I’m an oboist and I make my own reeds and I think it’s so interesting to see what my bassoon friends do to make their reeds. It’s really cool to see the differences and similarities between the processes. Great video!
i guess im asking the wrong place but does anyone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid lost the password. I love any assistance you can offer me!
@Raphael Desmond thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im in the hacking process now. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
You have helped me make bassoon reeds! By reed #5 I had a GREAT reed that I am practicing on and feel I can perform on. Your method suits me fine. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!
I noticed you scored before soaking. I have always scored after soaking, right before putting the wire and twine and forming it. Does it make a difference to score dry or soaked? I imagine not, but just curious..... (Never know...) I also noticed you didn't bevel? Just curious about that. Thanks. GREAT video!
Do you hand profile reeds aswell? If so, could we see a tutorial on how to do that? My bassoon teacher says it's not needed but I'd love to learn the technique.
So sorry! I am new to working TH-cam. My measurements for wires are as follows: First to second wire = 7mm, and from the second wire to base of the reed = 5mm! Hope this helps, so sorry for the delay!
Yay, Im so glad I'm not the only one addicted to the scent of nail polish!

Awesome video!
What happens if you don’t wait long enough to form the reed after having is wrapped in the twine? Like, continue 24 hours later?
25:49 I was just learning to play that
what brand is of second machine?
Would you ever sell GSP cane?
Great video! is the turban needed?
This is a good question. I've been told it is good for gripping the reed.
I've been told that the turban had two purposes; aesthetics, and adding a weight to the end of the reed so if you drop it, it won't land on the tip
You didn’t say the measures of the wires!
I used other reeds to guesstimate the measurements, but this is a good point.

Where do you buy your cane
You can find them near lakes or rivers
Okay but is no one gonna talk about her halo nails. Looks alot like halotaco tbh.
Please don't use a landwell for shaping :( Any utility/box cutter is just as good an option, and it won't destroy your reed knife.
