- In the 1970s (and decades following), TV producer Norman Lear touched the lives of millions with culture-altering sitcoms like "All in the Family," "The Jeffersons" and "Good Times," pushing the boundaries of the era and giving a primetime voice to underrepresented Americans. In an intimate, smart conversation with Eric Hirshberg, he shares with humility and humor how his early relationship with "the foolishness of the human condition" shaped his life and creative vision.

"I am the peer of whomever I'm talking to."
Teach that to your kids.
"I am the peer of whoever I am talking to."
Brilliant.
I have to keep reminding myself;
the 'E' is for Entertainment, the 'E' is for Entertainment, the 'E' is for Entertainment.
But I wish it stood for Education.
Such a wonderful man .
I really enjoyed this one .
My mother passed away when I was 8, and some idiot said to me: "God must have needed her with him."
the first of many foolish moments of the human condition. I can relate, Mr. Lear.
I liked the interview. But I did not like the fact that Eric Hirshberg was referring to Norman's life as it has already passed. Yes he is old but he is not dead and his life still goes on.
what a fascinating man
Awesome man!!! Norman Lear is the da' man!!!
The truth is that "Hip Hop" has caused much more negative impact than positive impact.
It created a generation of youths who think it's ok to be disrespectful to women and police.
Rap has definitely done that.
Pretty sure someone has said the same thing about every new form of music from ragtime onwards, except maybe folk and country. Rock, punk, jazz, funk etc were all vilified because of ignorance. If you honestly think all hip hop and rap is the same and that every artist in the genre have the same ideas you haven't followed it at all. Listening is a prerequisite for criticism. Also, hip hop doesn't require quotations, it's a real thing.
@@michaelhall5429 beautifully said. So much sub genre's within rap alone.
@@michaelhall5429nope
That was really nice
"Claire. With everything you think about what I may have done and everything you've done, can you get your fingers close enough when you consider the size of the planet and so forth to measure anything I may have done to anything you may have done?"
We hear you now, young man.

He also produced "One Day At A Time" and "Sanford And Son".
Different strokes, the facts of life.
What a phenomenal man and a pleasure to listen to, it's a shame they got this clown to interview him. He ruins what could of been a legendary Ted talk with this man.

hi
a life of meaning is often pretty words for those with enough wealth and support to actually chase their dreams tho, chasing dreams another load of tosh as the majority of people are in reality slaves nowadays as we all know. sure, maybe we can kid ourselves that serving that hamburger is providing nourishment or smiling at the moaning cliente is good for business, whatever, come on, how many people reallly believe they have a life of meaning? ok, some for sure, people working in health etc but not 90% of working class folk :)
