- Light No Fire is the JUST announced new game from No Man's Sky veterans, Hello Games.
Sean Murray went on stage at the 2023 Game Awards to express their continued love and support for No Man's Sky while also revealing what 12 members of their team have been working on for the past few years and it is quite astonishing.
This absolutely beautiful looking game at least appears to be the result of the last 10 years of innovation and experience they have achieved at Hello Games. It is looking to be everything they have improved No Man's Sky with and so much more coming with an original, made to fit game.

This definitely has NMS dna all over it. The flying mount animation feels like getting into your ship, the under water sequence felt like a more dense NMS water area. I am absolutely in love with this idea and can't wait to see more of it next year.

This game looks incredible! I hope they do something with the water physics though! I also hope that this is more of a survival game at its core, rather than just an exploration game. Hopefully they bring food, thirst, shelter, and weather all in on it! Even if it's just a planetary based NMS, I'll still buy it at full price! Love me some HG!!!
Just imagine if very rarely, you see an NMS ship entering the atmosphere from space and leaving shortly.. that would be fantastic.
I always thought it would be cool if hello games took what they built in nms and applied that to a fantasy realm. Well here it is. I am intrigued.

although i am not a big fan of fantasy games, if this is playable in VR i am in. But the interesting part is, that they clearly said, this planet is procedurely generated and not hand crafted. And that not only means, that there could be more planets to follow, but also that this could be a base algorythm for No Man's Sky Part II with millions of planets.
Notice the different races have different swimming styles, I love the little things like this!
In my mind, this is a planet within the universe of NMS. Almost like an Eden. I hope some of the Atlas lore makes it into this game. I really hope it is playable on PSVR2.

This is a fantasy themed survival game so I doubt it ties in with NMS.
@@turboturkey7236No I think it's a Prequel to NMS, The logo implies the atlas is mid construction. It's the Orb and the bottom half of the atlas diamond.
@@sanguinetales I think that was stylistic choice. If they were going to make a NMS prequel it would probably still be space themed since that’s what that entire universe revolves around. This seems like a new universe. The fantasy aspect should have been a dead giveaway. Lol

4:53 In this shot we see a more crude house in the foreground (look at the roofing materials) contrasted with more advanced building materials in the house further on. Also the crude house has a sign that says home, and there is a particle effect just to the right with the same color as the sign lettering, leading me to believe players get to drop a building site, and it comes with a portal to port back to home whenever the player needs to. We also see an oven/forge in the foreground. Since it is with the crude house, I'll wager an oven to cook food.
One of the wonderful things Sean said was they have been working on it for 5 years. So I'm hoping 2025.I'm so stoked for this , I will buy the top teir they offer to support HG!
7:46, it looks like the rabbits are a playable race, given that the player in that shot is one of them.
This looks interesting. A world like that has a lot of potential as long as the mechanics are properly designed. I hope this has a similar gameplay loop to Valheim, because Valheim to me is the perfect blend of procedural generation and personal character growth. I would like to speculate that this planet is almost certainly within the No Man's Sky multiverse, either in the distant future or distant past (my guess is distant past, when the Atlas was stable). Also, those birds look more like giant sparrows than giant crows.
I think is the real world but post apocalyptic. We learned that ATLAS was a machine AI and everything within NMS is just a simulation. I'm almost sure that we'll find facilities where ATLAS resides or possibly have a connection.

I've been hoping for an MMO that has a fully destructible or terraformable world someday. Not clunky stuff like Minecraft, but a world like this one. Idk if it'll ever happen. Current games have this property designating system that just seems too limiting to me. I want to build a huge necromancer tower like they build in dwarf fortress.
NMS, whatever can be said about it's gameplay, allows for completely destructible terrain and up to 16000 build pieces per structure
4:52 That not only looks like building (which it makes way more sense to have building in a survival game than not), that looks like it's voxel based. That could potentially be a huge advantage to building over NMS.

As much as they've learned and proved their worth over the last decade with their dedication to NMS, are you kidding me right now with THIS trailer and people still out there going "yeah, BUT..." I'm SO IN on this world. This is the only team you should want trying this kind of project right now, day one for me.
Bottom left corner is a small hud element that you can clearly see temperature, day night cycle, and i wouldnt be surprised if the small dots are a hunger meter,

Also, did you notice the rather interesting elements in the NMS trailer just before the Light No Fire announcement?

7:38 You missed the shadowy figures with glowing eyes here. Also, notice how they seem to actively be avoiding the showing of the human character faces? There is only one glimps of a side profile in one scene but I think that this may be because the human faces might come to NMS possibly.
Due to the name and everything you showed, I feel this will take the same lore path as NMS, an overlord sort of entity that is blocking any form of technological progression on the planet, like the Sentinels do in NMS. Kind of like a Dryad.

Yup I wish it would my film department says you must have a Mac even though I don’t want to do anything other than Adobe and my parents won’t buy me a ps5 so no I’m stuck without playing it unless they port it to mac but NOTHING COMES TO MAC!
Hopefully not, they really should avoid the same mistake that Cyberpunk 2077 made. This has to be current gen only.

@@DJB01 true but looking at the trailer and seeing pretty much no game for years that comes out on ps4 and given how it took no man’s sky years to get on Xbox then even more years to come out on switch and even then there’s no expeditions multiplayer and I think settlements on switch and then it took a while to go to mac and that was with funding or help from apple I think I remember a trailer where apple official partnered with them to get the game on Mac because apple wanted game on mac BUT that’s not gunna do shit here because it’s unlikely apple will do that again. The odds that it’s gunna go to mac right away if ANY time soon or at all is slim and it’s all but a certainty it’s not coming the ps4 or last gen consoles.
It's the same engine, and now concentrated on one planet. I am pretty sure it's going to be ace. I can't wait :D - well actually I can. And I will.
The one exciting thing I saw was all the potential races we're gonna be able to play in this game

Xaine not being an Ornithologist, confirmed, as he called the bird "A huge chubby crow" which that bird could be anything, except a crow. LOL @Xaine, crows are ravens, like in Valheim, long huge beaks with short long, egg shaped heads, that bird looks more like a sparrow or finch, but at least your estimations are correct, it was huge. Haha, I thought crows were black feathers with orange beaks and ravens were very dark green with black beaks?
I am glad they have done this on there own Engine and not using Unreal Engine 5.
I'm pretty sure the camera is litterally locked onto a player who is a bunny while you're saying you don't think they are playable
I think it's a no mans sky prequel. Also since it's just one planet. I am sure even though the planet is proc gen, they will be placing handcrafted stuff all over it. This seems to be a Valhem type game but with HGs NMS DNA. that's a huge win.
I mean it has potential, I think one of the main issue with NMS is that the universe ends up being a little too big for it's own good , leading to player dillution and not being able to really hand-craft anything that people will actually visit. Like I build very cool bases and outpost but I know nobody will ever find them... I'm hoping having everyone on the same planet will lead to proper hand-crafted cities emerging and we'll end up with a gigantic sandbox for world building, more akin to a busy minecraft server. Only thing i'm a little worried is that it might mean the team is going to drop focus on NMS, which I still think is more appealing due to having an entire universe to explore. Plus i'm kinda expecting the improvements to this game to end up improving the NMS planet generation stuff too... As both share the same DNA after all. But yeah the limitations of procedural is the lack of hand-crafted, and by channeling everyone to build on the same planet you'll end up with probably the best of both worlds... A nice procedural canvas to really build amazing stuff in.
Sounds like you haven't been around for Expeditions where in quite a few players were forced to create bases on the same planet / system. Plus there are groups where people play or build together.
The visuals (not the graphics, but the scenery and character designs) remind me of the fantasy battle royale game from season 2 of Meta Runner, Tempest.

Lord of the Elder Scrolls: World of Valheim.
Very derivative and formulaic. Almost reminds me of a medieval version of Rust taking place in a Warrior cats novel. Im almost positive cloud guy is going to have something to say about it.
Just like NMS I will take the “wait and see” approach. NMS became very much a lather, rinse, repeat kind of game before the addition of player-made sanctioned PVP content. We shall see where this takes us. Will it have us saying “WoW” or will it go the way of New World?
I reserve judgement, but kudos as always to Xaine for a detailed explanation of the game - he never disappoints. You were the first person I ever followed on Twitch & I will always support you!

I'm keeping my hype in check. I'll like this game if it is not a mile wide and an inch deep. It'll need challenging/dangerous things to do solo or with others, that would help player progression when conquered. Furthermore, the content cannot fall victim to the procedural generation issue of being too repetitive.
This gives me the feel that NMS has been a beta test for this new game. So many of the animations, concepts, and even the art style feels so similar to nms. And thats not a bad thing. It should hopefully lead to much more polished game experience.
Did not see one thing you do not see in any other MMO. Flying Mounts, Yep Guild Wars 2, Gliders, Yep BOTW, riding mounts, Every other MMO.... Sorry, but not one thing in their preview made me say...WOW....
No Man's Enshrouded/Valheim/Skyrim amalgam. Looks amazing, BUT if it's PURELY MMO I won't be interested. NMS is the perfect balance as it is. The min spec requirements should be interesting though.
But this can be the New the Elder scrolls online for me and a New wow game.
Really hoping that this one isnt an empty wasteland simulator.
I'll be keeping a eye on it but I do have a few specific requirements for my time to be invested one example would be a quest line with voice acting otherwise I can see it getting boring easily.
Sadly that example is highly unlikely, I think they're too small of a team to get voice acting done, unless ofc it's a relatively concise storyline, would be so cool
@@XainesWorldI don’t think it’s gunna happen but I wouldn’t rule it out after all the last campfire had a fully narrated campaign that said no man’s sky doesn’t so I don’t think it’s gunna happen but maybe they just aren’t going back and adding voices to old characters as to ruin people’s perception of them or because that’s not gunna have enough return on investment but maybe there will be voices here it’s unlikely but you never know I hope it does though

@@maryhinge40 I want to be clear. I have over 1 thousand hours in NMS but that's only because crashes corrupting saves and having to start over. So stability is definitely a concern.
Edit: I double checked, I have 3700 hours in NMS lmao. I bet most of it is searching for freighters...

That aside, I'm also concerned about this game suffering from a lack of depth. I really hope there's a story and an actual point to the game. It looks beautiful and fun to explore, but I'd like something more than just the beauty. At the very least, make exploring & surviving treacherous a la Minecraft.

I do think there will be a story. The Atlas-like thing at the end looks interesting, at the very least looks like there will be lore to find like NMS. My theory is that this might be the world that Nada created, where we can choose to place Artemis. Hence the Atlas-like being, created by Nada to govern this world. The ARG and NMS itself made multiple references at how we can't be too sure the real world we live in isn't also a simulation just like NMS. This means Light No Fire might be a simulation within a simulation within a simulation.... 16 16 16 kzzt-
Happy I'm not the only one who looked at that red glass ball and thought of the Atlas. What if this is some No Man's Sky prequel and it's like a proto-atlas.
Interested in the gameplay around 7:40, if you look again there's shadowy beings watching our adventurers, leads me to believe that there may be a 'light is safe' mechanic.
If you look at the 7:38 part of your video on the bottom left they have a mini HUD. If you look at the top icon it looks like wheat, that could be your hunger bar. It does change based on your biome though. Also it has a cold bar, and probably a warm bar too, maybe it changes on the biome you are in. I def think this has survival mechanics for hungry and cold/hot like in Valheim
that symbol at the top is definitely the biome symbol since it changes depending on where they are
This trailer really stresses why NMS needs to leave the old gen behind in the another update or two. Look how much they can do, when they can take advantage of the newer hardware..
If they take the lessons learned from NMS, this game is gonna come out the gates swinging.

for me this more of the same (better graphics) on a single planet. As a day one player of NMS I want to be excited about this, however right now I'm conflicted. Lets see what the future of this looks like before making further judgement.
I mean it’s not no man’s sky it’s better generation but I do see fantasy elements in the game as well rabbit people never would work in no man’s sky it dose here I do think they’ll be a new story so that’s nice but I don’t know. Boats being a thing is nice different as well. The markets and species of people look cool you can tell it’s fantasy not just no man’s sky but better generation and a single world

I was hooked as soon as i saw the building animations.
Overlay NMS Trailer music it matches up with the flash points
1. I hope this is a possible prequel to NMS or an origin of the Atlas story
2. I can only imagine how awesome the variety in mounts will be if they implement the same variety of ships in NMS. Just imagine how many different classes of mounts they'd have, then each body part would be categorized and have a solid 10 possible varieties of each body part unique to that class of mount.
3. Armor customisation and combat seems way improved upon.
4. I wonder how they'll handle the shared world? I hope they have a beta test for the public to join for say a week, so they can figure out how exactly they'll tackle a single planet where everyone is. Nms will crash if enough people are at the same place, even the Nexus limits how many people are in your lobby at once. What about mega structures? Or will they extremely limited how much you can build in the overworld? These are the questions that go through my mind.
5. I wonder if there will be a Nexus equivalent in this game? Like a big castle city or something. I hope they dont just do some sort of magical dimension where lots of players gather, that would be rather boring in my opinion. I like the idea of when you're out there deep away from everyone else that you truly are far away and not just a quick zip to other players.
This is a dream game for me. A multiplayer sandbox game that’s on a planet you can fully explore with literal continents and diverse flora/fauna. Can’t wait for this!!

The problem so far with the trailer is no enemies. Dogfights and having sentinels in NMS is what helps break up the monotony of simply exploring. There needs to be a reason to forge and keep safe other than "the environment."
