I imagine that the Reapers store the liquified material in the core, and replicate the machine parts based on the human genetic code. I can only imagine what the Human Reaper would look like had the Collectors succeeded. Such a great moment from my favorite video game of all time.

Its more than that. The process of making a Reaper imply that the Reaper will look like whatever species it is created from. That means the Sovereign class ship is a transformation. Probably capable of shifting appearances if said reaper wanted to.
@@porpus99 No, because the current form the Reapers take, like the Sovereign class, are based off of the physical form of the Leviathan creatures. So basically they copy whatever form works best for them, and it has to be something that functions well at a big size scale. I guess the Reapers have never found a life form that works as well as that squid-like physiology they copied from the Levithan, but they at least _try_ with each cycles most dominant creatures. That's why they're building a giant metal Reaper-Human. EDI suggests that they probably tried the same thing with the Protheans but failed. I think they'll probably fail again with the human design, but they're at least going to test it out and try.
I remember the first time I played this and saw this part. The implications were horrifying and viscerally disturbing. Some real cronenberg levels of body horror going on here.
Ancient reply from the depths of hell - No. The Human Reaper was the Mac Walters effect. Rule of cool, screw the lore. Thanks to that tryhard, we got the incredibly polarizing Mass Effect 3 ending. I hope Mac Walters is reading my comment and crying right now. He'd be dabbing tears with cash money, and trying to laugh it off again, but when this many people have said that someone is a god-awful hack, there is probably some validity to the claim. In short - you are wrong, you are doing it wrong, you don't want any deathsticks and you do want to rethink your life.
I think the developers originally intended to tell the story that every civilization, that was destroyed by the reapers, gave form to a new reaper through their bio-essence. This reaper would then look like this species. But if you think about it, it would probably have looked strange if in ME3 in the final battle there would be thousand versions of different reapers, each symbolizing an extinct civilization. So for ME3 they said that only the essence of the harvested species is absorbed and stored in reaper form. The first race that started the reaper creation (--> Leviathan) gave the reapers their only form.
Turning humans into orange liquid to made tham one big organism... This remind me of something... Something that's just keeping letting me down, letting me down, letting me down It all returns to nothing It just just keeps tumbling down tumbling down tumbling down
I find the human reaper infinitely interesting as a concept. The reapers replicate the design of their creators for practically all the main Reapers, there are slight variations but they hold to the same form. But this? This reaper is in the *shape* of a human. It seems as though the Reapers saw what humans managed to do to Sovereign and regarded them as *greater* than the Leviathans, or even themselves, and thus began making a new design based on the new apex species of the galaxy. If the reapers were not stopped, its likely that many cycles would be spent creating more and more human shaped reapers.
There are two ways I have thought about this discovery 1, The reapers make the inner core look like the race they are preserving and the outer shell looks like the leviathans in honour of their creators 2, For the first time in over a billion years the cycle has been knocked off alignment, their sovereign was defeated and they are actually getting checked. Maybe they see something in humanity that was rare, that impressed them so they were actually going to make a new reaper that for the first time would not look like a leviathan but instead on the only race to ever give them a headache. The humans
No they didn't. In the game, this sequence turns into a boss fight against the human reaper. You have no choice but to win the fight, and once you shoot all the glass tubes the reaper falls down the chasm beneath. After that, while you're evacuating the Collector base, The Illusive Man contacts you on your headset and asks you not to detonate the bombs that you've put in the ship, because the ship has basically been disabled at this point and he wants to study the Collector tech. You're given a choice at this point, and if you agree with him and disarm the bombs, then later on in Mass Effect 3 it's mentioned that Cerberus has recovered the remains of the Human-Reaper from the base and they're studying it, and I'm pretty sure late in the game when you're attacking the Cerberus spacestation HQ, there's a huge room where you can see some of the remains of the human reaper. But this only happens if you make the right decision at the end of this mission in ME2.
@@Elrond_Hubbard_1 I meant more in terms of creating reapers in the form of the species they are “assimilating”. Prior to this we hadn’t seen a reaper other than Sovereign. Some assumed that they might have a different front section inspired by the race they were made from. If I recall correctly the final cutscene from the DLC of ME2 showed reapers with different front sections. But in ME3 they all look identical to their original creator form “Leviathan”
I think it was more or less the stronger species they take the form of. Like Leviathans. And they saw humans as strong species. Been a while since I played but i'm quite sure there is some physical variation between some of the reapers. Which would suggest these were outliers that reapers created there own models of. If anyone knows more feel free to enlighten. :-)
@@TheCasualGerman I think a better explanation is they wanted to make a human Reaper to combat the galaxy because humans(Shepard) have done alot of damage against the Reapers. This could be their newest creation which is why all the rest look like Leviathans because nothing has come close to taking on the Reapers like Shepard has.
@@unknownindividual6323 nah, the devs have said that the Reaper core resembles the species from which the Reaper was made, but every Reaper is then later equipped with the shell that looks like Harbinger. So even this human Reaper would look like Harbinger if it was completed.
@@iQafa I doubt that. The human reaper would never fit in the leviathan shell especially with those arms and hands. Why make arms and hands if you're just gonna have them inside the shell?
This was, hands down, the stupidest and laziest thing Mass Effect ever did. Alone that the answer to the mystery of what the collectors are doing is simply, "I lack the data to speculate." They really should have made the Overlord, Arrival or the ME3 DLCs Omega storylines the main plot of the game and fleshed them out. People talk about the stupid ending choices to the third game. This is by far the stupidest thing to happen in this series of games. It doesn’t even make sense within the lore of the universe.
