I was very lucky to spend time with Billy back at the height of his success. He probably wouldn't remember, but I went to high school with his lead guitarists/musical director David Brown's younger brother. I got to go back stage and to the hotel at fifteen and party with the band. I went on the run to buy beer for Billy's thirty fifth birthday party in Boston. He was an inspiration for me in becoming a life long professional musician. He also dispelled the notion I had that famous people were somehow above the average person. Billy was and is an average guy. He never bought into the fact that he was famous. Just a good person.
Billy is talking about Music.....he left music.....and then he has come back to Music....did he wait too long .....because....things have changed so much....did Billy wait too long to put out a song that everyone will identify with....or will he be forgotten. And now, he knows that everyone still remembers him. Great song!!!
I saw Billy on the Howard Stern show before I requested this, and Billy was hesitant to really say what the song was about. And what he told Howard was that it was a little bit of both. It was about a relationship with another person, but it was also a relationship between him and his fans. I think it's both.
I’m sitting here crying because this is that time of life for me and my husband of 51 years. The song is beautiful and the words so meaningful. He’s been rock steady all these years of entertaining us. My kids were teenagers and they asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I wanted a Billy Joel’s Greatest Hits. I just about have worn them out over the years!! This song has me thinking about how I want to make things better again. Thanks so much for this wonderful video today. 🎶 Cyd
You know that a musician is a stand-out when they can put out three volumes of greatest hits like Billy has, and you have 40 of his own written song over the three versions and not a poor song among them.
he is talking/singing to us. you, me and others who perhaps do not know of his lyrics. it's as if he is asking us, "here's a new song....... should I make an album???? my vote is YES! please give us more!!!!!!!!!!!
I hadn’t heard this song! So awesome! I have always loved all of Billy Joel’s career! I love the 80’s stuff, but also love the early piano music which this is reminiscent of and so beautiful. The video is definitely so great, showing him through his career!!❤❤❤ And he can still perform as well as always!! Thank you guys!!❤❤❤
It's beautiful. A very well shot video and the lyrics are signature Billy Joel. Deep, touching and introspective. Great reaction you two. Very nice request Dani!
The way I take this song as a lifelong fan. He’s talking about his writing like when he turned the page the final last words from the river dreams album., And then another cut on the album was these are the last words I have to say, he was basically fried as a writer and there was nothing coming to him. If you listen to the lyrics like you read out so wonderfully it’s the writers block. He had nothing more to give. It’s a beautiful song. It’s one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard in my life
Not only was the video masterfully done, as you pointed out, but so was your review. I've watched the video probably 50 times (to learn to play the song) and still, I teared up as I watched and listened to your reactions to it.
Yeah. This song is not about a relationship with a single person, it’s about his relationship with fans and the music itself. He may realize that he was silly to just stop writing back in ‘93 just because his songs weren’t selling by the millions anymore. His fans like me who grew up listening to him and revering his music kinda felt he abandoned us. I feel millions of us would have continued buying and listening to his stuff even if it didn’t make radio rotations. Another of my faves is Todd Rundgren, who has never stopped putting out new material, and touring. Some his albums were a bit meh, but Instill bought them, and they still had a lot of great songs!
4:28 they did a younger Leia for “Rogue One” but for “Rise of Skywalker” they used unused footage from “Force Awakens” to put Leia in it and her daughter (who was also in the movie) was her body double. They did this music video with AI. There’s a behind the scenes video of the song. It’s funny to listen to him talking about it and checking out clothes he would’ve worn back in the day.

So glad your reaction is on TH-cam now. Yes, Uptown Girl was Christie Brinkley as far as I know. Ninja knows things :) He is the king of melancholy, I swear. His was probably the best show I've ever been to. It's really something to see him. Plus he surrounds himself with amazing musicians, as well, because he can! So that helps. Thank you for reacting to the great Billy Joel. You guys are awesome.
You folks didn't get get eaten by that 🐺 wolf did ya. I hope not. Jeremy is to young to go in this life without a psr guitar 🎸💜. And Jillian is a very kind lady. Love ya. Stay in the studio 🎙️. Not the forest. Want to see ya both on u tube. Not inside . Oh . That show wht debra norvill. Lv frm Michigan USA. .😊
I believe the song has a double meaning.. On the one side, it's a relationship with a single person.. And on the other side it's turning the lights back on to a new musical future.. And hoping to be accepted by a younger newer Audience🤔 Either way it's an incredible song.. I grew up in the same area as Billy on Long Island.. Which thankfully made his music very popular in that area 🤗🎶🎙🎹🎶
Technically, the last time he released new material was 17 years ago. The song was his apology and his lamenting over his 30 year stagnation of his career when he lost his passion for song writing.

I'm 59 and have loved Billy Joel since I was 13. This song, this video, makes me tear up every time. Thank you for the music, Billy.

The body of young Billy was actually the guy that got him to do this song.
They're taking Billy thru his years. Quite touching. Have always adored Mr. Joel.
The one who came out with this idea for the video.. complete genious
Completely agree to both comments!!

Such a great comment. Thanks for opening up to us, Cyd. We are honored!

Legend. Nothing more, nothing less. Greatest of all time IMHO.

I listen to it as soon as it dropped- I'm about his age and it means so much

I swear I didn’t see this in my subscribe until just now. Adding a comment so others don’t miss this. Great song. Sounds classic. 💜💜💜 Billy Joel.

It's a love letter to his fans.
He didn't. Let's go Billy!
The song is about his relationship with his music not a person.
According to Billy’s interview with Howard Stern, it’s both.
If you pay attention, his voice changes throughout the video also.

Having trouble understanding why no comments
He's talking to his fans.
Listen first then comment
Thanks for the feedback.

They used brand new deepfake technology. For these scenes a double was playing at the piano, then Billy's face was deepfaked on. Incredible.
Really, really amazing quality!!!
Warning. Few shows in Canada.
The resounding answer to the last line of this song from his fans.....NO!
"What a sweet video", really...?! ^^;
Thanks for giving us a shot.
Jeremy. Their are no German leppecons. 😮
😂
AI
OF COURSE IT'S AI... DUH
We were hoping for a few layers deeper. Thanks for watching!
