I Got Kicked Out Of The Mountains Of Ecuador 🇪🇨

  • After all of the pain and struggling it took to get to this point, my entire trip was over in just a few sentences. Thanks to the endless bureaucracy that plagues Latin America, with Ecuador being no exception, my 5 day hike to Cotopaxi was ended after 2 through no fault of my own. When I started this hike just outside of the village of Papallacta, I stopped by the control station in El Tambo in attempt to avoid these types of problems. Although the building was closed with nobody in sight, I quickly met up with some authorities out on the trail. One man asked me to pay $5 and sent me on my way with no written permission. After 2 grueling wet and windy days hiking alone through the Ecuadorian highlands, I learned that this man did not do his job. Because of his laziness, or perhaps his ignorance, I was forced to leave with a random person in the middle of nowhere upon reaching the next checkpoint. If you plan to hike the Ruta Del Condor, be sure to officially register and get written permission at the El Tambo control to avoid having the problem I did. Cotopaxi here I come, but from a different angle now! 🇪🇨

I would be a bit careful with your criticism of "bureaucracy" in Latin America. As you know, your own country left a trail of blood in several countries of the region, contributing immensely to their plight.

You are absolutely right. Please tell me exactly what I as a tourist had to do with that and why anyone should represent their government based on where they were born.

@@backcountryclint Maybe stop dripping with hypocrisy for a start? Maybe take your role as a "tourist" a bit more seriously? Maybe understand a bit of history before you put pen to paper? You have wonderful trekking vlogs regardless and I appreciate your content.

@@humbertsmith8864 How have I been hypocritical? Was I in any way disrespectful to this guy? What's my role as a tourist? Did you miss the part where I stopped by the control office at the beginning of the trek and nobody was there? And how I talked about a random guy who said he worked there took $5 from me instead of doing his job and costing me the trek? If my role as a tourist is to get scammed than I have played my part many times all over the world. You're making a bigger deal out of it than I did. I just called it what it was and moved on with my life. What the U.S. government did to these countries decades before I was born was horrific and that's easy to admit. But the guy in the video didn't even know where I was from. Seems like you just want to start drama for no reason.

@@humbertsmith8864how about you just let my man do his thing and explore the world. You’re being overly critical cause he shared his experience and you are bringing up things that he had no part in whatsoever. It’s wild to me that people are wildly critical of Americans sharing their experiences in other countries yet support whatever misinformed bullcrap is spread on every news platform. Just be appreciative that he’s trying to show people the world and sharing certain experiences along the way along with amazing content.
P.s. love the shorbirds hat bro!

@@nateshort3949 How about you allow comments, perspectives, constructive criticism. He's a grown man and can handle it. Responsible tourism and a grasp of history are common themes in travel vlogs. I generally enjoy his content.
