Hey man I don't know if you will see this comment but I watched the entire series of the Wakhan Corridor videos. It was beautiful. I followed very closely with google maps on the side. I am definitely going, I know it. I have been working, saving and still finding the right time to go. This time next year I will definitely be there. Can you please share some more details on your camera equipment - what did you use. I want to buy a good camera this year and start learning. But any other tips you can offer that will be great! Cheers from South Africa
Hey brother thanks so much for your time and interest in watching my videos. I don't recommend the camera gear I was using in my Afghanistan series, which I believe was only a Nikon D5600. In my South America series, I'm using a GoPro 11 for talking and street vlogging and then only using a Nikon D7500 (only on a tripod) to film myself hiking in the mountains. I don't know too much about cameras so I haven't felt the need to invest too much in them. But, from my experience GoPros are great for vlogging as they are small and discreet, have decent built in audio, and great video stabilization. Best of luck to you in all of your travels. My only advice is to monitor the security situation up until the moment you decide to enter the Wakhan. A lot has changed since I went in 2019 but I imagine you'd still be alright. Have fun!
Another great video and damn it on the pick pocket! I think your attitude is very healthy about the experience and as long as we reflect then we live and learn. The footage of the town and the festivities captured the culture nicely. Oddly enough it was in Ecuador where I met a well traveled old fella who was a "retired pic pocket" and he said anyone taking pics or recording something is always a great target. Next best was when someone was trying to have a broken up basic conversation with a vendor. He left me with two simple tips: First to wear dark sunglasses so they can't determine where you are looking and second use the good old decoy wallet. He had one with theatre money and fake credit cards. Even after talking to him I never really paid much attention but seeing your video reminds me to be aware.
