The fear is not from the technology itself, but on how people use it. you can use a knife to cut fruits or harm a person. In the end, every technology is built or used is the reflection of the person who built it or used it.

I've watched Harari having conversations with these so-called big shots in tech and AI: Zuckerberg, Fei-fei Li, now Huawei CEO. None of them can match Harari's intelligence and mind. They just talk round and round about cliches (i.e. people are kind by nature; technology generally does more good than bad; people start out being afraid of a new tech but later they learn it's good at all, etc etc) without realizing they are talking like a teenager mind in front of a mature mind like Harari. We need more far-sighted sharp minds in tech, folks!

The algorithm which was used to see the new youtube video might be similar to the algorithm of promoting healthy behavior, but it bases on a completely different logic.
A deeper insight is the algorithm on the advertising application designed to fit the simple needs of human beings which were developed in the last millions of years, or you can say the sin of humanity. However, the algorithm of promoting healthy behavior based on the needs of humanity for the future who we want to be.

6:24 this sentence worried me the most.
He says that technology is inherent good. Therefore it could be argued, that it needs an evil attempt to be missuesd.
I would argue, that technology simply is foremost. It can be used for good or bad. But it is and it will take influence, maybe even not anticipated and in the best hopes it could do very harmful things.
By saying that technology is good, he puts a lot of the worrying to the side. But by seeing, that is you must be more careful..

@@alles_moegliche73 I can't tell why the ceo is so less engaged nor why the interviewer is the way she is or what buzz words were used.
Harrais view is quite grimmer when you look at his other interviews and talks.
He says, the working poor already is getting exploited. But at least they were needed in some sort of sense for their work power.
But through AI there will be a new class, the useless. Automation will create big shifts.
He talks about many aspects, but in this talk it made kinda sense to me, that he limited his message.
If Hararis worst fears become true, you won't need to worry about poor getting exploited for work. The poor won't have anything to offer anymore worth exploiting...

If you remove so many of the jobs with AI and automation, what are the bored, restless people without any purpose going to do? History answers that question, so the antidote is to control and suppress the jobless masses. In the past they were occupied building pyramids. Those with power, know this too, so obviously they have a plan. Just not shared with us yet! How "useful" would adapted bio-tech be in this future scenario....

I have no idea as to what are these 2 saying. All I know is that we have tendency to romanticize our new technologies. Let's not forget that it doesn't change the fact that we are Humans and that New Sciences and Technologies come with very nasty "side effects."

Something bothering about Prof. Harari is where he comes from. I like the way he analyses things but I really wonder if he is truly a believer in truth, I wonder why such an enlightening icon name should appear next to the imagination of Israel I have in mind ? He could have chosen his name association to any university he liked due to his publicity. Are you really talking about something new or you are risen up because Netahnyaho believes if you are good scientifically people should forget about some aspects of your past cruelty ? Your security there my friend depends on large technological imbalance. You yourself are a conflict of interest between truth and technological imbalance .

My AI colleagues tell me that people's' imagination is far ahead of the technology and this is not even the first time this happens for AI. Me, I do not know, but I tend to listen to experts. Harari is an historian.

Technology is how human intelligence is most strongly manifested. This conversation is primarily about the nature of the singularity. The Prof.’s has always said that he isn’t anti-tech but simply balancing out the conversation from Silicon Valley - I think these conversations are - especially this one, since unlike a conversation (that I would between one of my other favorite authors, Ray Kurzweil) like this includes one of the power players whose opinion - formed by, luckily, more than Trump’s horrifying, essentially Luddite (although that trend did begin with the ban on stem cell research and the lack of scientific literacy is the reason that is allowed to continue - why if I get burned badly here I am fucked, while for example as a Wired article like two years ago, in Europe hospitals don’t even have burn units given the use of stem cells).

Harari feeds on fear. There's a lot of fear around. He found a tricky way to get publicity. He's very intelligent.

I think it can help if we're all working on becoming better humans, so if the technologies will develop anyway we will at least have the best possible handling. And in case we are already all connected to some superbrain collecting data we can put in more good ideas and thoughts, right.

When one really manages to see something from the bottom of the abyss, the warning has also seen in the back of your mind. When artificial intelligence or government really understands the bottom of the mentality of some group of humans or human being, then part of that human being will have changed the observer. at that higher level hatred and resentment and prejudice vanish. we live in the universerve or relevances the meaning are links

We are lagging more and more behind in turning the climate change to our advantage. AI will be a powerful instrument to create effecient halt in CO2. We must use its ability for rapid development of new technology.
In human history everyone who has been hampering technologic development has lost this fight, be religion, church, ideology like in the Soviet system.
