  • Trolley buses seemed like a logical successor to the electric streetcar. In Minnesota they had a lengthy history in Duluth. Narrated by Aaron Isaccs, this program was recorded form a Zoom session on March 21, 2022.

    I grew up in Philadelphia and we called them trackless trolleys

    Growing up in Minneapolis, where buses make noise, I was startled one time by a trolley coach in San Francisco sneaking up on me! Maybe we should bring these back. Also, my friend who lived there corrected me most emphatically: it's a trolley _coach_, he says.

      They're definitely trolleybuses in Seattle. Interesting the language is so different in different cities (see also the other comment here about them being called 'trackless trolleys' in Philly)

    I live in Southern Maine not far from The Seashore Trolley Museum. They've got a trolley bus from Boston's MBTA system,
