- In this Microsoft Access tutorial, I'm going to teach you how to open a form and go to a new record and a specific field. Then as a bonus, I'll show you how to set the description text of your contact form equal to the first 50 characters of whatever notes are typed in, if the user doesn't enter a description. Cool stuff.

Couldn't be better timing, I'm coming to the end of my first database project for my business and needed this for a couple of forms that I wanted to open as a new entry but still be able to select existing records. Thank you 👍
Glad it was helpful!
I love your videos. Always informative, usually relevant, and whimsical enough not to put you to sleep. I keep waiting for the next Star Trek reference...
Thanks. I'll do my best to make it so...
Very Helpful & Improving for Data Entery Video.
Lot of thanks Sir!
You are most welcome
Thank you!!! I love your videos, you have helped me so much!
I'm so glad!
These are always great stuff!
Glad you think so!
Thanks - great courses and great tech help!
Welcome
Endless learning, brilliant channel!!!
Thanks
First off, thank you tenfold for the help. We just discovered Microsoft Access for the company I work for, I was tasked with building a database that we can use, well, here I am a week in and a website membership and HOURS spent watching your videos!!!
My question is, is there a way to go to a blank new 'VehicleF' I want a button on our menu to add a new vehicle to our fleet, then I can replicate this for trailers, heavy equipment and mowers too! I hope my question is detailed enough, I think you should understand what I am trying to achieve! :)
This will help me with 2 logs that I hadn't been back to in a couple of weeks: mileage (critical for taxes) and refuel. I had stopped looking for a proper method to jump to the *end of record set* to continue it on. Of which, I have the default date for a new record, set to use the last record, so I can easily enter the older data by changing just the numerical day.
Glad it helped!
@@599CD it will, just a matter of *doing* it. 🤔🤪🤫😎
Hi Richard that was very interesting in this video great steve
Glad you enjoyed it
Dir Mrs Richard, l wait to your videos everyday. You have a good way to make every thing easy, please keep that way.
I have question about your beginner level 2 please. Why you stopped ?! Sorry if I'm bothering you.
Mrs. Richard? Oh no... I'm definitely a Mr. LOL - I'll be releasing videos from Beginner Level 3 soon.
Hi there. I need help please. I need to select the new record on a subform where data will be filled in. My form is already. Any suggestions please. Thanks
599cd.com/ask
Cant get this to work. The Single subform opens and looks like a new record can be entered. But Neither maintableID or the subtableID fields have data. So the new sub record is not linked to anything and generates an error when I try to close the subform. Ive gone over this tutorial many times and still no luck. Does this tutorial only work if the subform is continuous?
Shouldn't matter.
@@599CD I agree, however it does not work. The sub record created does not have the foriegn key of the parent record.
