I know a lot of people are liking the silence but for me a vocal commentary would make it superb. that's just me. I think your videos have taught me that I learn from speech easier than from text!
Thanks I might start talking a bit on some soon. Still have to deal with background noises of the city and being less anonymous ( never wanted to be a youtube personality) . Thanks for the feedback
@@avrilcadabra i agree. T'would be nice to hear you read the words while they're up on the screen. Perhaps a unidirectional mic would help cut out the city noise ... .
@@avrilcadabra ooh, I just had an idea that may involve lots of extra work, so I have no expectations. But if yer ambitious, collaborators could read the script as the voice over track. Then it wouldn't be your voice, and if the voice changed from time to time, it wouldn't be a singular personality.
Last week i get my neutron and watched your tutorials and learned a lot ( i'm new in modular world and i liked it a lot)!! thanks for the uploads!!! Your vids are good like they are!! have a nice evening
Bought the Neutron as a learning tool to get me away from the preset surfing I do when I use soft-synths. Yours is the first channel I've found that really walks me through the process of logically patching this thing. Much appreciated. I'd prefer a bit of voice over, but silence is better than wallpaper music.
Thanks, I could not find any videos about the patchbay either. Neutron is about as far from a soft synth as you can get. I still enjoy doing sound design on digital synths but can feel like a deer in the headlights with all the options available.
Thanks for this new neutron tips (new, I'm 4 years late... :^) I'd rather prefer silence, because i regularly stop the video to get time to read your explanation. And also beecause silence helps me focus on the neutron sound.
Silence is golden! Thanks for the tutorial I’m still a bit confused as to what the difference between slew and glide is but I’m sure once I start patching this should become clearer
Thanks. Glide is what pitch would sound like through slew. On the Neutron glide is only activated from legato playing. You can use slew on anything though, it will round off the edges on a square wave LFO for example
yes, the silence allows one to focus on the text and the knob settings..... silence is good, without silence songs become drones. subbed your channel...... this will help me be a better Neutron patcher, and become familiar with "eurorack signal flow"....
Thanks Paul. Should be lots of Neutron stuff get through. Have learned a lot about eurorack myself making these videos. Few more neat tutorials videos still to come.
I enjoyed this video. I'm finding it really hard to make the Neutron 'musical' although it is definitely interesting and I feel like I'm learning much more about synthesis than if I was using a Model D or Crave! Just need to keep going through your videos until it clicks I guess. Thanks so much! (And if you still want to know ... silence is best! I pause the video quite often anyway!)
Silence is best as has been agreed upon here in the comments. I would love to hear you speaking your instructions though, it can be hard to follow along having to look back and forth in order to read the next instruction.
Great video. Try unplugging the Multi out 2 and plugging VCO 1 out into VCO 2 in, then turn the balance to Osc 2 for some very interesting gliding FM effects. Peace :-)
great video, a lot of useful tips, I like the silence, but sometimes the text in the video is too fast. what exact mode in thw 2/0 firmware are talking about?
Thanks I am trying to improve the length of the text each time I make a new video. With out me watching the video I believe the feature is Autoglide. Each oscillator has that option in the 2.0 software.
Thanks for the tutorials. I was wondering what that function was for, and thought it was covered by other knobs. Glad I wasn't too far wrong. Also, in a joking kind of way, I need to ask if you're allergic to detuned oscillators?
Personally, I'd love to hear you read the words while they're up. Also is there a way to speed up the slew to audio rates so we could, say, slew the corners off a square wave sound to turn it into a ramp up saw wave sound?
That might be the best way to go, I have rounded the corners off square lfo's , but audio rate slew is out of my realm, I imagine you'd need an oscilloscope to even check
I think maybe some really low key background noise would be helpful. Silence in my headphones does weird things to my ears. Thank you for the videos. They have been immensely helpful.
thanks for another understandable tutorial in an easily digestible chunk! silence is a good way not to get distracted from the topic at hand. some of your instructions go by too fast for me though.
Thanks. Rainer. Have tried my best to slow them down in future videos. I also started including a link to patch library so you can see all the exact knob positions
Cool, learned a lot about the slew today. Silence is cool, more focused. Could you copy the text into the description, too? Would be nice to follow when I couldn't decide to watch the cables or to read the text... ;)
Good video thanks. Even better than silence would be verbal instructions instead of having to read the text on screen. Then I can look at my neutron while listening to instructions. May be worth pointing out, if the tuning lock is set to on (range octave LED is flashing), in this patch slew will not slide notes.
Also in terms of promoting your channel, a woman's voice giving tutorials on synths is rare, other channels are almost all men! So it's bound to draw in more viewers to your channel if you do voice over.
I spoke a little on my filter sweep February video. I am not the clearest speaker. I overthink but I often wonder if it would help or hurt the channel. Thought it is not doing so well lately anyway. Decisions Decisions
@@avrilcadabra I had a listen, your voice communicates calmness and clarity of thought, which is exactly what you want in a tutorial. I think it's great. What really counts on youtube is uniqueness and we can only do that by being ourselves completely. I might be wrong but maybe you can try a voiceover video and see how it goes? I have noticed most people's early videos start out pretty casual but they get better over time. I reckon it could be great. But other people seem to like the silence so I could be way off!
Thanks so much. There are definitely some moments when I can say. Hey listen right now to this bit. And describe something while its playing. Which I can't do while talking but aside from that. Talking would be better. I think most people watch on phones too. I honestly don't know if people make the patches or just like to get ideas or just hear a neutron doing stuff. Probably a combination of the 3. Some people are just here for the music. TH-cam is meant to be implementing multiple audio streams. If they do I can have with or without narration
Hey avrilcadabra just off Bo's site and thought I would pop over and take a look at yours. Straight away the Neutron pops out of the page brilliant. So how have you found it? I have looked several times at it but the DFAM keeps raising its head. Oh decisions, decisions. Going to look at some more of your stuff after this one and as for silence, just gives us time to prepare for the next sound. No problems as far as I am concerned.
Chris
I like the silence. Really calming
Great video. To your question, silence is fine for me.
Thumbs up! Silence for sure...for a tutorial, I like the fact that the only sound is what I'm learning the device can do.
I agree. 👍🏻
Silence is golden, thank you so much for the sick tutorial

Another great tut! Silence is good for me. It's easier to tell when there's instruction vs. demonstration.

It is a really neat sound!
Awesome video, and keep the silence
Have kept the silence in the newer videos. Thanks for the feedback!
Silence is great! Keep making this stuff! Really helps Neutron-havers :-)
The Neutron was the first synth I ever bought.
Almost sounds like a Unison Detune at times in this vid!
Another great tutorial - much appreciated.
Oh good job you did see this one
more to try .. gonna be busy .. Thanks ..... the videos are perfect as they are ..

Love the video! Personally I like the silence.
Some cool ideas! Some of the sounds are like the mating call of a Clanger (70's UK kids' TV reference)
Aussie here. Clanger mating will have to remain a mystery!

Sorry for the late reply, just start with simple patches to make it musical, it's quite a good synth even without using the patch bay.

Can you do a vid on fun neurobasses
I had a look at some Serum videos on Neurobass. I Don't think it would be very effective on an analogue synth. Correct me if I am wrong.
+1 for the silent gaps from me and it really pisses off the wife!
I'm learning lots from your videos btw 😎
Thanks loved doing the slew one!
Can you cycle filter sweeps with slew (leaving envelope and lfo open for other stuff) ?
You can put some signal through slew and send that to cutoff. That's usually going to be an lfo or envelope or s&h though
@@avrilcadabra Thanks !
i was waiting for the SoupDragon to appear
Ok I finally looked up this clanger business. They do sound exactly like it lol
Narration would be better as the music would distract from the sounds. Thanks for the videos :)
I use the arrows to skip through sentences so silence is fine.
Great video but your txt goes too fast for me to read
Leave the silence or add an audio comment here or there like "eeww" , or
"that was cool" , or
"now watch this" .
Clangers lol
Bloody Clangers. I actually had to go watch the show after all the comments.
Silence please!
No backing tracks please leave it silent!
