, people don't know that there is a connection between the Metro Transit Blue Line and the MN Commercial Ry. which is used when new LRT trainsets are delivered. On the east side of Hiawatha at approx. 28th street you can see it on Google earth where there's a ramp for unloading the LRTs off of the flat cars.
