    Conservapedia is really interesting to me because to even begin to believe the kind of stuff you find on it you have to lack an understanding of the world that i didn’t think was even possible anymore. It’s like how a medieval peasant would view reality.

    • @wister8528
      @wister8528 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      not even a medieval peasant, they probably wouldn't spend their time coming up with this shit. like imagine fucking writing that fidel castro was actually dead and some 30 y/o replaced him with such tenacity to defend this statement

      I grew up in a conservative family, and thought their way up until I was like 16ish. The entire goal of conservatism is the maintenance of the status quo, living in their own little isolated bubble, and glory worshipping authority figures. They discourage curiosity, any time you question anything, the answer is always "because that's the way things are, shut up and be grateful". If they can control everything you see, think about, care about, etc, then you never see the real world. Just the world the capitalists want you to see. It also helps that when you're white, middle class (back in the day when that existed), and Christian, you don't face any injustices from the system. In fact the system actively courts you and makes you believe that it works, because if it works for you then it must work for everyone else. I was lucky enough to go to a diverse high school and see what others went through, and have people call me out on my shitty beliefs. A lot of kids growing up in conservatism don't get that chance. They live in a white only, often times gated community. And even if they don't, suburbia has isolated us all into our own little picket fence cubicles, and society told us not to trust our neighbors. So we stay in our bubbles. So a lot of those conservatives are too old and entrenched in their ideas by the time they even hear about anything alternative to the status quo. It's sad.

    Re: Solzhenitsyn, it's also worth noting that he was a frontline officer of the Red Army when he sent the letter. He one hundred percent knew that military counterintelligence opens and reads all that stuff, usually pretty explicitly, with stamps, bureaucracy, and everything, it's normal shit in wartime, and especially frontline, conditions. So there is an idea that the letter was intentional, because our future Nobel laureate just didn't want to die in the last few months of the war, and he knew that he would come very much alive (if a bit inconvenienced) out of imprisonment. And sadly, he was right.

    Hakim: You are correct about Romney. Ish. It was a long time ago, but I think that Ted Kennedy was part of drafting it before he died. It's also worth noting that Romney was governor of Massachusetts, which is kinda toe to toe with California as far as the liberal to progressive spectrum goes. So while Romney is a Republican, he's historically had to portray himself as a moderate, at least here in Massachusetts

    Hi guys. I've been listening to your old podcasts after finding them via second thought.
    As an anarchist I've always tried to raise class consciousness around me and in my family, and I think your content are great tools to help with this so thanks' for all the work you guys do!
    I do have some personal doubts about communism, and if you have the time I had a couple of questions regarding your talks and communism in general that I hope you can answer.
    When, in the L's of former socialism, you spoke about the bad thing's people say about socialism you touched on surveillance and censorship. While I agree with what you said about the current system, I was left feeling a bit concerned because you kinda did some "what about ism". Do you think mass surveillance is acceptable or necessary in a socialist society?
    Also, I may be showing my ignorance here, but do you think the hyper centralisation and specialisation of the soviet union was right? Or do you think they should have made cities/regions more self sustainable?
    I'm concerned you didn't mention mass starvation as an "L", but if I have my history wrong I'm open to being educated. Of course I understand nothing exists in a bubble and there were many factors at play, including western interference and the geographical/geopolitical situation, so I'm interested in your opinion on these issues.
    I also have some concerns about separatists, or people who don't want to be part of a socialist society. Do you think socialism should consider those people, or are they just to be absorbed by any means or excluded? Does it necessarily need to be all encompassing? The drive to eliminate other ways of life (travelers, tribes) is one of the failings of the current system imo.
    Basically I am educating myself about communism with your help and I just want to put my mind at ease before getting my little brother involved. (I'm only at episode 11 so apologies if you've covered this stuff since). I know you guys don't speak for all the socialists in the world, but I wanted your personal take because I find your content so well put together I want to share it.
    Thanks again for the work you're doing! Keep it up!
    D.
