  • Having worked with the GY-HM200 for several weeks, in real-world situations, I am totally impressed with this camera! It makes my life easier and I enjoy shooting with it. You need to get to know its ways and understand how to get the most out of the GY-HM200. For shooting HD or 4K this camera is one I intend to use for high-end, quick moving acquisition, when it would be impossible, difficult, or dangerous to work with a bigger camera.

Beautiful footage! I have owned a video production company since 1984, and almost the entire time I have been a Panasonic fan-boy to no end. I've decided to make the move to JVC and see how it works out. Your footage looks awesome and definitely sold me on this camera. As a matter of fact, I bought one today! What's really awesome is JVC is doing a promotion right now on the GY-HM170 for $1,295.00 with a free XLR audio handle and a FREE $100.00 JVC shotgun mic. Sweet deal. Thanks for posting and keep up the good work.

I have really love the way you do work with it. I hope to talk to you more about my JVC HM100. I have got a number of challenges while working with it.

These are great videos your uploading on the JVC , i am getting more and more interested in this camera.i'm using a panasonic HD consumer camera just now for my little videos i make when i'm out in the wilds of Scotland but i want to move up to a 4k prosumer camera and this seems to tick all the boxes apart from its still a little large for me to hike up the hills with but its light as far as i know.Great quality on you-tube so the raw footage must be fantastic on a 4K screen.Atb Eddie.

Thanks for the video, any chance of seeing what the higher gain settings look like in low light, particularly human faces?

What F stop were you at for the night gain tests? (I'm told the lens is pretty soft wide open.)

I need help, I started using this camera about 2 months ago works great...but I noticed the last 2 times I used it i'm having real trouble in low light, even if its just slightly dark in the room or outside....if there is no direct fixed lighting its barley usable. faces and everything are black, and its even worse when zooming in..... PLEASE how can I fix this problem.

What audio setup are you using in this video? You have 100% no wind noise! What mic are you using and cover?

    Rick,
Thanks for posting. Not much out there on this cam, and I am in the process of deciding which new cam to buy.
It's great that u were able to use a 2nd HM200, showing off even more footage.
Two questions - with any previous cams u have used, can u compare the low light capabilities to the HM200? Also, what card did u use to record 4K, and how did it perform?

tcmultimedia Hi - I would say the low light is better than I expected - as the GY-HM200 does not have a large chip. This low light performance doesn't compare to big sensor cameras, however I'm getting very acceptable results with 6db and 12db of gain. The card - I used is a Kingston SDHC/SDXC UHS-I U3 which have proved to be very reliable and affordable. Cheers, Rick

Your honest opinion, how is this camera walking around? Just bought a shoulder mount doc style 720/1080 camera for filming doc style shoots. I'll be testing it out soon. Is the HM200 a good walk around or is jello / rolling shutter bad? That's my biggest concern with the camera.

Rick, I own a PXW-X70 Sony. It shoots 1080p, and the image is terrific, but the promised 4k upgrade is $500.00 US, and the 4K is only 4-2-0 at 60bits---even a lower bit rate than the AX100, a consumer 4k camera. Frustrating.
So, having recently purchased a gy-ls300, I'm considering selling the Sony and purchasing the hm200.
They are in many ways similar cameras and meant to do similar things: run and gun, so to speak.
So, to summarize, it's pay Sony's 500 USD extortion fee for the 4k that should have been there to begin with, or sell the x70 and purchase..something else for run and gun, etc.
Right now one of the sellers here in the US have the HM170 for sale with a free upgrade that includes the XLR connectors and top handle of the HM200. That's tempting.
I'm between a rock and a hard place. I'd love to have 150 bps 4k--but I love the 1" sensor of the X70 and the way it functions.
    Any comments or advise?

Hi Can someone please help me with this issue? When i shoot in 25p and set the shutter speed to 1/50, it forms running bands background? What is the right shutter speed setting for 25p? and its it better to shoot progressive or interlaced?

It has been two years now, are you still using the JVC GY-HM200 or have you sold it like most reviews I have read on this camcorder that the low light and picture quality is trash!

The GMY 600 is way better and it does not even cost that much. The 600 is also light weight 5.7 pounds. Much better sensor, much better zoom, and more.
