First and foremost, we typically don't absorb nutrients in supplements the same way we absorb them when they’re found in whole foods. When we eat real food, we’re not consuming single nutrients, but rather a range of vitamins, trace minerals, enzymes, and proteins that work synergistically in our bodies. How well you absorb a given supplement depends on its quality, your personal diet, gut health, and more, so it’s nearly impossible to put a number on how much of any given supplement is used and how much is flushed out as waste. This topic raises another key concern with supplements: lack of research and regulation. Although the FDA technically “regulates” dietary supplements, no clinical research, approval, or notification is required for a company to start selling a supplement. Unless a brand provides third party reports, consumers have no guarantee that the supplement they’re using actually contains what it says. Similarly, consumers have to trust that their supplements aren’t contaminated with toxins, heavy metals, or filler materials. While foods may have varying levels of nutrients, eating a variety of whole, plant-based foods ensures you’re getting plenty of nutrients with little risk of “overdosing” on any one vitamin. While many people overestimate the positive impact a supplement will have, it’s also imperative to mention the danger of underestimating the power of a supplement’s active ingredients. Just because something is “natural,” does not mean it’s safe for everyone. For example, Vitamin E and gingko can both thin the blood, and St. John's Wort (a common herbal supplement) makes medications for HIV/AIDS, heart disease, depression, organ transplants, and birth control less effective, which can have serious results. The Benefits of Eating Whole Foods The word “supplement” itself describes how we should think of them - supplementary to a healthy, whole food diet. A supplement may help fill nutritional gaps, especially for those with medical conditions and dietary restrictions. However, getting the majority of our nutritional intake from real food comes with many benefits. 1. Optimal Nutrient Absorption As mentioned above, nearly all foods have more than one vitamin, mineral, or enzyme. “Food synergy” is the concept that a food’s overall effect on our body is greater than or different from the isolated actions of the individual vitamins, proteins, fats, etc. that make up the food. Real, whole foods contain a wide variety of nutrients we need, often paired with other compounds that help our bodies use them efficiently.
You never cease to AMAZE me with the depth and breadth of your content . Hallelujah that you share this knowledge with the wider world as quite frankly your “run of the mill” local doctor is on “pharma frequency “ and no where near connecting the dots of diet and disease. Some doctors don’t even know what functional medicine is and treat this understanding as if it was Mumbo-jumbo. That’s the feedback I got last week when I asked to be tested for leaky gut. I was evidently knocking on the wrong door.

Thank you so much for the information on gluten and eye diseases. I was diagnosed with Occular Hypertension in my eyes (borderline glaucoma). The Opthalmologist wanted to perform surgery to reduce the pressure. Could this be gluten induced and which condition would it fall under considering the descriptions of the various eye conditions you gave? When I don’t eat gluten it seems to reduce the pressure/pain in my eyes and also reduces the migraines and stiffness in my neck. Is there any link between ocular hypertension and gluten consumption please?

Yeah, okay. 😂 I started working on hormone issues 2 years ago, and Insulin Resistance last fall. Fully expect next May they will actually be better yet. Now I just need to get my son working on his health as well.
Why is that very probable connection avoided, not discussed ???? Did we have all these food intolerance before ? NO. Last 50 years. Why? And importantly, why is it only the grains themselves blamed, not going further? Many countries BAN what's allowed in US food process and product. People need to get aware! And be vocal, and help ourselves fix this.

Yes, and the temporary reaction could eventually induce chronic inflammation. You might benefit from implementing various methods of detoxification; as well as supplementing with BVits and Milk Thistle to support the liver; and especially from boosting Vit C intake, since it's a natural antihistamine.
@@lindamacfarlane6817 Vit C works in unison with, and therefore spares Glutathione. For women a fair dosage during recovery is 70mg Vit C/kg bodyweight p.d. (for men it's 90mg/kg), with the dosage divided through the day. (However not too late, since it energizes one, and can interfere with sleep.) Sodium Ascorbate is said to be a good choice, especially since Sodium assists in Vit C absorption and helps to keep it functional within the body. Interesting to note how - in turn - Vit C assists in absorption of Iron.

It kind of funny coming across this video today I’ve seen some of your other videos about celiac and rice wheats etc because I ate some rice based macaroni and cheese yesterday and today I could hardly see very blurry rubbing my eyes all day I could hardly read my phone and I have 20/20 vision normally. My son is 6 and has been getting headaches like me and his teacher mentions he shows signs of poor vision sometimes we went to an eye doctor and tested at 20/20 no need for glasses which my wife was upset but I prepared her because I dealt with the same issues my whole life occasionally I just can’t see correctly and tried to prepare her for the truth that he’s like me and could be from diet issues and that’s what the optometrist said that her son deals with occasional blurry vision from low blood sugars later in the day at school. I had mentioned they most likely will find he’s got 20/20 and it’s most likely from his diet. He shows signs of early fibromyalgia he gets restless legs and tells me his legs feel weird and has to move them around which he’s more then likely wheat and grain intolerant. This video is invaluable to me because it helps me to educate my family on the unfortunate likelihood we will all suffer from eating grass foods. I had a doctor onetime tell me he thinks I deal with Reiters syndrome I’ve kind of forgot about it that was 15 20 years ago I’ll have to revisit that, thank you.

I was shocked because I had not done or talked about sex in over a month. After she said that I can remember she changed. The sweet nice loving wife, was gone. I waited for years for her to return, I was thinking that she was in pre-menopause. Or something like that, but he Doctor said her blood test was normal. so, 2 more years, she was extremely irritated, constipated, negative heavy menstrual cycles, argumentative, and I started catching her lying. Last year my eyes stayed the same. This year my eyes got better. The eye doctor said it is just a random chance that the eyes change in a way that they get better. Lol. Yeah, okay. 😂 I started working on hormone issues 2 years ago, and Insulin Resistance last fall. Fully expect next May they will actually be better yet. Now I just need to get my son working on his health as well.
In non-celiac gluten sensitivity, is it the gluten or the glyphosate (Roundup weed killer) sprayed all over our grains?
Why is that very probable connection avoided, not discussed ???? Did we have all these food intolerance before ? NO. Last 50 years. Why?
And importantly, why is it only the grains themselves blamed, not going further? Many countries BAN what's allowed in US food process and product. People need to get aware! And be vocal, and help ourselves fix this.
Not in Europe
@@matchamag4279 I hope you're right. We've found out government hides many things. Those corporations give government a lot of $$$.
Sick o ning
I react even to organic flour
Are supplements necessary for eye health or will proper diet suffice?
Start with diet. Add supplements if necessary.
Whats the better omega 3 to take?
This is great information about cataract/eyes/vitamins. Glutamine I have been taking so maybe that's helping as well.
Just scrolled into this info. Love it!
Great video! I have been diagnosed with and deal with Crohn's Disease, Vasovagal Syncope, Glaucoma, Cataracts, and Vertigo. I do my best to follow a gluten free, dairy free and sugar free diet. The Vasovagal Syncope is my biggest issue right now and I am miserable! What do you recommend I do to get some relief!?!

Think carnivore diet worth looking into
@@kkpaineYes, but add fat and some veggies
My daughter took arnica before and post oral surgery. It makes a big difference.
🔴🔴🔴Do you detox from gluten or does it just gradually get better if you could taking gluten
Takes a minimum of 2 mos. Of no gluten to rid your body of its effects, Do not confuse this with it only taking a few days to get it out of your body/ digestive system. Glutens effects in your body can last 2 to 4 months
Can a Ketogenic diet/ Carnivore diet reverse Macular degeneration disease or stop the progression of the disease.
For me it worked
Amazing content! Thank you so much for all the information!
What about people who have glaucoma. Any recommendations?
Cannabis plant extract (coconut oil based) is a cure for glaucoma.
How to treat macular degeneration?
Can a Lymphocyte Proliferation Test be ordered online? Would an OATS test be decent for checking vitamin levels?
I lost all vision my right, and 35 % in my left dontonholes in my macular (retina ) at 38 39 yrs old on started with a loss of center vision, they asked if I was a diabetic I always said no than started saying I don't know.
How I wish I'd known about this in 2018 and 2019.
But, thank you maybe I'll save my left eye with this info now that I know I knew I had reactions to wheat barley and oats when I drank a beer or wine chips salsa pasta would make me inflamed and hard to breath, and run to the bathroom .
Dry eye.
Thankyou for all the info much appreciated.
Doc. I watch all the videos I can. Thanks you for this info.
You haven’t addressed IODINE relating to eye health. Most of us are very deficient in iodine and iodide..!!
And alongside Iodine, Selenium, which activates T4 into T3 in the liver.
Can proteolytic enzyme‘s breakdown floaters in the eyes ?
…absolutely not
Some suggest it could. In this feed someone for example suggested Bromelain (a protease found in pineapples). Would think that avoiding Soy (a protease inhibitor) could maybe also help.
I have open angle glaucoma. What is recommended? How far are we away from a cure?
I’ve been having eye strain and pain in my eyes for a year and a half my eyes are irritated every day my eyes almost feel like they are crossing but they don’t cross it’s just the sensation feels like that. they have ran tons of test and can’t figure out anything. I’ve dealt with this for a year and a half it’s almost unbearable at this point. My dad is gluten intolerant. I just scheduled an appointment for a gluten allergy test. Do you have any suggestions on what this might be?
Try organic pure non gmo castor oil sold in glass bottle, apply nightly 1 drop in one of your eyes, after 2 weeks then add to the other eye if it helped. This moisturizes your eye. MAKE SURE U BUY ORGANIC PURE IN GLASS BOTTLE MEANT FOR THE EYE, & stop looking at screens due to blue light being an irritant
Hi. Do you found a solution please?
I have lots and lots of floaters and have been GF and I’m still getting them. I feel like I’m walking thru a storm of nats/small flys. It’s very disconcerting because there are so many now. The first time ever getting them was in my 30’s after taking Ibuprofen. It’s encouraging to hear that some people have gotten rid of them. I however am losing hope for improvement.
Have you tried pineapple? They say it can help clear floaters away.
I have them for 4 years now. Nothing can be done, every doctor says you just have to live with them.
@@Laila-bb1fe I also had them but have cleared them away by eating pineapple. There are videos that could help you here on TH-cam.
@@LyndaLand Thank you for your message. How much pineapples I need to eat?
now I understand why when I have a flare, my vision is blur
Please can you explain why my uveitis ceased giving me trouble when I was diagnosed coeliac and put on a glutton free diet .
I also wanted to mention that apparently it is helping to clear cataracts in the eyes, the sulphur eye drops.
Did it work for you
Amandha Vollmer ('Healing with DMSO') reports good results. She advises preparing a saline solution with distilled water and natural sea salt - using (according to tolerance) 20-40% DMSO; stored in a glass bottle, and using a glass dropper; 1 drop into each eye - up to 3 times daily.
@@maricamaas2326
I have the DMSO eye drops, 95% seawater and 3 % DMSO? A German eye doctor suggested that.

Are allergies considered inflamation? I have allergy to ragweed and my eyes itch so bad when ragweed pollen is heavy. Does that mean my eyes are inflamed?
Yes, and the temporary reaction could eventually induce chronic inflammation. You might benefit from implementing various methods of detoxification; as well as supplementing with BVits and Milk Thistle to support the liver; and especially from boosting Vit C intake, since it's a natural antihistamine.
Thank you! I'll try vit C. I'm a carnivore so I think I get plenty of B vitamins.
@@lindamacfarlane6817
Vit C works in unison with, and therefore spares Glutathione.
How do you know if you are gluten sensitive
Great video, great information.
What’s a good educational path to become a functional medicine doctor?
look at the prerequisites. You have to have schooling in some form of healthcare prior to entry.
Naturopathy degree. They teach you MD and ND modalities. Requires a bachelor's degree in any field but there are post Bachelorette programs that can take a full year if you have basic math but no bio chemistry. Then it's 4 years after that. If you have a science bachelor's already, it will take less time.
Hi, Barbara from Laval, Quebec, Canada
If I have issues with night blindness but my vitamin A levels are high (it has been tested because I get blisters on the roof of my mouth), could the issue be protein and if so would a collagen supplement help?
Relisten to this video as I recall him mentioning something that helps drive the A vitamin to the correct place in the body.
My tiny cataracts that I developed from getting steroid drops virtually disappeared after going on keto for a year

Think the restless legs can be magnesium deficiency?
@@alli65b58 is it possible to have a life long magnesium deficiency? I’ve had fibromyalgia pretty much my whole life I’ve always been allergic to wheat just didn’t realize until couple years ago finally found the strength to change my diet last year I feel tremendously better but the fibromyalgia remains chronically fatigued as well. I may be chronically deficiency wheat allergy took a serious toll on me. My gut health is still poor
(Painful) Restless Legs can be the result of electrolyte imbalances/deficiencies (including Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium & Potassium) and/or low Vit D&K2 levels.
Possible causes: Taking in too much water and other liquids, without replenishing electrolytes; not getting enough sun exposure and/or using sunblock; being on a low fat diet, which could reduce cholesterol under the skin.

My x wife she loves bread at 40s old she developed hypothyroidism and went on levothyroxine.
At 42, she jumped from 25-to 175 of levothyroxine.
She wake up one morning and I was in the kitchen already washing dishes.
She said to me , I don’t want to have sex with you or any man.
She was a total different woman, one I simply could not talk to her without her getting angry, over any even very simple things.
In a nutshell, I believe she changed to a narcissistic psychopath.
She became a nightmare to deal with, and she has ruined our family and friends.
Because, of her diseased, I lost my wonderful wife.
