+MrArt69 If I am right they only have the 535d (no 530d). The lower power is maybe due to the emission and /or to the lower cetane index for they diesel fuel. I think it is 45 or 48 minimum in the states where as it is 55 in Europe. Of course premium diesel fuel are better, up to 60. I am not 100% sure that the cetane index explain the power difference.
In Europe there is a 258hp 530d and a 313hp 535d .... in think in the States there is only the 530d .... same engine I believe but larger turbos on the 535d
I've had some track time with both the 535d and the 535i. Yes, the 535i does handle better, but you will only notice that at the limits which I doubt the vast majority of the cars buyers will ever reach so the fuel savings and the extra torque from the diesel makes it worth it.
Paras Kalra I wish any long term owner of this car the best of luck coming up with $4000 when it's time to replace the diesel particulate filter at 100k miles.

The 535d is almost definitely a better cost proposition than the 535i. Not only will you earn some (if not all) of the difference back in fuel savings, but the 535d will hold its $1500 premium over the 535i on resale, if not even increase that premium since diesels tend to hold their value better than gasoliners.

Americans ahahhahah, in Europe 50% of cars sold are diesels and most of the executive salons are diesels, a diesel has a much smoother ride then a petrol at the motorway as to get to the power in a petrol you have to rev it hard and bleed your ears, but with a diesel you get power from 1900rpm to 2500rpm, also the torque is good for effortless overtaking. Most people go for the 520d, 184hp which is enough in any reasonable situation yet returns around 50mpg (60+ according to BMW). And no one buys a new BMW and sells it after 3 years, people do that with boring, cheap, standard cars like Hondas and Toyotas.

Daniel Costello what...?
Still can't beat Audi's TDI engine.
Actually you will find most Audi tdi engines are pulled right out of a golf. And they really are not as refined as the BMW's
BMW kicked their a$$.
Gentlemen, have none of you seen what that TDI engine did at Le Mans? Seriously.
RickyTomatoes
lmfao, seriously? Le Mans?
vincentas Go on...let's hear what's so funny.
Some one buy me this car😢
What's insulting is a car reviewer who can't back up his car, lol.
Ok
Why does BMW style every car the same, they all look so similar...
so does Audi and Mercedes. It's just like that
+Brownie true. but that didn't answer my question
So that you instantly know by just glancing at it that you're looking at a BMW. Just brand identity; their cars more or less look like a "family."
Leo |-/ hmm yeah that makes sense... I would think their richer customers wouldn't like their 6 figure + car looking almost like a $40k regular grocery getter
Would u recommend the 2013 or 2014 5 series?
I want the "D"
