These simple cake decorating ideas are perfect for anyone who just wants a beautiful cake. Learn simple and easy cake decorating techniques and create your dream cake.
You can use mayonnaise or smooth mustard to practice your writing. If you are unsure of your handwriting, you can find an example of a font you like and print it out. Then cover the sheet of paper with parchment or wax paper, so you can clearly see the lettering beneath it.
If you don't have a pastry bag, you can create simple piping designs by scooping your frosting into a resealable plastic bag and cutting off one corner. Then, frost as you would with any pastry bag. It will look similar to the round tip.

Here's how you write on cakes: Pratice with icing on parchment paper. Print out a stencil, place parchment paper over stencil and get to tracing over your stencil using icing and different piping tips. Experiment with pressure to the bag as you write and icing consistencies.

Probably because there is no instruction component. Show only gets a person so far. So the title is pretty misleading. A good how to would show someone at the very least how to load the icing into the bags, put the tips on, how to hold/brace your hand and the bag, and maybe have some tips on how to achieve different letter styles. This is pretty and fun but ultimately an un instructional video.
It's because of the title. This obviously is not a "How To" video so people (myself included) are irritated after clicking on it hoping to instructions or even just a tips on how to write on cakes.

I wish this gave more info on things like what tip to use and how much pressure to use when piping and just how to write well on a cake in general. I’m an artist and I have generally nice handwriting but when I occasionally have to write on a cake at work I’m clueless. Really wish there were some more helpful vids on here..
