It's a traditional dance, they were probably part of a group that focuses on promoting and keeping alive their culture. Here in Ecuador there are a lot of indigenous groups and older people try to keep our roots alive by doing such activities in ordinary days. Those dances are usually done in festivities.
Hornado is the best with llapingachos which is those potato patties you saw there, and adding some aji is just icing on the cake.
