    Subdivision for Renderman = Object network > Hair generater node parameter window gear icon > edit parameter interface > Render properties > Renderman 24 geometry properties > Add Subdivision. After that you will see the new Renderman parameters. Check on Render polygon as subdivision (Renderman). Thanks for your nice tutorial.

    There isn't that many Houdini tutorials for long hairs, so this is all good :) I wish we had this 3 or 4 years ago lol
    I didn't really understand why do you prefer to adjust width on primitives rather than points ? Point width should act like a pscale... I just try on some hairs, I'm getting the same thickness from root to tips (not nice), whereas with points I can preserve the fading on tips, that would explain the thick tips we can see on your render (am I the only one noticing that ? x) )

    Hi Arvid. Thank you so much for all that great tutorials. Probably could you teach us something about how to rendering volumes and particles with houdini and Renderman?. Thank you so much again ! Steph

    Just did a test, and you can actually add render parameters to your hairgen node, drop down to the renderman options and add a "Render Polygons as Subdivision" toggle and any options you want to smooth out the jaggedness instead of resampling your guides or hair. This should save you from having to rework all your frizz settings.

    I use RM in Blender, but very easy to adapt from your Hou vids when applicable. would be great seeing more RM vids for sure :]

    Thanks for tge amazing work .. definitely more houdini grooming tuts would be amazing also if you can show a run down of that third party grooming tool and why you use it over the default

    How do you prevent hairs from being interpolated so they grow inside of the head GEO eventhough I use partening lines and I have a solid Skin VDB?

    Maya and Houdini are these two programs interchangeable or are they complementary?

    • @arvidurs
      @arvidurs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Odd question. The Software itself is obviously completely different. so no nothing is interchangeably.
      If you are talking about Lama (Renderman) - they both work very similar in each software.

    Hello. Thank you for the amazing tutorial. I have a question. What is the best way to export hairs to Maya? I mean I tried alembics but the scene gets really heavy.

    Rman better than Arnold? More flexible, faster, "professional"?

    • @arvidurs
      @arvidurs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rman has different integrators which makes it more flexible. Both are professionally used in big productions

    Hey Arvid, is Houdini better and more efficient than XGen? I still wonder if I should switch to Houdini for grooming, cuz it's so learning expensive.

      I’m enjoying it quite a lot - but which one is better? Can’t answer that. I’m sure both can achieve the best results

    Hey Arvid thanks for making these videos I’ve learned so much. Im currently running into a problem where I try to to simulate the hair and render it in Arnold. It seems like everything works ok but then when I export Arnold freezes when “cooking op”. Arnold only freezes when I try to export/render the sequence. Not when rendering single frames. any help would be appreciated ! Thanks ! Just subbed 👍

    • @arvidurs
      @arvidurs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hm hard to say what's going on. It might be something to do with the curves not translating properly. Maybe try with a handful of hair first and see if that works

    • @Areaeees
      @Areaeees 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@arvidurs thanks! I will be trying that today! It would be awesome if you could do a video on simulating guides and getting hair to react dynamically. Love your videos.

      @@arvidurs I was able to solve the issue by caching out the generated hair , and then bringing it back in. Works perfectly now! Thanks for your grooming videos. Really helpful.

      you might be missing a couple of attributes, but yeah, technically it should be the same. curves are curves
